Corsair Grand Touring Battery Charging / Draining Issues

Just had to have our Aviator battery replaced after three years and 24K miles. Never went into deep sleep mode or displayed any messages, but electrical features gradually stopped working one at a time. The progression was: vehicle would not wake up on approach, vehicle did not always recognize the fob (necessitating alternating between both fobs), intelligent touch on door handles stopped working, the illuminated keyless entry touch pad on the b-pillar wouldn't allow locking/unlocking and eventually stopped lighting up, the Homelink on the visor only worked when right up against the garage door. The puzzling thing was that the Auto-Stop-Start continued to work even though it represented the heaviest draw on the battery. Prior to calling the dealer, I put battery on a trickle charger overnight and all features worked again; but only for the next day and then back to almost nothing again.

After relating all the above information and dealing with two service advisors (good cop/ bad cop) and the service manager, a replacement battery was finally authorized and installed. As suspected, EVERYTHING returned to 'normal" operation again . Something as common as a failing AGM battery on these overly-complex vehicles is a known issue, yet it is like pulling teeth to get satisfaction. It is my wife's car so I let her vent on them. We're hoping to get a followup survey from Lincoln--not to complain about the dealership, but Lincoln's warranty policies...assuming anyone actually reads them.

Hi Going_Going_Gone. With the information you provided, the issue here was not Lincoln's warranty policy, it was with the Dealership/Service Advisor/Service Manager.

Assuming a vehicle is still within the 4 year/50,000 mile New Vehicle Warranty the warranty coverage is simple: According to warranty procedure, all the Service Department needed to do was load test the battery. If it fails, it is automatically replaced under warranty. Keep in mind the Dealership may also want to perform some other diagnostics to be sure it is only a battery issue, but those procedures are also covered under warranty.

While a bit of detail may be missing as to exactly what happened and when (i.e. Were the conversations initially only over the phone? Or was your vehicle in their possession and they refusing to check the battery...etc. etc? All the Dealership needed to do was load test the battery. Also, we need to keep in mind that a proper load test takes several hours to complete, and they can not replace the battery under warranty without load test results.

So again, the warranty policies are simple and straightforward. Load test the battery and replace it if it fails. Therefore, at least with the information provided so far, the issues you had seem to have been with the Service Department, not Lincoln warranty policies.

Keep us updated and good luck.

I can tell you from experience when Lincoln’s start doing weird stuff and the sync version is a know good version it’s always a sign battery is going. My sons MKC liftgate would close then open nothing blocking it. Sometimes door handles would open cars when locked other times it wouldn’t. Sometimes you could lock the car with handles other times you couldn’t. Forget what else was going weird but battery fixed all of it so…..

Now that the weather has been warm, 40F vs 0F, the 'Remote Features Disabled' message has not come on at all. My driving habits have not changed at all.

With all of our threads on the battery drain notices, have any of you had your auto start/stop occur during the Winter? Mine hasn't enacted since the warm weather. Same thing happened last yeaar.

Only a few times for me.

Techs seem to be so resistant to doing a correct load test on batteries.
It does take time and the tech could be doing something else (that pays) while the battery is charging,

Only when it’s not extremely cold and when I’m up to operational temp (coolant gauge isn’t reading cold).

no matter how you charge your plug in hybrid, you should get a 100% charge as long as you keep it plugged in until it reaches full charge which they say is 32 miles on electric.Don't understand why charging in a home warm garage doesn't give you that 32 miles in the winter as it does in the summer

The 32 EV miles is an estimate just like your gas range of 250 miles. EV batteries don't function as well in colder temperatures and the range will decrease the instant you take your vehicle out of the garage and into the cold. Preconditioning the battery will somewhat extend the range but you won't get anywhere near 32 miles in the winter.

According to the manual, while the GT is plugged in, it will also charge the 12v battery as needed. I may have seen that noted one time on the Lincoln Way app. One time, out of town for 2 weeks, I left it unplugged for fire safety reasons. It did go into deep sleep mode.

Another time, after another out of town trip, I came back and plugged in. It charged for a couple of hours but added nothing to the EV battery which was already at 100% from before the trip. I suspect this was just a 12v battery charge.

If you keep it plugged in most of the time, you shouldn't have to drive the ICE just to charge the 12v battery.

Tesla's new 48v architecture eliminates the 12v battery and miles of wiring.

2022 Corsair plug in hybrid. I have one question.
Can the OEM charger (110v) stay plugged in when not charging?

Yes, when we have it plugged into the 220v, we leave them (2 of them) plugged in all the time. Using the 110v adapter should make a difference from that perspective.

I have mine plugged in all the time too (110v). But every once in a which the unit does something weird and a red light appears where the blue one is shining. I just unplug it for a minute or two and plug it back in. Seems to reset itself fine. It's only happened maybe twice in the last year.

But when we go away on vacation I unplug it. No reason other than not needed while we are away.

Yes, leave it plugged in - it will keep the 12V battery charged.

I'm not convinced it charges the 12v battery. Our '22 GT is going in for service this Thursday because the vehicle kept going into battery save mode and we leave it plugged in all the time.

Any Battery Tender is a move in the right direction.

Last time I checked, there were three battery Manufactures.. Exide, Johnson Controls and I forgot the other.

Buying a battery made from used batteries is typical (that's why you are charged for the old core).. no, I don't recall who uses new unused lead but, you pay thru the nose for them (the high priced spread). There are acres of used batteries stockpiled.

You can recharge a tired (old) battery BTW (if you have the time). pc

My 2022 Corsair GT battery used to charge up to about 54+ kwh when charging at home on 110 volt wall plug. For the past 2 weeks it will only charge up to about 44 kwh's and the system reads that the battery if fully charged and the system does an auto shutdown. I have the vehicle booked at the dealer to have this checked out.
Has anyone else had this kind of issue ???

The Corsair only has a 14.4kWh battery. I am not sure where you were seeing the 54 and 44 kWh charge but this is simply not possible.

He probably meant km not kwh. Our 22 GT typically shows in the 50+ km range on a charge (as high as 58 and 59) but coincidentally only charged to 47 km last night. Not like our 23 GT that typically only charges to low 30s.
