2024 Nautilus software and battery issues

A couple weeks ago I deleted “Phone as a Key” to eliminate any controllable battery usages. I did it in Total Accessory mode (not starting vehicle), all screens immediately went totally blank for 10-15 seconds (oh crap) then one by one came back up. I let settle in for a couple minutes and turned it off, exited and locked the car. About a half hour later, I tried to access the car but the door switches wouldn’t recognize the Key Fob (had to use the fob unlock button). I entered car and did a BMS (Battery Management System) reset…headlights turned to off, car on Total Accessory mode (no foot on brake), wait a minute or so and within 10 seconds…flash high- beams 5 times and step on brakes 3 times (foot off between steps). Within a few seconds, the Battery Light on the dash should flash 3 times (wait for it), if it doesn’t…repeat. I turned the car off and locked the doors. I came back in about an hour, and the door switches still did not recognize the Key Fobs…bummer. Car sat overnight (about 8 hours) and to my surprise, the door switches recognized the Key Fobs in the morning per normal. She’s temperamental!!!
Phone as a key wreaks havoc on my system. If I use phone as a key it reboots every time I start the vehicle. And there’s always a bunch of glitches, on top of it saying “key not detected “ for minutes. This is obviously problematic in Texas summers where you’re desperately seeking AC. I now always carry my fob but leave phone as a key set up in case I forget it or need to run to the car real quick. Less issues now.
 
There is no auto start/ stop on the hybrids. The 12v system is charged using a battery management system powered by the high voltage system. the high voltage system is provided power from the smaller electric motor in the eCVT as you suspected. So basically it charges the high voltage system and the high voltage system charges the low voltage system.
Thanks for confirming my understanding. Terminology like "crank the engine" does not apply to hybrids The jump is to just boot the computer.

My vehicle has gone into deep sleep 2 times but other than a rather long computer boot to get everything up (wireless seems to take the longest) and having to reselect my profile (defaults to guest). The vehicle can report READY quickly when the computer is still loading all the software.

Has anyone had the HV battery fully discharge?
 
I a I've also had problems with the software. Since the new battery was installed, the Android Auto app is not working. Settings will not appear, and I have to unlock my phone with each trip. The weather information also blanks out on the dash with each trip. The service department or Lincoln Roadside Assistance were no help. I think the the service staff knows there's major problems with the 2024 Nautilus but have been instructed not to acknowledge this to customers. I sent an email to my salesman who's on vacation until August 11. I have been a satisfied Ford/Lincoln customer for over 40 years, but no more. I'm thinking this vehicle is a lemon.

If you have to unlock your android phone to use, there is a setting in phone android auto settings that needs to changed. There was another setting (start music) that I also disabled,

I have phone as a key setup EXCEPT for the bluetooth nearby devices setting. Lincoln also removed the windows up/down feature from My Lincoln app. I wonder if this had something to do with some issues. The phone is still associated with my profile.

Wow, I don’t think I knew about the BSM reset procedure. I read the whole manual and either forgot that part, or it just didn’t stick in my brain.

You are right about these cars being temperamental. It’s like the major issues seem common, but the roadmap to how it got to the problem is different for everybody.

I don’t believe the BMS reset is in the manual. I heard about it here and confirmed it with a tech and respected YouTubers. I’ve also heard that if you leave the vehicle totally undisturbed for 8 hours, it automatically resets, but didn’t confirm that one. Additionally, a BMS reset is required after a battery replacement so the system knows the battery is a new one. I don’t know how a reset treats a battery that is in Deep Sleep, low charged, or going bad. But it has fixed some electronic gremlins for me.
 
Well, there were 3 attempts to fix it in a two month period and they could not figure out how or what to do. So per Florida lemon laws they offered to buy back the car and as a 30 Lincoln owner I am taking my chances on a second 2024 Nautilus and hoping that everything turns out OK 🤞
I am curious if you got the second nautilus and if it’s working ok. I have this exact problem and have just applied for lemon law.

Hi Starfish. Yes, leaving the vehicle locked and completely untouched for 8+ hours also accomplishes a BMS reset. That information has been in the Owners Manuals for some time now. Possibly it was accidentally omitted from the new manual? I can't confirm that either way.
The other BMS reset procedure (press brakes, turn on/off lights etc.) is not and has not been outlined in the Owners Manual.

In addition: "locked and completely untouched" means locked, do not approach the vehicle with a fob on your person (it wakes-up the vehicle), do not use the LincolnWay App (it can also wake-up the vehicle), etc. etc.

I have checked my vehicle on Lincoln Way app and status update date does not often change to latest time. In my last test in sitting all week, it never updated until I closed the hood. I was checking app more than once a day all during this period. I think it depends if you have PAAK enabled.

I believe the nearby setting is required in order to use features like windows up/down or liftgate open/close. The vehicle won't permit those commands unless it knows you're nearby the vehicle. Otherwise, it could cause a hazard.

The setting were in the app until gently and only became active when the fill PAAK was enabled. Do you see them?

Not sure I followed… I don't recall ever seeing a windows up/down feature in the Lincoln Way app (although I know the keyfob supports that). That doesn't mean it wasn't there, but I would never use it so I never noticed.

I thought it's appearance might depend on other settings. But I know the liftgate open/close is grayed out unless I am 'nearby'. I presumed the open/close would be also for the same reasons. You wouldn't want to command either if you weren't in range to see it.

My phone had the windows controls but disappeared (May/June). I never used them as fob is more convenient.
 
I was appalled at this when I first moved to Texas, but every home, every building, every car is buttoned up tight with the windows up and the A/C on. In Michigan, neither my house or car even had A/C. It took a long while for me to adjust to air conditioned air down here.

The only time the vehicle window is ever down is when we're in the drive-thru. A window control button? What button?

Isn't it great, no freezing weather, no driving in the slush, no shoveling snow, vehicle stays clean for long periods of time. 😁
 
My 6-month gas engine 24 Nautilus with 3,900 miles finally caught the dreaded dead battery disease. Even though I had had no problems in 6 months and had driven it the days before, two hours after getting home on Monday the phone app informed the car had gone into deep sleep mode. The next morning the car would not start, not even turn over. I had to use the mechanical key to unlock the driver's door as the electronic touch door handles didn't work. I hooked up a brand new fully charged NOCO Boost GB40. Apparently, that's not strong enough to jump start the Nautilus' 80-amp battery. Couldn't even illuminate the instrumentation.
I used the app to have the concierge send roadside assistance. A flat-bed car retriever showed up in about 15 minutes. The tech used a large portable high output jump starter. The tech said he spends half his day jump starting all makes and brands of new cars with the same problem. I drove to the nearest Black Label dealer. They checked my VIN and found the car needed software updates. They had the car for about 4 hours and fully charged the battery. They performed the infotainment update 24B09B as well as the vehicle dynamics control module VDM software update 24P14B. They also road tested and assessed that I needed new rear shocks even though I had not noticed any noise back there.
My initial impressions after the updates are that the fixed HVAC icons at the bottom of the touch screen are now brighter; you can now display the Waze map in the touch screen and retain the default Google map in the upper screen, but once Waze is used for navigation, the Google map is replaced with turn-by-turn info on the upper screen. And finally, the steering wheel audio controls forward/back capacitive touch buttons now work as they always have no matter what is displayed in the touch screen. No more returning to the start of a soundtrack rather than your previous favorite, at least with SiriusXM.
I am now fearful of leaving my car at an airport parking lot for a week or more. I have left previous cars at airports for over two weeks, and they always started up.
I have now ordered a Schumacher Electric SC1281 Fully Automatic Battery Charger and Jump Starter. It's shameful that one has to do this. I regret almost every day not purchasing one of the last 2023 Lincoln Nautilus Black Labels with the 2.7L twin-turbo V6. Having owned 7 versions of that generation of the MKX/Nautilus since the first one in 2006, I never had a single problem with any of them, the quality was superb, and it had been refined to perfection.

Been lucky so far at the airport. Two different occasions left Nautilus parked 5 days, Hybrid so it has the little lawn tractor battery. Left a jump pack in back floor just in case. Started up both times. Have a 8 day trip coming up so a new adventure. 😉

As with my experience, it’s nice to know the Lincoln Roadside Assistance program actually works. After my call, we had a tech show up in under an hour. The bonus was it happened to be a good friend. He also told me he spends all day jumping these new cars that have all these electronics. He said the worst thing is these car manufacturers not using better batteries, or if a better battery has even been developed to keep up with today’s electronic demands.

At some point we need to stop at the dealer to check if our Nautilus has all the updates it needs. I tried to check via the Lincoln app and it’s useless. It just tells me that it can’t retrieve the information after entering the VIN.
 
I just experienced a computer malfunction on my brand new 2024 Nautilus! The display and many other functions such as indicator lights, Air condition, Cruise Control and etc. were disabled. On the big display, only the park brake LED was on and on small LCD, only lincoln sign was flashing. It was still possible to drive the vehicle, but many functions and features were disabled.
I had to reset the battery to reboot the system. It is recovered now but some features are still disabled. As an example the map is no longer loaded automatically to big screen, unless you search for a location. The cruise control set function does not always shown. Auto brake function is also disabled!
Is there someone who experienced similar issue?
Yes!!! Just the start of the problems we’ve has with the 2024 hybrid we purchased in April. The software was glitchy from day one. Breaks squeak and once locked up. Finally after less than 2 months, the screen locked up - we could not access radio, a/c, navigation etc. we parked it and hoped it would “reset”. The next am is was completely dead. The dealer picked it up, replaced battery, addressed 4 of 5 recalls including replacement of fuel injectors and said they could not reproduce the break issue. On the drive home the breaks continued to grind at all speeds. A few weeks later I could not get the hatch to close only to find the car completely dead yet again. Two weeks later it is still at thr dealer. We purchased a 75k lemon! We are trying for a buyback but getting much resistance from corporate office. We are so frustrated. We do not trust this car. Not reliable !!

The rear shocks were part of CSP 24P07, which was about a knocking or rattling coming from the rear. Some vehicles had no issues, some were fixed by torquing the shocks down, some needed replacements.
