I just called my trusted mechanic this morning, and asked his wife to get me a quote to do this miserable job on my 2006 Designer. I told her no hurry. I won't actually need this garage queen again till July. Just got back from a Memorial weekend trip, without A/C flow from the front panels. I've already ordered Motorcraft YH1753, YH1754 and YH1755 actuators from Rock Auto for about $20 each.
Trying to get up the courage to go at it myself. If my mechanic's quote is low enough, $400 or so, he can have the job. But, the more I read "Sparky's Answers", the better I feel about doing it myself. If I do it, I'll have to make some kind of donation!
Looking for a little encouragement to give it a shot. I love this car. So much so, that I bought a 2006 Signature Limited for a daily driver. I always mention how cheap and easy they are to repair, but I gotta admit this issue is a little daunting. Maybe it's time to get this under my belt. I'm going to own these cars as long as possible, and it's bound to happen again.
BTW, off topic, but I was a little surprised I didn't see any other Town Cars on this last trip. 3-1/2 hours coming and going, and hundreds and hundreds of cars in Hocking Hills where we stayed. It was PACKED there! Don't really care who else sees the value in these cars. I've got mine, and that's all that matters to me, but it was surprising.
Edit 05/29/19: Well, it's 1:30PM and the Steering Column and Dash are on the floor in my garage. Video taped as much as possible, but my phone ran out of memory at some point. Uploading to my PC as I type. No narration. I'll add captions later. Biggest struggle was with the steering column cover! Also, some of the electrical clips were a pain to release. I'll add links to video if it's worthwhile, and I can edit something together. Just waiting for my DSL actuators delivery now...
