Rear middle console

Thanks for the pics folks. This is the same console I have in my vehicle. I was expecting something totally different. I guess I now need to find out what the other option looks like!

If you're talking about the mini, here is the one in my 2020 Aviator.

Just this past weekend I realized I was supposed to have the full rear console in my 2022 GT. Realized this when watching a review on you tube and the rear console was mentioned. So I checked my build out from November, 2021 and I definitely selected the full rear console. What happened from there I can't remember. It's not on the summary the dealer printed out and I never noticed, so the car came in with the mini console. Either I forgot to tell the salesman I wanted it or he forgot to add it in, but I'm thinking it was the former. Looking at my build out, the cost of this option was $0. Maybe when I told the salesman what options wanted I naturally looked at all the ones I had to pay money for, ignoring the items costing $0 thinking they were all included. Anyway, disappointed the error was made since I really don't use the third row and don't need to pass over the console area. The full rear console just goes so much better with the Aviator's great interior while the mini adds nothing to the interior's appeal. Too bad the mini wasn't optional and the full one standard.
Any experts out there who may know if the mini can be removed easily and if a full rear console can be ordered and installed easily also?
According to my dealer, no, you cannot order the console and put it in. Our dealer missed the full console on our order, only caught when the car came in. They've reordered the car and now we wait again. It's frustrating.

As others mentioned, the full console is awesome. I would have totally opted for it but need access to the third row. It becomes very hard to get into the third row with the full console.

Our precise mentality as to why we didn't get it.

We'll only use the back seat with Grandkids. Normally we'll have two adult passengers in the middle row.

I didn't necessarily want to be seeing footprints God knows where in the places that they would try and climb to get back there !

I have a 2020 Reserve 1 with the small cupholder console. Does anyone know the part number of the full size console? Would like to retrofit it if possible.

Thanks!

As mentioned in a couple posts here, you cannot order the larger 2nd-row console after the fact. It contains some electronics for the moonroof shade so it isn't just a 'dummy' console.
I think it's time to update your profile which shows a '78 Mercury Marquis.

Thanks, still looking for part number though.

Still got the 78 Merc

If the item isn't available for aftermarket purchase, I doubt it would have a part number.
It isn't shown on the Ford parts sites I checked.

Hey Moondog66, I too would like to retrofit my Aviator with the full console. Here's where I'm at with this. Let me first say that I went back to my dealer to tell them it was left off the order, hoping they would order the parts for me at a discount. I got no concession out of them. Not surprising. I also called the concierge to see if maybe they had a connection to parts that the general public does not have. Initially they told me they would get one for me but I should try the dealer more more time. So I called my sales manager and got no response. No surprise again. Went back to the concierge and the rep further looked into it. Their last response was that since nothing is in disrepair on the vehicle, they will not get the console and the original rep who said they would get it, misspoke.
If you go to fordparts.com and enter your vehicle info, then search full rear middle console it comes up on the results amid a handful of other results so you can scroll through to find it. You will see that the unit consists of many parts costing a good buck. The parts guy at my dealer didn't even want to price it out for me because there are so many parts to it and this may be the case at a lot of dealerships. We're probably looking at a couple of grand for all the parts.
I work for an agency that employs some very good mechanics who do a lot of electrical work on police cars (Ford Explorers). They tell me that cars are wired up for all options, whether the option is in the car or not. So the wiring should be there for this thing and they said they would check the wiring diagram for me and let me know the location of the plug should I get the console. Still, if this was not the case and you really wanted the console, would non functioning sunshade buttons be a deal breaker? The mini should come out easy as I lifted the cup holder right out. A plastic base is bolted to the floor which would have to be taken out because the base for the full is a little different.
So the only obstacle here as I see it is cost and possibly not getting a parts guy to order it. Follow up with me please.

If anyone reading this has a full rear console and would rather have the mini I would be interested in a swap.

Thanks for the information, I will check the website. Non functioning sunshade not an issue for me. I've also checked at some local salvage yards but no luck there yet. If base mounts where the mini is I may be able to make it work. If you find out about wiring though please share!

Just my 2 cents but if you order from the Fordparts website, you are paying too much. Those prices are usually what the dealer charges you.
You will find the same parts at a lower cost from these sites;
Good luck.

Peter - remember sometimes things get damaged or malfunction. Every part in the car likely has a part number because if the dealer has to replace it that's how they (the dealer) orders the replacement.

OK - to get rid of the mystery, I contacted one of my friends who's perhaps the most senior parts guy at one of our local Ford dealerships (they have multiple sites). The question I posed him was:

"Mr. Ford parts guy – can you find the part number for a 2022 Lincoln Aviator Reserve 1 trim middle row full height center console? Not the mini console (standard one that come on all trims that allow the captain’s chairs in the middle row), but the optional one that you can spec once you get to Reserve 1 trim level and above?"

He got back with me. There is not one, but as he approximated - about 10 different parts to 'the console'. You can't order 'one part' - you'd have to ascertain which parts you need (including wiring if different) - then order each part. Furthermore, to enable all functionality, likely some programming is needed. With a clever resource and a Forscan programmer you may be able to crack that nut and enable any additional features you are missing (e.g. the sunroof shade change position commands).

It becomes a bit of a science project. The best bet would be find a VIN for a car like yours but that contains the full sized console. Your parts person would then research all ~10 parts that are on the target vehicle that has the full sized console and compare that list to those on your car (i.e. your VIN). At that point in time you compare part numbers and order those that are different.

Per him (verbally) It will not be inexpensive project at this juncture. I asked for no more particulars.

That is pretty well what I expected. Owners of the Explorer had also looked for a complete console without any luck. The only way to get one was to order all the parts and assemble them yourself. The other option was to look for a used one from an existing vehicle that the owner wanted to modify or from an auto wrecker's yard.

Bit late to the party, but completely understand the frustration. I ordered my ‘23 Aviator the end of October, with the full console as part of my online build.

Early December I contacted my dealer (I think I saw something here or on FB) and tried to confirm with my dealer. Sure enough, the “full console” did not carryover from my online build. They were able to update the order and my window sticker came through today and it was one of the first things I checked And I have it. It’s a shame it’s SO expensive (if not impossible) to add, given that it is a “no charge” upgrade.

This is unfortunately one of those unfortunate situations where there is no easy solution. If it were me and the center console mattered a bunch - I'd force them to re-order and perhaps try and negotiate some free future service or something for the dealer's mistake and our having to wait another 8-12 weeks (or whatever it is) to get it right.
