Rear middle console

You're welcome! I'm going to sell the mini console and mounting bracket base.

Do you know if the mini console would cover whatever is underneath the large console? I haven’t seen anyone go from a large to step over yet.

When I installed the full console, the mounting bracket was taller than the mini console base. That required some trimming of the carpet to fit the bracket base. The bracket holes are the same, but I think if you removed the full console, there might be a hole in the carpet that would normally be covered by the large one.

Also curious, I wonder if something from an Explorer would work.

The 2nd row floor console was deleted on the 2022 Explorer.

Peter
So 2020 and 2021 could have them? got to be some in junkyards by now.
Off to car-part to look.

I'll tell you how to remove it and you can decide if how hard it would be for you. It has side trays on each side that clip onto the console. They just pull straight out and you can access the bolts, 2 per side. Remove the bolts and the console lifts off the base enough to unplug the harness. Once removed, the plastic base and the harness will be exposed. It opens up the middle to access 3rd row, but passengers would be stepping over the base and wire harness.
We have a 2023 Navigator w/ a full rear console. We’d love to remove it since we have a 3rd kid on the way, and having captains chairs w/ no console would make it much easier to access the 3rd row.

A couple of questions:

1) Would a Lincoln Dealer remove the console?

2) Would there be an east way to cover the plastic base/harness with a mat or something that would make it safe/elegant/functional?

3) would any functionality of the vehicle be impacted if you remove the console?

Thanks!

1 - yes, (for a fee)
2 - probably
3 - I'd bet that nothing would happen (other than possibly a hidden code that it was missing) but you can test it by unplugging it.
Also do a search, I know in the last couple months since I got mine (spring) that there are a couple threads about swapping from larger to smaller floor console, and the other way. Seems VERY simple to remove IIRC.

Welcome to the Forum. 👋
As to having the dealer remove the console. I would call and check with them first. From being on both this and the Explorer forum for a long time I have found that dealers as a whole are very reluctant to make modifications to vehicles. I'm not familiar with the Navigator console but if it is like the rest, you would open power circuits remaining so it is best to check to see if they have fuses that can be removed.

Peter

I swapped out my mini console for the larger one in my Aviator. The large one included ambient lighting, charger ports and a sunshade switch. The harness for that was under driver seat and covered with a protective plug cap. The open circuit was dormant until I plugged in the large console. I wouldn't think unplugging it would cause any issues other than not being functional, but good idea to check with dealer tech.

Sorry, ignore my reply, you mentioned Navigator, I assume you were Aviator (this is the Aviator Thread).

Most dealers will not remove a console from any car. Too much liability in it with the way lawyers are nowadays. The owner can do it fairly easily. There will be wiring harness’ and a hole in carpet left over. Yes this can easily be covered with a same colored floor mat.
You will lose some features but I do not believe it will affect reliability or function of vehicle overall.

I agree. There should be a trim panel on each side that covers the mounting bolts. Those typically have slide clips, once bolts are removed, it should lift off the bracket exposing the harness plug. If removing the mounting bracket, there is a bolt on each corner under the carpet. Removing the seat might be required to squeeze a hand and wrench in there (I had to do this on my Aviator console removal). It's pretty straightforward. Like 7.62Kolectr said, there will be a hole left in carpet.

Update on the console retrofit. Finally had time to work on it. Sourced a complete console from eBay, I had to order the mounting bracket from local dealer along with side trays. I was told the wire harness "should be there, but some aren't"...mine didn't so I ordered that too. Total parts ordered are:
Mounting bracket - LC5Z-7804-5B34-A (direct bolt in where the cupholder bracket or bench seat is located)
2 side trays - LC5Z-78045N28-AK and AD (left and right)
Mounting bolts (4) - W711158-S439
Wire Harness - N1MZ-14A699-B
Installation is fairly straightforward, unbolt seats and tilt forward (no need to unplug or remove). Unbolt front bolts on cupholder bracket, rear bolts accessible under carpet. Have to do it by feel, but no issue. Swap brackets, new mounting surface is slightly longer so carpet had to be trimmed a couple inches to fit. Plug for wire harness is located under carpet in front of 2nd row left seat. Plug cable in and feed under carpet to center bracket and plug into console. Bolt console down and side trays snap right in. Reinstall seats and bingo. Total time was less than 3 hours. I suck at taking progress photos but I attached one of cupholder bracket and finished job.
Thanks for the excellent information. For those that can't find a used one, I am attaching the entire list of parts you will need to make the conversion from partial to FULL console. One issue I am having is the semi-exposure of the mounting bracket showing from the carpet cut-out. It seems the side trays do not fully cover the carpet like the mini-console does on my 2022 Aviator. Below is the entire list of parts I purchased to make this all work.

Some parts have to be color matched to your trim. I added a column stating whether color-matching is required or not.

Wow, you don't realize how many parts are involved until you see an itemized list. I got lucky and found the complete console on ebay with the exception of the side trays, wiring harness and mounting bracket. I trimmed carpet under rear of console to use on front corners, you can barely tell it unless you're looking for it. Good luck on completing the install, it will look great when it's finished.

Ford Parts is the most expensive place to buy parts. I'm sure the total would be quite a bit less from Levittown Ford. Genuine Ford Parts Dealer Online | Levittown Ford Parts

Agreed Peter. Buying directly from FORDPARTS.com vs Levittown Ford or another dealer would have cost at least another $600-$800 more. The ONLY benefit I see with sourcing the correct part numbers from FORDPARTS.com vs someone else is this example I will provide.

This part number (JL7Z13D730BA) is to the FULL rear console ShadeSwitch - for the 2020-2024 Lincoln Aviator

FORDPARTS.com Fitment says: This part fits your 2022 Lincoln Aviator
  • Lincoln Navigator 2018 - 2024
  • Lincoln Aviator 2020 - 2024
Levittownfordparts.com Fitment says: This part does not fit your 2022 Lincoln Aviator
  • Lincoln Navigator 2018 - 2023
I have no idea why one source is different that the other.

Thanks

I'm not sure either, but Tasca also states it does not fit a 2022 Aviator Reserve.
I guess if the FordParts one doesn't fit you could always return it. Good luck.

Peter
