Phone As A Key PAAK Woes

I don't have a Dealer Order Guide.

My window sticker says:
Up Top:
2022 RWD RESERVE

Below the solid line midway down:
INCLUDED ON THIS VEHICLE
EQUIPMENT GROUP 200A

Hi inmanlanier. According to Black Label’s information, the Reserve 201A is the Reserve model trim level first equipped with PAAK.

If you have a Reserve 200A, it would seem your vehicle is a trim level below that, and unfortunately is not equipped with PAAK. 😱

Good luck. 🍻

I'm getting the drift that it comes standard in Reserve I - a notch above Reserve.

thanks

We have a 2023 BL Naut. My wife fell in love with Phone as a key...She could not believe how great it was when the salesman set it up for her on her iPhone! She is iPhone addicted, needless to say. She bugged me how I had to get an iPhone for myself to enjoy the great features!
Well, here we are 14 months later. The novelty wore off rather quickly, and she has not used her phone as a key this entire year.
This morning was cold...I suggested she use her phone to start the vehicle. She said why bother, and pulled out the key fob to start up instead!

I thought parking assist was going to be the feature that propelled me into the 21st Century! Wow! watching the vids before taking delivery...could not wait to make that a part of my routine!
I used it once!
To sum it all up:

I've not worried about the feature in the past because even though I didn't have or try to enable PAAK, I do have the ability to remotely lock, unlock, start and a couple of other features in the Lincoln App.

Out of curiosity - how did she start the car with the key fob? I don't believe mine has that option.

Press the fob "lock" button1x
Then quickly press the 2x button below it 2x (if it has the 2x icon on it). It will be the button that says 2x with a circle around it.

There is another 2x button below that one that is for the tailgate open.

Hi inmanlanier. I believe your vehicle has the remote start feature via the key fob.

Can you post a photo of the buttons on your fob?
Or find one on the Internet and post a link to it?

Good luck.

Hi inmanlanier. Oooops, meant to type “vehicle”, so I went back and corrected it.

Virtually all current Lincolns use the same fob layout, and include the remote start feature.

That’s why I asked for a photo of yours or a similar one.

And thanks to Steve_C for making the job easier.

Good luck. 🍻

Thanks. For the benefit of others, I thought I'd ask since I have a very similar issue. My PAAK stopped working out of the blue on my 2020 Aviator a couple months ago and I'm pretty motivated to get it fixed. When I get in the vehicle, the app on my Pixel 7 switches back and forth between connected and disconnected, and it won't start without the fob. I called the concierge and they walked me through the whole removal of the app and reset of PAAK, etc. Now the app fails to complete setup every time I try it, but ironically I get a notification in the app saying PAAK is enabled for my phone during setup before it fails. I think there's something wrong with the low energy Bluetooth antenna/module for PAAK preventing my phone from actually communicating via low energy Bluetooth with that module. I'm not sure if that's also called the RFA module, but I did find two SSMs (49968 and 50845) that I shared with the dealer when scheduling my appointment, so I'll circle back with whatever they find. For completeness, my remote start and door locks work great through the app and Bluetooth phone connection, Android Auto, and music all works great, so its just the PAAK connection that refuses to connect.
Well, I shared the SSMs with the dealer and one of them solved the problem. The RFA module had some trouble codes in it, so they cleared them, flashed the module with the latest firmware and the codes didn't come back. My phone setup went smoothly once I tried it as did my wife's phone. It works great now and the dealer didn't even charge me for the fix! I'm guessing this was likely due to the case number created by Lincoln concierge, but not sure on that.

The biggest issue nowadays with digital systems is what I characterize as a fragility of design. You have firmware that is not robust enough to stay properly functional all the time. If it throws a code, then interfacing hardware may no longer work right, or it's own hardware may shut down. Troubleshooting can be tedious and/or hit or miss. In the old EEC IV days (my '84 Turbo Mustang) - to find a fault you had to pull out their huge step by step guide to figure things out. That was in the days of a limited number of sensors, and limited software/firmware. With the dozens of processors today (approaching a couple of hundred?), canbus, software galore (I wonder in toto how many lines of code) - any single little glitch can throw a code - and the outcome is what grizzwaldt experienced... a non-functional system that no one understands or can diagnose. They reset it all, and voila its working again. WAD. Thank goodness for these forums where successes can be shared.

Yes, that is correct. But the bottom line still is that if for some reason the phone or app isn't working, you're not going any where unless you have the fob.

Not true , when setting paak you must set a code in radio to start without phone or key . Had my phone not work and used code several times to start vehicle.

Are backup pass-codes stored in the phone or elsewhere? If in the phone then that won't help.
You mentioned that the phone will act the same as the keyfob. My phone will lock/unlock the doors and start the engine but only if I use the actual buttons on the Lincoln Way app. Approaching the locked vehicle with the phone on me does nothing.

Peter
Really because mine works same as key, lights come on as you approach, door unlocks when you squeeze the handle. Note that phone should be unlocked as approaching

It works by blutooth, make sure you don't have battery saver on phone on

Have you set up PAAK? If not, then the phone will do nothing. If you have, and it does nothing, your RFA module needs to be re-flashed.

I don't know what you mean by storing codes. Are you asking how the vehicle knows the codes? You set them up in the vehicle and it stores them that way. If you are asking how I know what my codes are, yes, I have them written down in my iOS Notes. I would only need the code(s) if my PAAK is not being detected by the vehicle. In the last 3-4 weeks since my RFA module was re-flashed, that has never happened. Happened all the time prior to that and also in my 2020 I used to own.
The back up password is entered into the radio touch screen and has nothing to do with the phone

I made the password something I wouldn't forget, you can use letters and numbers

OK...I am new to all this. When you say "door code", are you referring to to the keypad on the door pillar? What would be the purpose of "backup" passcode(s)?
Backup password starts the car. Press breaks in vehicle and hold, screen to enter password comes up on radio screen then use you pre programmed password to start the car
