MY2023 Aviator Order Timeline Tracking thread

Picked up the aviator from the detail shop this afternoon. Had my graphene gloss coating (interior + exterior) installed. It's good for 1-2 years as per the detailer. Had it tinted as well last week. (30% driver/passenger, 15% back/hatch, 70% clear windshield). Looking good now.
I am going on a 4 hour trip next week. As per the user manual, there is a 300 miles break in period, I have put in 200 miles so far in the city/highway. So by the time I hit the highway for the long trip, it should be more than 300 miles.

Quick question? What kind of gas you guys put in? The manual states regular is ok, but premium is recommended.
Also how much gas mileage you guys get on regular/premium gas? So far I see 15.6mpg on city and 16.0 on highway which is poor. I really hope it improves moving forward. I am not sure what the dealer filled in. Hoping it's premium.
Regular 87 octane for this guy. My way of breaking in new vehicles is, as little idling as possible and as much highway driving as possible, changing the speed often. Most definitely not using cruse control for a while.

Hi,

On my third year with my current Reserve and I have used 87 octane exclusively with no issues. I tow trailers often over hilly roads with no issues. I get a combined 20.4 mpg, about 19 city 22 highway. I've liked it so much I ordered another one. Good luck.

Talked to a service advisor from Ford dealership. According to him there is not necessarily a break in period for these new vehicles lately. And he suggested me to reset the gas mileage calculator. And that did the trick. Hit the highway again this evening, kept between 68-72mph. Got 24.2 mpg with AC turned off and 22.6mpg AC on. Can’t wait for the road trip next week. 😁😁

Hi nitynity. There is a break-in period, as previously described by several of us.
In a half joking manner, I would point out that if a Service Advisor had said to me that there is "not necessarily" a break-in period, I would not exactly have great confidence in how sure he/she was about that answer.

It is not a rigorous break-in period. For the first 500-1,000 miles, drive easy, do not tow, do not drive at the same speed for long periods of time.
As a good rule, if taking long highway trips in the first 1,000 miles, vary speed by at least 10 mph every 10 minutes or so. Especially try to avoid over-revving and/or lugging the engine.

And again, contrary to what some believe, there is no special "break-in oil" used in our Lincoln vehicles. But that has been the case for many years.

Good luck. 🍻

The user manual states there is a 300 miles break in period. The sales guy and today the service guy said there is no breakin period for the newer models. I was mainly concerned with the low gas mileage consumption vs break in. Now since that’s out of the way, i’m not worried about it anymore.

But I don’t plan on going all crazy on the highway anyways. Lol. I normally don’t use cruise control either. And will keep switching the speed limit as everyone suggested.
Thanks again for the tips! 👍

Hi nitynity. Just for information sake...I want to point out that the 2021/2022/2023 Owners Manuals state there is a 300 mile break-in for the tires.

From the 2023 Aviator Owners Manual:
"BREAKING-IN
You need to break in new tires for
approximately 300 mi (480 km). During this
time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual

driving characteristics."

However
, as I stated in an earlier reply: Up until very recently, the Owners Manual for Lincoln vehicles stated the following about new vehicle break-in (copied and pasted from the 2020 Aviator Owners Manual, my 2018 MKZ Owners Manual etc.):
"BREAKING-IN
You need to break in new tires for
approximately 300 mi (480 km). During this
time, your vehicle may exhibit some unusual
driving characteristics.
Avoid driving too fast during the first 1,000 mi
(1,600 km). Vary your speed frequently and
change up through the gears early. Do not

labor the engine.
Do not tow during the first 1,000 mi
(1,600 km)."

Our engines are not manufactured any differently than in 2020. So my thoughts are...Was the 1,000 mile break-in/vary speed/don't tow/don't over-rev/don't lug warning accidentally left out of the 2021/2022/2023 Owners Manuals, or have our engines magically become break-in free? In my opinion, common sense would dictate still following that 1,000 mile break-in recommendation.

As you said, you don't plan on going crazy on the highways, and will keep switching speeds etc., so that is good. But following that 1,000 mile break-in period would still be a wise move for our expensive vehicles. It isn't that restrictive and can only help.

Good luck.

Regardless of what service advisors may say, ( i've dealt with many over the years and i can tell ya, most couldnt even piss straight yet) Engines have a break in period, even on my Kubota and Ferris riding mowers. New tires and brakes also have brake in times.

There is also this from your Owner's Manual;
"CALCULATING FUEL ECONOMY
Your vehicle calculates fuel economy figures through the trip computer average fuel function. See Information Displays.
The first 1000 mi (1,600 km) of driving is the break-in period of the vehicle. Resetting average fuel in your trip computer after 2000–3000 mi (3,200–4,800 km) provides a more accurate measurement."

No emails recently. I ordered a BLGT in July. Two weeks ago I given a VIN with expected date of production late November.
I’m hoping to at least be on the way by December.

I haven't received that email.

Mine was given an initial production Sept 26 but as time got closer i kept getting emails every week that it got delayed another week. Then today I received this one:

Thank you for choosing Lincoln. We wanted to update you on the status of your Lincoln Aviatororder. While production of your vehicle was projected to begin the week of September 26, 2022, supply‑chain challenges continue to cause delays and uncertainty.
We apologize for any inconvenience and are working diligently to reduce the delays to get you on the road in your new vehicle.
We know you’re excited for your new Lincoln, so we will keep you updated as more information becomes available, at least once every 45 days. Once your vehicle is built, you’ll be the first to know. In the meantime, we appreciate your patience and understanding.

Update regarding order tracking

We are effectively in the same boat (timeline), not terribly hopeful for delivery before 2023 :(

And things may get worse. Just listened to news that rail unions rejected latest contract. Negotiations are on hold till mid-November and a strike is possible. Even if built, if the rail workers strike it may be next year before special orders come in.

Meanwhile, my BL GT ordered June 4th has had the build date moved back again for the 4th time. I started looking for 2022s near me after I got an upclose look at the Red Diamond Tricoat I ordered. It's disappointing 😞. Looks like days old dried blood...almost black-purpleish.

Found a BL GT 250 miles from me and bought it. Didn't have the hitch but otherwise everything else plus Lincoln Play. Got $2K off MSRP, and a good trade in on my GMC 1T Denali Duramax.

Don't have to wait and hope my pre-order arrives in time to qualify for the tax credit, cause in '23 it breaks the $80K ceiling.

Absolutely love it! First 950 miles I'm averaging 44.5 mpg combined. Filled the gas tank today for the first time since driving it home.

Hope you all get what you want. It's a great vehicle.

The bouncing ball continues, production date Nov 21, then the 14th now back to the 21st :(

What is the quickest anyone on this forum has seen an order get built?

Are there certain trims/options that are causing orders to take longer than others to get built? If so, which models/options are most problematic?

Update: Just got the 5th date change...now week of December 5th. There must be a parts issue. No worries, someone else can wait.

Is there anyway for us to see vehicles at other dealerships? Like vehicles we are looking for exactly? I can only search within a 250 mile radius. I wanna search all over the us!

How are you able to search a 250 mile radius? Lincoln’s website only lets me search a 20-100 mile radius.
