I am Lincoln MKT Expert! Please ask your questions of me...I will include an FAQ!

I have a 2016 MKT, and recently noticed the heated steering wheel, only heats towards the sides and bottom, not the top( the 10 and 2 position) and not very warm at all. What is your opinion on this.
2010 Lincoln MKT Eco AWD Loaded with 90,000 miles. Driveshaft vibration at 75 to 85 MPH - believe it's the rear driveshaft and want to replace it and believe it's a 3 piece - Dorman says a 2 piece is not as troublesome as my 3 piece. Will this car accept the 2 piece with no trouble ?
Will appreciate any answers.

I have 2014 MKT Ecoboost, AWD 3.5L which displays "Driver's Door Ajar" when I am driving even though door is shut. Will not lock. Interior lights eventually go off but difficult to see at night, especially in a parking lot because of interior lights being on. It's very annoying, every time I stop it chimes to warn me. Can my husband fix this? how? I know if I go to the dealership it will be very expensive and I've already put several thousand dollars into this car in the last year. I do believe this one is a lemon as we've had so many issues with it. Looking for advise.

FAQ
Clunks, thumps, and noises up front

#1. First check the swaybar endlinks. Turn your wheel all the way to the right or left depending on the side you are inspecting. Look under where the strut is and there is a long rod-like item. This is the sway bar endlink and the most common front suspension item which simply snaps in half every 30,000 miles or so. Fortunately, this is not a hard or expensive part to replace. When it snaps then it will clunk against the inner fender area. The front end will also dive and sway as its now disconnected from the front sway bar.

#2. Second, the front lower control arm bushing gives out every 120,000 miles give or take. This will cause a noise. No one to include the dealership will be able to figure this out. If you experience this kind of noise and have no idea where its coming from around 120,000 miles up front its probably those lower control arms. This is a more expensive repair. Look underneath the vehicle and the two lower control arms look like forks right around the area where the swaybar is. If you have trouble finding it just google for pictures. When you look underneath the vehicle the lower control arm should jump out at you.

#3. Sway-bar bushings- You go over a bump and hear that squeal. Easy! Sway bar bushings and about every 50,000 miles this happens.

Whirring and whining sound upon acceleration
Most of the time this is one of those gear boxes associated with the all wheel drive system. There is the infamous PTU or power transfer unit and the rear differential. The fluid in both should be changed every 30,000 miles. The PTU is more infamous for going bad, but the rear differential takes a bit longer and usually above 100,000 miles. Both should be babied.

Left front door drivers arm-rest disintegrating
Luckily Ford has an armrest available. The best place to find these is at one of these Ford discount parts websites or Ebay. The most expensive place to find it is the local dealership. An interior place can get this done, but the local dealership...after they research it a bit...can get this done.

Catalytic Converters
These go at 80,000 miles give or take. They are considered a wear-away item. Ford became concerned this only lasted 80,000 miles and put an extended warranty on the MKT converters. Not sure if any of those warranties are still valid today. You will have to consult your local dealer.

Shocks/struts
If your MKT came with non-electronic shocks/struts then those will start to go around 40,000 miles. For the rear shocks there is a carpeted area on the quarter trim panel. Do not remove the quarter trim panel but peel the carpeted item away slowly and unsnap it. That is the access panel to the bolt of the rear shocks. When taking to a mechanic go ahead and peel that off because he will try to take out the quarter trim panel and damage the panel.

The Oil Change UnderShield
You will have to remove that pesky undershield when changing the oil. Eventually you will most certainly have to replace the hardware bolts/brackets which attach the shield to the underbody and may have to replace the entire shield itself especially over 100,000 miles. This comes with the territory of such a shield which is removed every time the oil is changed. So, yes, this will eventually be replaced or rebuilt with new bolts/brackets.

Monroe Quick Struts...not known to be the greatest for the MKT. Many report issues.

Unfortunately you will have to get Motorcraft off of RockAuto

Tires
Best of the best tires are Continental CrossContact LX25

Transmission
The transmission is a reliable unit, but must be flushed every 30000 miles at the dealership for it to be reliable. The filter is not serviceable unless you want to remove the entire transmission AND split open the case to get it.

Water in the door
From time to time water gets into the door shells. There are plastic plugs on the bottom of the door. Simply remove them to drain it out...but dont put the plugs back in. The water got in there for a reason and if you put them back in the water will just get in there again.

So let me know your MKT questions. Operators are standing by!

I have a 2014 MKT rear differential is going
Can I disconnect it and just have front wheel drive?

Sorry I havent been back this thread in a long time but my MKT was sold. The answer to your question is its possible but it would be less expensive to put in a new PTU. They did make a front wheel drive MKT so it can be done, but as you can see in the video its a lot of trouble to do.

In this video this man trys to convert it to front wheel drive...

Then in this video he ends up putting in a new ptu...I guess he gave up.

Why not go on the Copart website and see how much they will give you for the.MKT then use that for a downpayment on a new Ford Maverick front wheel drive hybrid. CoPart is a salvage car operation btw.

My MKT got into an accident and had 10000 in damage on the side. A 2019 with 135000 miles and Carfax shows it as a livery vehicle. Copart gave me $8500 for it.

The Maverick is a pickup truck but its under $30000, affordable and you can get a hybrid good for 38 mpg. Get front wheel drive this time.

I have a 2015 MKT…you can change the ambient lighting colors for the floorboards and cup holders in the settings on the touchscreen…the touchscreen works properly on every screen…on the radio…the climate control…everything… except the screen that you change the lighting color on…it won’t select a different color…it has worked just fine until now…any help would be greatly appreciated

Thanks,
Traycee

I have a 2010 MKT that I bought used a few months ago. I ve been having an issue with the powering steering. It has happened twice now that I am driving and the center console will say " service power steering now" then the power steering is just gone. I was in heavy traffic and almost had an accident. The mechanic I took it to was able to get it going again the first time by disconnecting the battery for a few minutes but that hasn't helped this time and I really don't have the money to explore what might be wrong with this car. Any ideas?

Happened to me with a Cadillac SRX. It was a steering position sensor, if I remember correctly. Dealer replaced under warranty. Picked up and found stiff steering. AHole mechanic forgot to plug it in.
In the Caddy's case, i think it was in the steering column; your mileage may vary.

Let me know please, thanks

Thanks for the reply. I already checked Rockauto. Anything they might have had as to bushings is for the front (out of stock). I've also checked O'Reilly and Autozone -- neither have anything listed. I don't want the full assembly (available on Rockauto) as I already have the replacement links. Question -- unlike the front sway bar, is the bushing bracket on the rear bar welded to the bar, necessitating the replacement of the bar itself in order to also replace the bushings?
There was a recall on those rear bushings several years back. I have a 2014 MKT that the dealer replaced those bushings at no charge. The dealership has to inspect them to verify if they need replacement at no charge. I was far out of warranty in terms of mileage driven at that point.

Have tail lights but when I press brakes I lose passenger side tail light and no brake light illuminates.
Is it a fuse or a bulb? Any info on how to change bulb?

Any info or tricks on how to not spend $400 on replacing my driver side headlight? None of it comes on, and looms like a pain to replace at home.

Likely neither.
Assuming the bulbs have both turn/brake and tail light functions.
If that is the case one side has lost a ground and the power is back feeding to the other side to find a ground. And sometimes that will (partially) light up the other half of the bulb.

None of that has anything to do with the head lights,

Sorry I wasn't exactly clear. It was 2 different questions. Have headlight out which I'm pretty sure is bulb.
And also im having back light issue- have tail lights on both sides but when I press brakes the whole passenger side light goes out, no tail light or brake light.
Any info on changing the brake light bulbs? Is it all one bulb or different bulbs?
Or any info on fuse or relay location, because I do agree it seems like something other than just bulb going out is likely.

Typically there is a ground for each side. Sorry I do not have a wiring diagram and have never owned a Town Car
Any info on changing the brake light bulbs? Is it all one bulb or different bulbs?
Changing the light bulb will either come from inside the trunk. (Typically of this period) Or the lens comes off from the outside.

As to the bulb, list the bulb number. Hint, that data IS in the owners manual

Or any info on fuse or relay location, because I do agree it seems like something other than just bulb going out is likely.
Fuse and relay locations will be in the owners manual.
Many times it is called a power distribution box or a battery junction box or a central junction box.
The vehicle may have two. One in the engine compartment and the other inside the passengers compartment
