Cabin air filter change DIY…WTH!

Here you go Steve. 9 pictures so I converted them all to small jpegs so I hope I can put them all on one posting.

First the Lincoln instructions on page 162 are incomplete/incorrect ( ya I know shocking) for my glovebox. The diagram does NOT show the glide attachment on the side. So I figured it out amazingly without snapping the plastic glide and wrecking it 🤪

The glide fits into the hole on the side and once you depress the dog ears to let the door open, the glide is holding it from flopping in your lap.

Get your fingers behind the circular portion and push it up and it will move to the bigger opening and you just pop the glide out.

The last thing you’ll do putting it back together is reconnect the glide. It will be more obvious how the big hole and small hole connected work when you’ve had it apart to look at.

Magnetic phillips head screw driver is a must when putting the two screw back.

Snap design on the left side of cover is depressed inward to release and that will make sense looking at the picture.

1 glovebox

2 these dog ears are on both sides and must be pushed in at the same time. The door will drop a little more.

3 is the glide arm that can come all they way out if you don’t disconnect it from the side when you’re a goober figuring it out the first time 🤪

4 is the big hole/small hole the glide snaps into.

5 is the door lying in your lap and the massive space to work in 👍🏻 You can see the air box cover.

6 is the cover off and the clip for the left side.

7 are the screw hole on the right

8 is the glide are where it stays when your not a goober and pop it off the big hole/small hole properly.

9 is the dirty OEM filter at 20k and much thicker that the aftermarket I bought. Definitely like the OEM better and recommend it over that Microgard I bought.

Very doable…have at it.

What is the expected (real world) replacement period for the cabin filter? I realize if one lives in a dusty area it would need to be replaced more often.
 
I tried mine and wound up breaking the clove compartment. Fortunately they fixed it under warranty. It was that glide bar I broke. Also the clip holding the air filter in sorta broke so I'm just going to let dealer do it. IF the difference is $50...well, I'm just gonna have to deal.

I replace mine when it gets full of acorns. Every car I've owned that's parked outside the garage has acorn shells covering the cabin filter.

I figure this is when the airflow is at it's most inhibited.

Seems like the squirrels in your yard have a family tradition going on with your cars!
Pretty smart squirrels to be figuring out the path to the cabin air filters in the various makes of vehicles you have parked outside the garage!

I live in the city, typically drive 12-15k km a year and will change my cabin air filter once a year during the summer to avoid working with more brittle plastic in the winter. Same with wiper blades.
 
On the 24 (does not apply to 25), the wipers are not cheap since you just cannot blade refills.
 
The replacement time really is more a function of miles not time. And I think it also depends a lot of your environment. I normally just replace the air filters on my vehicles every year even on the ones I don't drive much. It's part of my annual maintenance with wipers/air filters/jump battery charging.

I once had an issue with my Acura MDX (now replaced with the Nautilus). We could not get a bad smell out of the car. At all. Just couldn't get it out. We get a ton of rain here in Florida so carpets were often wet and my daughter had spilled milk (don't ask). I shampooed the entire car, used all sorts of scent products to supposedly address the issue. Nothing. Finally it occurred to me to change the cabin air filter (a Duh! moment). I switched to the filters with activated charcoal. Smell was gone after that. (also switched to rubber floormats on every car too).

Thereafter, I change my air filters with the activated charcoal in every vehicle every year. Often my air filters look like they're almost new. But since I can do it myself on most vehicles, it's just $20 +/-. But I think I could get 20-30K out of my air filters. (My cars are parked inside a garage).

Did they stop making the blade refills? At one point I thought we could get them. I was having this discussion on a FB group and one guy had a dealer invoice for $400 for wipers but it also said the blades were out of stock. Others reported that previously they had bought the blades.

Not for the 24 when I talked to parts dept.

He meant the rubber inserts are not available. You can only buy blades.

hey I can find the glide to move it out of the way. My door only drops an inch. I can't get my fingers in there to move the glide

thanks I see that now. I can't the 2024 door to drop all the way. There seems to be something on the left side stopping it

how did you open the glovebox, the slider is hidden at the left side

Not sure how to get the slider out without damage, so this as much as I can help.
 
Does anyone have access to the shop manual for the 2024 Nautilus? The glove box glide/slide on the left hand side needs to be released before the box will drop. Totally nuts that this is not obvious.

Hey, did anyone else, unfortunately, break off the slider bar to the glovebox? Tried changing my own air filter on my 24 Nautilus and sure enough the thing snapped right off. How was it going for warranty for something like that?
