ACTIVE GLIDE NOT WORKING

Dr. Mafzal, let me understand specifically what you are suggesting, since I am all for simplicity.

1. I've gone to Settings, and chosen System Updates
2. I've chosen a time for the update, 1am ET, every day of the week. Of course, I'm not in my car at that time - I'm in bed and the car is off.

Do I need to pick a time when I'm in the car and the car is running, with a strong wi-fi signal?

1 am is fine as long as the wi-fi signals are strong and it should update. Let me know.

I spoke to a Ford/Lincoln software update center. They informed that for updates to happen, the following pre-conditions are required. I will try this tonight.

1.Vehicle in park

2. Parking brake is set/on

3. Ignition is off

4. All doors are closed

5. Headlights are OFF, not Auto

6.Scheduled time for updates, don't use 12am

7.Wifi will go faster, but the car modem will still work

same as what I told you. Have to have good wifi signals other wise the update will not occur. A lot of lincoln dealerships are not even aware of how to update the software. I told you that I taught my local big dealership technicians how to update software since it is very new. My car was in the dealership for 10 days and they cannot figure out why AG is not working. I figured it out myself. The manager said that we had never had this complaint before and they called Ford and still AG did not work. My car was the first car they sold with AG and after the update went wrong AG stopped working and the dealership could not figure it out.

First I have ever read or heard about having to have the headlights OFF. What is the point of an AUTO setting if you have to turn them OFF every night in case your vehicle needs to be updated?

I have had 2 Sync 4 Lincoln Enhance updates installed without turning the lights to OFF.

That is correct. There is no need for the light to be off. Lights can be auto. In my experience, the car should be attached to strong wifi signals and time should be set up for updates and not drive the car while updating.
The car has to be within range of wifi signals. I had the car off. but the lights were auto. No parking brake is needed.

Tom, I go to the dealer January 9th. Will let you know.
Best of luck. If Ford is smart they will have the proper software revision out by the 9th, hope they get you take care of.

One thought, I still have my FDRS license active for another 21 days. If you want I can run your VIN and screen shot any updates that may or may not be there. Will give you an idea of exactly what the dealer will see when the plug into your OBDII port. Just let me know if you want me to do that. Just want to help get the AG back for you.

Hi Tom. Please check "5LMJJ3LT6NEL17342" and let me know what you find. Thanks.

1 am update time is fine when the car is off. Make sure that you attach your car modem to your wifi as you will do with any other device attaching to wifi. Then you should be good. This is what I have done and it was working till yesterday.

I followed all of the pre-requisite conditions (even parking brake ON and lights OFF) and set the update to 1am ET today. I made sure that the car could connect to house wifi and that signal was GOOD.

I looked this morning ~ 6am ET and no change to hands-free expiration date (still 10-12-2022).

You might be in luck. There is a GWM and APIM update out there for your Navigator. The APIM update mainly gives you full screen CarPlay. Fingers crossed that this works for you!!
Thanks. Fingers crossed. I called the dealer service yesterday and asked about their experience with TSB 22-2494, i.e., had they done it before or would I be the first. I'm the first.

In your opinion, is this process more like applying Windows updates, or even firmware updates - or more like changing Windows registry settings (which can screw up your PC if you do it wrong). In other words, should I find a deal who has done this before, or it's not really that hard?

Thanks.

Very similar to a Firmware update. It's plug and play, the only issue that we all face is how did Ford package the update. Active Glide and the Maps were packaged together in the past, this update they are split. If any of the conditions that FDRS checks for are not met it will install but won't work. It's very frustrating as Ford/Lincoln could easily fix this but they have not yet. Hopefully by the 9th you can report back with positive results. Best of luck!!

OK, Tom. You have been a saint in this endeavor and I appreciate it. I will let the group know.

FWIW, I asked the dealer "am I REALLY the only one to report this to you - because from what I see the problem is widespread." I was told, "yes, you are the first."

It's a little frustrating because in the dealers defense they have not given the techs the training needed to figure this stuff out. It can take hours or days to work thru this, no incentive for the techs to do it as they can't bill back for the time invested to Ford. There is a whole group of folks who have helped me and I'm just passing along what I know works.

One side note is that when they preform the TSB they likely will not install the APIM update, it's a big one that takes over an hour. They will just wait for that to push out via OTA, you never know when your vehicle is in que for the update. It just comes, or it does not. That is how I got into the habit of getting a month long FDRS license every 5 months or so and downloading all the updates that the OTA did not push out to my Lincoln and Ford.

Try driving. If AG working, you are good

After you have applied the updates, specifically, GWM, does ActiveGlide hands-free start working? I'm trying to understand what to expect after I leave the dealership and they say "yes, we applied the GWM update."

Thanks.

Yes, if the Gateway Module Update works and the maps update then Active Glide will work on all authorized highways. Its an awesome feature!

I'm at the dealer. The GWM update was applied. Is there anything I can look at / ask technician to look at to verify success?

By looking at Settings/General/About Sync, the hands-free maps expiration date has moved into April'23. I didn't take a picture so don't remember the exact date. It was December 10, 2022. I test drove the car, turned on AG and continued to get the hands ON the steering wheel blue icon. Never got hands FREE.

Ideas? I feel like there is progress, but not complete success.
