So i recently reserved a standard trim 2020 corsair from a third party dealer who's bought it from the ford/lincoln dealership directly (I've called and verified that the car is indeed brand new and purchased from them).
A few days ago i was there assessing the car. I pop open the hood and lo and behold the engine is without an appearance cover. The employees at the dealership claim they don't know how that is. I told them to open the hood of another 2020 standard corsair (which was already also sold) and i did infact see the cover there.
I did some digging around and saw some reviews on youtube. The 2021 corsairs (or at least some of the ones i saw reviews of) had no engine covers, yet aa of the 2020 reviews had them.
Any idea why this might be? I read on some forum somewhere that all corsairs produced after june 2020 came without the engine cover due to supply chain issues, but i wasn't able to verify that. If anyone has any idea/can point me to some official lincoln documentation as to why this may be, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Still waiting for these parts.
I'm told the order will take longer due to being a pecial order.

Engine cover installed. Very easy install. Just the 4 parts were needed. The cover is a nice piece and not just cheap plastic. It's insulated to block sound. Will check out if the engine is quieter tomorrow. Still looks great whether the cover kills some sound or not!
Thanks, guys!

Does anyone know if the Corsair GT 2.5 have a engine cover?

Sadly I was told no by concierge and dealer, but I still hold out hope. I looked for other brands with same engine (Escape, Kuga) but struck out so far. One site speculated it was to allow more cooling for sensitive electronics. It just looks unfinished..

I don't believe doing away with the cover is for allowing for more cooling. The '20 Corsair had the cover. Early '19 Rangers I believe had the cover and then didn't. Many guys on the Ranger5G forum bought the cover. Most auto manufacturers engines have a cover. It's a cutting cost issue, IMO.

Agreed.

You should see all the other changes from 20 to 21. That would further confirm your suspicion.

Yes, I have a "decontented" '21 Reserve. :(

BUT I installed a hidden engine cover. Why? NOBOBY but me and the mechanics ever see it.

If I had waited a couple of months I would not have bothered.

I traded my 20 in for a 21.

Positives
The 21 shifts smoother, and seems “tighter.”
Thicker firewall
Quieter

Negatives
Behind the front seats is now hard touch plastic (used to be soft touch)
The digital led thermostats for driver and passenger gone
No cargo net in back
No engine cover (I made them move my 20 cover over to the 21)

Nuetral
Different head rest

There are more differences.

What else did you discover that was different?

The trim on the reserve door used to be soft touch in the mid top. Now it’s hard touch.

I hear spare tire is an option. My 21 came with it. 20 it was standard.

Rear arm rest cup holders, in 20 they were a pull out style. The front door panel upper has a section that is hard plastic (in mine) in an area that was soft (leather/vinyl?) in '20. (just noticed that you mentioned this! Sorry) (Unless this was package specific) Mine is a Reserve. I don't have HUD, the 24 way seats or the upgraded headlights...

Only reserves got the soft touch part you mentioned on the front door. Standards didn’t.

From the videos of the rear pop out cup holders, I would rather have the type I have in my '21...top of arm rest vs pop out in front of arm rest...these look rather fragile.

Same. I’ve seen in the past the pop out types tend to break if used a lot.

Yep! $150 for the spare.

Do you have a pic showing the locations of the new replacement studs/ fasteners?
Please and thanks,

They do look more fragile, but they also look and feel more elegant. That said, I'm sure that this change was likely due to reducing cost of repairs. I'm really glad I bought a 2020 and didn't wait.
