Open Letter to Lincoln - How I'd Improve the Aviator

Although I don't keep things in the cargo area, I agree it would be a handy item to have.

Peter

Well my wife came out on the good end of the deal. Her 2023 Nautilus we got in May 2023 is now my work vehicle because it has a security cover and enough space for the most part. So the 2023 Aviator BL we got in March that I couldn’t wait to get is now safely my wife’s new vehicle. She loves it and I get to drive it on weekends 😁

Bring back the fog lights! The space looks horrible now.
I wasn't a huge fan of the update as it was. Now that i notice the lack of fog lights i can't unsee it.... ewwwwww

To be clear, had i been in the market to buy one i'd have noticed it. Certainly changes my opinion of replacing my aviator with another aviator when the time comes. Makes the top trim look no different than the bottom trim.

Offer more interior choices than those offered for 2025. Bring back a beige offering likd the Sandstone and how about a Cherry Red-light burgundy option. Maybe a navy blue/creme like the Genesis GV80.

Also re-design to make the 3rd row with slightly more legroom.

Don't change the sloping top design that makes the Aviator so good looking.
Bring back the Alpine interior. The white interior gets loads of compliments from my friends/family.

Resource the navigation system/maps to Garmin. The factory system is wrong too often. We sometimes pull out a portable Garmin as we don't trust "this girl".

Anything other than Google Maps, Waze or Apple Maps is never going to be really accurate. The car is out of date the second it rolls off the lot and never has good traffic data. The online services are updated daily for construction, detours, new roads etc. and have real time traffic.

I would like more leg room on second and third row bench seats also better operating to lay seats flat. Something similar to seating on 2013 Explorer. If you have five 6th grade students it is a tight fit.

Also the radio, could you bring back the AST. Would be very helpful on trips out of your home area.

I have a 2014 MKT. You are right on the legroom for the second row; that car has miles of it. However, the third row had very little legroom. I feel like the Aviator moved the third row up slightly to allow more cargo space when all rows are up, though due to the flat floor it's more like the same amount of space. This forced the second row to be moved up as well. Leaving adequate leg room for second row riders but not the extravagant living room worth of space the MKT had. Moving the second row up enough for third row riders comfort means everyone has very little leg room. It's really a 4 passenger car wearing a 6/7 passenger disguise.

I think for that one buys the Navigator (smiley)

We think of it as a 4 adult sized passenger car that you can fit younger grandkids in the back.

I could count on one hand the number of times I've used fog lights over the last 15 or so years and I live in a largely rural area.

Matrix lighting on my new ride is amazing, that is the future. driving at night is unreal with them and how they automatically shield oncoming cars and cars in front and actually put light in a way around the vehicle in front of you when there is no oncoming traffic.

and just what is your "new ride"?

1) Still on SYNC3, really???? Provide for an upgrade to SYNC4. I believe this to be the ONLY vehicle in the fleet still on SYNC3.
2) Wireless charger is useless inside the console, it needs to be moved.
3) Need wireless Android Auto
4) Need option to disable auto start/stop. At the very least make it easier than the multistep process in the touch interface.
5) It would seem a no brainer with all the cameras to provide a recordable front and rear camera. User inserted Micro SD would be preferred.
6) Did I mention it's ridiculous that this vehicle is still on SYNC3? Bought my wife a Nautilus, really liked it, went back and got myself an Aviator only to find out it was a generation behind. MY FAULT for not doing more diligence but who in their right mind would expect a step up in the product line to result in a step back. I asked my salesman why the Aviator had a smaller screen and he just shrugged.. Now I know.

I have a second GPS, a Garmin mounted to my left, mostly for accurate speed info, but have found that using it for finding motels, as well as directions is a much better option. This weekend, we were in Des Moines Iowa and set the Sync 3 to lead us to PF Chaings which has been located there for years. Not only was it late in telling us to turn several times, where we would have not been able to make the correct turn, we ended up across the street from the restaurant in a Mall Parking Lot. While we were going to shop anyway, it was not a big issue, but crossing the street was potentially dangerous, either by walking or driving. I also don't understand why all MFG Navigation won't allow one to make navigation decisions when moving, whereas Garmin and other aftermarket systems do. Many times we want last minute decisions that need to be made without stopping on a 6 lane freeway in heavy traffic. Most of the time we just use the factory nav as a map reference in all 3 of our vehicles with factory Nav. The GM system in our 15 & 16 Vettes is more accurate and seems more up to date than the 2023 Aviators. And... no, we haven't paid for any updates to them, nor have any system updates been required for glitches or poor operating software.

As for the stop/start issues. A simple wire patch that plugs in under the steering wheel solves the problem for around $100. Easy to install in a few minutes.

It would also be easy for Lincoln to provide a no cost software update that made the choices in the menu to be ON, OFF, DISABLE.

Absolutely... but "Big Brother" keeps them from doing it.

Whoever designed Sync 3 is probably the same person who designed the rear camera software and hardware!

As for the start/stop button, I forgot about it as I have mine turned off permanently.

t I guess for those who are really into climate change or wanting the ultimate in gas mileage, the concept is worthwhile where there are 2 minute or longer traffic light times. These are common in Naples, FL. Unfortunately, having to use one's horn to wake up the driver in front, negates any energy saving!!
How the heck did you permanently disable the auto start/stop?!!! I HATE that nonsense, please share so i can disable mine…..when i get it back from the shop that is! Lincoln, are you listening, auto start stop is stupid and pisses off most of us “older demographic” drivers.
