2018 Nav engine knocking at start-up

Spoke to Lincoln and they asked me to take my truck back to the dealership so they can listen to the noise again. Dealership picked it up today; fingers crossed they don’t give me the same nonsense answer “the noise does not effect the safety or functionality of the vehicle so warranty won’t cover it”. I am hoping to hear something tomorrow. We shall see. More to come.
Appreciate the follow-up.

Well, unfortunately Lincoln believes the turbo rattle is “normal” for these engines and won’t do anything to fix the issue. This is my second Navigator (first one was a 2013) and my 6 ford vehicle. Lincoln’s unwillingness to address obvious issues will make this my last! They make a beautiful truck but the service experience doesn’t fit the price tag.

Noticed at 20K miles a knocking sound at cold start. Would last for 1-2 seconds then stop.

I talked to Service who said this is common with the EcoBoost engine in this vehicle. He said it might be a loose “flap” on one of the turbos.

Now it happens on warm starts also and seems louder. It is embarrassing sound for a $85-90K vehicle.

Any other 18 or 19 Nav owners noticing this issue?

Resolution recommendations?
Hi there, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE CAMSHAFT SPRAKETS ON THIS TYPE OF ENGINE, COVER UNDER WARRANTY

I had this same type of noise on mine around 35k miles. It didn't really bother me, but when I took it in for other service the technicians really wanted to replace my Cam Phasers, etc because #1 I'm sure it's decent money for them to do on a slow day, and #2 they probably know that it is the sign of them beginning to fail.
They said that Lincoln now uses a different version of the Cam Phasers than before, not sure if that is true or just Service Advisor talk, but the noise went away (at least for now).

read this thread from the beginning. There is a TSB to replace the coil paks and cam phasers. Had to do my vehicle twice to finally get it resolved. Big PITA.
