Wrench light on dash

Yesterday I went to go to work 1 min into my commute -15 degrees Celsius my 07 mkx has a wrench light come on the dash. The rpm's start surging and vehicle won't accelerate. Put the transmission into neutral turned engine off and back on light and issue disappeared. Then on the way home did it again. Same results anyone know what this issue is?
Curious what the final outcome with this?

my 2017 MKC (but new to me) has the wrench light come intermittently when I go to start up the car. I’ve never driven with the light on and it’s never come on while driving. Dealership can’t recreate the situation either. My warranty ends in September so I’m desperate to get this straightened out before warranty ends D10BE78A-4703-4388-B4A0-18513DE8F5DA.webpC1A604E9-6B3C-4D46-9E53-3C4AD98BA30A.webpbasically if I start up the car and the light is on, I’ll turn the car off and re-star it.... light is off!
Just today I took a code reader to it and came up as no codes.
I’ve posted in the MKC forum with no final “fix”.

although a forum commenter mentioned that the wrench (powertrain) wouldn’t show codes with the reader since the reader only shows codes of emissions, ABS and airbags.
my Lincoln service advisor (who I’m not impressed by) keeps telling me “I just need the code. I can’t do anything without the code”.

"My warranty ends in September, so I’m desperate to get this straightened out before warranty ends."

Extend the warranty, in the meantime, then, continue troubleshooting.

Why would someone have to purchase additional warranty coverage when a defect is brought to the attention of the dealer and Lincoln while it is covered by warranty? If they can't fix it and it keeps happening, why is that cost placed on the owner?

And that’s the kicker.
dealership says without a code, they can’t do anything.
clearly my reader didn’t find any codes. I’m at a dead end.

My 2015 had done the same thing a few times it’s currently at a garage they just told me they drove it sixty miles and it never did it for them and said they were going to check the throttle body
What was your outcome here? Everything I am reading says throttle body yet Lincoln can't duplicate. It had only happened a few times but in the last week 3x. Any help appreciated
Hi G. Not sure...are you asking a question?

Does your vehicle exhibit any symptoms of a problem when it illuminates?

Did the explanation in the Owners Manual not answer your concerns as to that the wrench light is or what to do?

If you are saying you had it to the Dealer but they could not duplicate it: Next time it illuminates, driver to the Dealership and show them. Do not turn the vehicle off when you get there.

Get back to us with more information and we can try to help. Good luck.
Not sure about others but when it happens, you are not driving anywhere. The vehicle shuts down and loses power. Hopefully somewhere you can coast off road.

Mine is doing that now - it's the freakin broken gas cap door. and of course in 2015 they switched from an easy to fix 3 screw removal, to a 4 plastic clip system that breaks when you take it out (won't go back in properly because the 4 plastic clips are now a little "bent"). Good old Ford. If there's not a problem, they'll fix it.

I was wondering if you got the correct fix? I have a 2008 MKX & Ford house said needed new wiring harness. $1400.00 later I have the same issue. Runs fine then the yellow wrench light comes on & no acceleration. I stop, kill it & re-start and it’s fine until the next time. I’m not interested in chasing my tail & obviously Ford diagnostics isn’t effective.

I wanted to update ya. Auto zone checks codes and runs diagnostic for free. Just check with the cashier and tell them you need testing for codes. Mine end up reading codes for electric throttle issues, they think Mickey mouse chew up some wires. Which is not surprising in NYC. I figured I post here since this is where Google took me to. Also the wrech is also more to Maintenance especially with my oil at 40%.
