Side Mirror Tilt in Reverse

Up north we use a local "Tommy Wash". They have a month to month membership that allows unlimited washers anywhere they have a "Tommy Wash". There are 4 levels that one can subscribe to. We chose the second best, and it cost $37. a month. It does the best job washing I have ever gotten from an automatic system, though it is not touchless. I imagine I used it 40-50 times this summer and have no scratches etc. One drives onto a moving belt, and once on, you put the car in park, and it pulls you all the way through, where after the very effective blowers get one's vehicle almost completely dry. They also have free do it yourself vacuums. Unfortunately, there aren't any in Naples, but several about 30 minutes north.

Interestingly, I haven't needed to turn off my automatic rain sensing wipers as they don't go on. Don't ask me why, they just don't. AI lives in my Aviator! Probably by now is smarter than I am!!! ( at least according to my wife......)

Hi EcoBrick Bob. Concerning the Rain Sensing Wipers. Two points: First...You have to enable them in the Driver Information Center/programmable settings.
Second...Then, to have them on, you need to flip the wiper stalk up one position, to the "Interval wiper" position.

Otherwise they are off.

If you have done both of those things and they still do not work when it rains, there is a problem.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Peter, I wrote my post especially for your answer!!!
Thanks.
It works if you follow closely. It's also nice to see the tilt reverse option on your vehicle screen like it's supposed to be.

My wipers work fine. They sense rain and work flawlessly. Had them on my 20' Explorer ST also. I haven't had to turn them off when going into car washes. Always put vehicle in park in the car washes I use. May be different if the car must be in neutral when being pulled through the wash.

I am one of the few people that actually read the owners manual, though it sometimes takes me months!

So.... I assume I plug into the OBDII port to do this, is this correct? If I screw up, is this something my warranty would correct???
Just follow the Mustang E instructions and it will be fine. You're only turning on the function (on-off switch), not changing the hexadecimal numbers on the other programming feature.

Hi EcoBrick Bob. Oooops...Sorry, I guess I misunderstood what you meant when you stated "Interestingly, I haven't needed to turn off my automatic rain sensing wipers as they don't go on. Don't ask me why, they just don't."

I thought you meant they have not been turning on at all.

Good luck.

No, your warranty would be voided, I suspect.

What do you mean by “Up north”? Pensacola? Boston? Canada? It sounds like your wipers are defective. Are they Visio?

There are hundreds of "Tommy Wash" locations. The one I was using is in Mason City, Iowa (River City - "Music Man") We live on Clear Lake, IA during the summer (Surf Ballroom - "The Day the Music DIed").

Wipers are working fine.

Never heard of them. Must be a midwest thing, lol. Like toasted ravioli or cheese curd pie... ;)

There are 177 currently operating and 92 under construction. They are located all over the eastern US and headquartered in Holland, MI

Are you sure? Maybe they have a different name here, cuz nobody I know has ever heard of them. Are they an Amazon or Costco subsidiary?
How did we get from tilt mirrors in reverse feature to wipers and car washes??

Hi bobhamb. "Mission creep". It happens in most any thread that goes more than 2-3 replies. 🙃;)

Good luck. 🍻

It's also due to lack of attention span, particularly in *ahem* some of the older members here.... 😁

I got the tilt mirror in reverse function for both mirrors to work flawlessly. To the people that don't like the function, it only works when you select either mirror. It won't work if you don't select the mirror. I used Forscan and the Mustang Mach E site. Very easy to do, but after Forscan, it didn’t show the reverse mirror function until you shut the car off and restart it.
Here is the Mustang E site:

Yep I just tried this and it works as it should

I just had dealer look at my rain sensing wipers (2022 Grand Touring Aviator). They seem to have a mind of their own. Sometimes the auto sense setting works fine & other times, wipes 4x quickly but then won’t wipe again even though water has built up to the point you can’t see. I thought the sensors might work diff when you’re on hwy at 70mph vs 30mph but it happens at both speeds & only sometimes.
Dealer says they’re working as designed so I’m baffled as to whether it’s a design flaw. No point in having rain sensing wipers if you can’t rely on them & need to switch the auto sense off. Any insight would be appreciated!

Hi Silverskates. Blind Internet diagnosis is a very difficult, so I will make this suggestion (only thoughts on possible scenarios): The rain sensing sensitivity is adjustable. By using the dial on the wiper stalk, you an adjust that rain sensitivity. And you may need to do this at higher speeds.
So try adjusting the sensitivity, if you have not already done so.

Also, we need to keep in mind that the frequency of wiping is solely determined by a sensor located under the rear view mirror. So if there is rain/moisture in front of the sensor, it will wipe, even if the rest of the windshield may seem to be relatively rain free.

As an example: Let's say a freak/large rain drop hits right dead center in front of that sensor, but not much rain is hitting the rest of the windshield, the sensor will set off a wipe, while we may not see much rain on the windshield in front of us.
And vice-a-versa...There could be rain on the rest of the windshield, but not much in front of the sensor for some god-forsaken reason. ;)

If the above thoughts don't seem to apply to your vehicle, here is a suggestion: See if you can duplicate the issue at home using a hose and spray nozzle. If you can, then perform the same test at the Dealership, in order to demonstrate to them that your wipers are not "working as designed". They certainly must have a hose there. And bring your spray nozzle from home, so you can duplicate the test as closely as possible.

Again, these are all just blind Internet thoughts and suggestions.

EDIT- Oh...and you may get more replies relating to your wiper issue if you begin a new thread with a more relatable title than the OP's "Side Mirror Tilt in Reverse". Maybe "Rain sensing wiper issue"?

I am sure others will have more advice and suggestions, so keep us updated and good luck. 🍻
