Side Mirror Tilt in Reverse

Good Afternoon,

I am new to this forum as I have just purchased a brand new 2022 Lincoln Aviator and was wondering if there is something I need to enable or turn on to have this occur. To be more specific of what I am speaking of is when you put the vehicle in reverse the passenger side mirror tilt's down so you can see the line for reverse parking. Thank you.
for some reason ford-lincoln does not have this really convenient feature. i did not have it (even as an option) on my 2013 explorer nor was it available on my current 2020 aviator. i do have it on my all of my other vehicles (2003 mercedes e320, 2015 mercedes c300, 2018 mercedes sl450 as well as my summer driver a 2007 porsche). doesn't matter if you have camera's or not.....this feature is really worthwhile having. i don't understand why on an $80,000 vehicle a few extra bucks weren't spent on putting it in.
i might add, that the external rear cameras on the lincoln are a bit useless if the weather isn't great. mercedes has ones that open when needed and so are always clear and crisp regardless of what's happening outside.

Although I've never had that feature, I don't really see a need for it. My solution in post #2 is all I need to be able to see where the wheels are without losing the overall view. Very inexpensive as well and nothing to go eventually go wrong.:)
Also, from my understanding and looking at the spec sheet of my Aviator. The feature is there, it's just not enabled as per my post #12.

No. Many cars have both folding and tilting mirrors. My Range Rover Velar had both.
That post was made 2 years ago. I explained in a more recent post above, that the 'tilt' feature is shown as being "disabled" in the vehicle specification sheet. No sure why but it isn't something I would really want.

I recently rented a car that had tilting mirrors and found that I didn’t like it.

While it may help you see the parking line when backing up, when I had this in one of my vehicles some years ago, I disabled it because I couldn't see any obstacles beside my vehicle when backing up. When it was active, when backing up, I almost sideswiped another vehicle that was parked next to me.

Tilting mirrors complement the 360 camera in my opinion. I've had them on an Acura and found them handy. However, they are not a must have if you have the 360 cameras.

That's where the mirrors I posted about in post #2 come in handy. You have the best of both. I put a new set on the 2023 Aviator the day I picked it up from the dealership.

The 360 degree vision is really great when backing up in tight spaces. Much easier to use than mirrors!

Right. In many ways, the 360 camera has supplanted the mirror tilt.

I know it's a long-shot, and I haven't tried it in my mom's new-to-her '20 Reserve, but has anyone tried pushing the power adjustment button for one of the mirrors to see if it'll tilt in reverse? That's how my Volvo XC60 was. Press the right side mirror button, then engage reverse. That mirror would tilt down.

My '08 Infiniti QX56 has tilting reverse mirrors, but I turned them off. They also power fold, so that's not an issue.

If the Aviator Reserves are all the same as mine, the Specification Sheet will show TDAJJ REVERSE MIRRORS DISABLED.

I tried it yesterday. Doesn't work.

I got the tilt mirror in reverse function for both mirrors to work flawlessly. To the people that don't like the function, it only works when you select either mirror. It won't work if you don't select the mirror. I used Forscan and the Mustang Mach E site. Very easy to do, but after Forscan, it didn’t show the reverse mirror function until you shut the car off and restart it.
Here is the Mustang E site:

I also have a 2023 Aviator Black Label Grand Touring bought 2 wks ago. Just to let you know, this works with the newest Aviators.

So.... I assume I plug into the OBDII port to do this, is this correct? If I screw up, is this something my warranty would correct???
Quick answer, NO. The warranty does not cover modifications made to the vehicle. It is covered in your Warranty Guide.

Hi EcoBrick Bob. Usually...No.

And the reason is: Lincoln and all vehicle manufacturers only warranty the vehicle as it left the factory or in the case of changes they made. Therefore, unless you have an extremely accommodating Service Department, if you screw up, and the Service Department realizes you messed with the as-built programming, the warranty will not cover this type of reprogramming.

EDIT- Sorry for the repeat answer. Peter and I were replying at the same time, but he types quicker.

Good luck.

Up north we use a local "Tommy Wash". They have a month to month membership that allows unlimited washers anywhere they have a "Tommy Wash". There are 4 levels that one can subscribe to. We chose the second best, and it cost $37. a month. It does the best job washing I have ever gotten from an automatic system, though it is not touchless. I imagine I used it 40-50 times this summer and have no scratches etc. One drives onto a moving belt, and once on, you put the car in park, and it pulls you all the way through, where after the very effective blowers get one's vehicle almost completely dry. They also have free do it yourself vacuums. Unfortunately, there aren't any in Naples, but several about 30 minutes north.

Interestingly, I haven't needed to turn off my automatic rain sensing wipers as they don't go on. Don't ask me why, they just don't. AI lives in my Aviator! Probably by now is smarter than I am!!! ( at least according to my wife......)

Peter, I wrote my post especially for your answer!!!
