Open Letter to Lincoln - How I'd Improve the Nautilus

Waze on top screen
Unfortunately, that will likely never happen. Waze is an interactive app and even in cars that allow different maps in fully configurable instrument clusters, Waze is never allowed up there.

I may be misunderstanding you, but doesn't the map on the top screen just mimic the touchscreen? Why would it need to be any more interactive than Google or Apple maps' route guidance?

Agreed. The 48" screen does not appear to be developed to accept any generic app. The app has to be custom tailored to support the display. And that wouldn't be Lincoln developing, that would be Waze.

And btw, even though Waze is owned by Google, (i.e., Alphabet), Google is more interested in incorporating Waze features into Google Maps than it is interested in proliferating Waze onto new platforms.

Offer hybrids on all Lincolns. The Corsair GT PHEV is nice but the cost is a lot compared to what you would get with a standard FHEV and the payback is several years more for the PHEV compared to the FHEV.

I agree! I'm not sure why hybrids have taken so long to become popular. Sure they were only on econoboxes before, but the advantages are great, even for old gas grumblers.

Btw, don't forget the cost of PHEVs are subsidized by the government up to $7,500. Meanwhile, no incentive is offered for hybrids, which is why they price PHEVs so high.

Better ambient lighting available on all trims. If not standard, then as an option.
Map on 48” screen should show traffic, maybe arrival time too during navigation.
Ability to connect two phones at the same time for calls.
Lock button in the trunk area
Physical lock button on all doors
More themes For 48” display.
More widgets for 48” display.

Never going to happen, but maybe even an open architecture for widgets and themes, not just for Lincoln, but across all brands. Smaller companies with great widgets simply can't develop them for every brand out there. Android is an open source OS, but it's playground is limited to the touchscreen. Open it up to the extended displays. That would allow the number of available options to explode. (Not literally.)

Too many cooks. We see pairs of companies collaborating, but in general they don't want to give up their competitive advantage to other companies. It's better than it was, but the industry is still pretty old school and they don't share their technology a lot. Maybe one day, but not for this generation of the Nautilus.

Btw, this is partly based on my experience in the industry decades ago, my son's experience a decade ago, and my brother-in-law who worked as a high-level consultant with both GM and Ford, and even worked with ol' Bill Ford (liked him a lot).

  • Retain the radio power state between starts, if it was turned off then don't turn it on when the car is started
  • Retain the climate control state between starts, including the A/C button state and dash vent directional settings
  • Don't turn on heated/ventilated seats automatically (except with remote start when that option is enabled)
  • Do turn off heated/ventilated seats when a passenger seat is vacated
  • Have the left/right radio buttons on the steering wheel scroll through radio presets, even when playing SiriusXM (ideally offer an option setting for those who like the current behavior)

1. have same seat control options as my 2007/2009 Lincoln. The base model does not have rotate option (where seat and back move together).
2. Brighter center display. with sunglasses on, it gets dim. The main area for improvement is climate control (fan speed and temp very close together for touch operation)
3. locatable interior fuse box (still have not found it and will get the dealer to show me on next trip)
4. Better manual
5. side view camera when turn signal is on (blind spot on drivers side and existing lane monitoring is useless when merging on interstates). The pillar and head rest block everything.
6. I agree with a post elsewhere that the carpeting seems cheap but not a buying factor. I do not know how well it will last.
7. Brighter puddle lights (Lincoln welcome mat)
8. Better overhead lighting in cargo area
9. illuminated cup holders
10. more upfront on connectivity costs

I had to go out of my way to get a Nautilus without a vista roof. I ended up with a Premier. As a builder said on a remodel job, why put a hole in a perfectly good roof. It seems standard with any package over Premier.

What's right
1. plenty of power (hybrid), fast response
2. ride and low noise
3. good seating position (high up over hood)
4. dash, steering wheel shape, etc. I do not need a lot more widgets
5. adjustable rear seats
6, practical design - no exotic contours along side with simple body lines (seems to be a play area for car makers) that hamper storage, etc.

A couple more.

Better storage options. All of the door storage bins should include a place for a drink or water bottle. A dedicated place to put the rear center head rest when not in place. Nets for cubby holes in back.

How about getting the fix completed for the 2024 which have been delivered to owners and owners who have money down waiting to take delivery.
For brand loyalty, Lincoln could offer these individuals a deal on extended warranties, from the Customer Satisfaction Program, just over 8000 vehicles effective in Canada/US, offer owners who have taken delivery or who put money down waiting for the fix.

I'm with you on the vista roof, the 2024 Reserve 1did not come with. Not possible for 2025, Reserve 2 package or higher is only option for Reserve trim.

Pano roof should be at least a delete option. I preferred a Reserve 3 but the pano was a deal killer. I appreciate the additional headroom, quietness, and lack of complexity for a feature I will never use.

Understandable. The noise level is unchanged with or without the pano roof but the headroom and long term potential repair is valid.

The Lincoln App is nice but it's missing critical status information such as whether the vehicle is locked or not. Attached see the information provided by the Mercedes GLC 300 app.
