After a six month wait, picked up my new Aviator. It is BEAUTIFUL! Flight blue color is awesome. Love the dash, interior snd all the bells and whistles. The dealership didn’t have and Aviator with perfect position seats, but I took a chance and got them. They will take a bit of getting used to, but I am sure once I get the seats adjusted just right they will be comfortable. Did quite a long test drive in a 2021 Aviator as it was the only aviator on the lot before I ordered. Drive was smooth and quiet. My new Aviator is very noisy. Engine sounds like it is working really hard. The auto engine stop/start is very noticeable, not smooth engine start at all and the engine whines on deceleration. I did check to make sure the vehicle is not set on enhanced drive mode. It also has a very rough ride….. like a truck. Husband’s F150 King Ranch has a much smoother ride. I’ll stop at the dealership tomorrow and have them look at it. This is not buyer’s remorse. I did my research snd took a test drive before ordering. Anyone else have a noisy rough riding Aviator?

We're not in your shoes yet since ours will likely be delivered in a day or two but I highly recommend that you don't go to the dealership until they have another Aviator on property with the same suspension as yours. This way you can do back to back drives in each car on the same patch(es) of road. You may wish to check out a particular roadway near the dealership that exhibits all you loathe about the roughness in advance of your drive with the service advisor so you can quickly go there and make your case.

P.S. Years ago when I bought a brand new car, the 5 speed transmission would bump the transmission tunnel under hard turns coincident with bumps. It was a Turbo GT Mustang. When the service writer tried to blow smoke you-know-where by saying 'they all do that' - when we got back to the dealership after my demo drive I parked the car and said to him - pick one. He said 'what?'. I pointed to 3 other GT Mustangs and said pick the one you want to show me does the same thing. After 2 other drives he gave up and recognized it was an issue (they never figured it out - I finally did and showed them what was needed - a hammer and pry bar to 'clearance' the tunnel a little.

Thanks for the info. Dealer got 6 in last week, so hoping they still have a couple left so I can drive one like mine.

The engine in mine has what others have referred to as a 'raspy' noise when starting off but then is very quiet. The start/stop when it functions is barely noticeable and the engine never "whines" upon deceleration. Overall, I'd say mine is quiet and smooth riding.
Have you checked the tire pressures? Sometimes the dealer forgets to change them to the correct pressures from the shipping PSI which is quite high.

Also did you end up getting one with the same suspension, tires, and rims as the one you test drove?

Update. Went to the dealership. Our salesman rode in our new Aviator and then we drove one that they have on the lot. Ours is noisier and rides much rougher. We are waiting for dashcam system, running boards and safe. Service said they think our vehicle might need a reset and would check it out when it is in for the installs. Said it might be stuck in excite mode. Said they would check. I’m not convinced. It is louder and rougher in excite mode and conserve works just fine. We will see. The one we drove from the lot had a much smoother ride and was much more quiet. Only real difference between that one and mine was the adjustable seats. Checked tire pressure and it is correct.

Good job. Unless they are clear liars, it's hard to refute a back to back comparison. They conceded that something's wrong. I recommend somehow you communicate with them in writing documenting whatever they said to that affect. That becomes your evidence (no I'm not an attorney - just been here before!).

Could be possibly something is off with your suspension and maybe ANC isn't working. Keep us informed. Mine is one of the smoothest and quietest vehicles I have ever been in.

Do you have the base suspension? - if so - there's not much that can be 'off'. If the dynamic suspension, I've never delved down this road but all control systems have input devices (sensors), actuation devices and computer software to make it work. IMHO there's little to no chance you have errant software, so either one of the actuation devices is bad (doubt it because that would localize the issues to one wheel or one axle), OR you have a sensor off that can impact the entire system.

Rather than try and pontificate - let's see where their testing takes them.

Somehow I expected this thread to be about me after a workout. Any who....

Hope they get it solved.

I have a similar problem (dealer confirmed) and mine is a Dynamic Handling package. I haven't been able to get it corrected, so I'll be interested to hear what they come up with.

I was assuming dynamic but dont know on that one. Mine has been perfect but I could see how it could potentially have an issue as there is more complexity to it.

Is the dynamic suspension the one that drops down? If yes, mine does not have that. Salesman said not to get it because they had lots of problems with it, but, he also told me that the electric engine would not charge by braking like a hybrid, said it had to be plugged in Avery 20 miles, so I opted out of that too, because I thought a 20 mile max was ridiculous. After ordering found out it will charge, so would have been good for me as I do most of my driving in town. Oh well, it is what it is. Should have done my own research. Hope they figure it out.

Correct it can. Its basically the air suspension. Technically speaking on the GT it will behave like a hybrid if it has no charge. Using preserve mode would bring it back up by a combination of mostly engine and some braking. to be honest the 20 miles in nice for around town and I typically get around 23-26 miles on it depending on weather/driving style. Also it might be helpful to know what version you have such as tire size and if its awd so we can see if anyone who has a similar config has a similar issue.

Any update?

Well, the stiffness seems to be working itself out. Getting those seats adjusted just right is a challenge, but worth the effort! The dealer is still waiting for the dashcam to come in and wants us to bring the car in when all three things they owe us are ready to be installed (dashcam-safe-running boards). They said they will see if they can do something about the noise at that time. I really like my aviator. If they can figure out how to reduce the road and engine noise it will be wonderful. The only thing I could recommend to someone considering an aviator is to do their research better than I did. Salesman told me the plug in electric version did not auto recharge when driving like a normal hybrid and required a plug in charge every 20 miles. Also said the air suspension had lots of problems. If I had done my own research I would have ordered a GT. I think I got every other option on my reserve except the plug in hybrid and GT suspension. Live and learn!

Hello,
We are having the same issues with our 2022. I noticed you said the stiffness is working itself out. How many miles did you have to put on it? It does fine with the bigger bumps but it's like riding in a off-road truck.

Thank you..

I have about 1200 miles on it. It still doesn’t ride as smooth as my husband’s King Ranch, but it is better than it was week one.. I think it has a lot to do with the fancy adjustable seats. They aren’t nearly as plush as the others. Once you figure out how to adjust them just right it helps the ride. Too bad the passenger seat doesn’t have memory. I’m still going to have them look at the suspension when they check the noise issue and install our extras. Hope yours loosens up for you. How does your auto stop work? Mine will turn the engine off at a stop for about 60 seconds. Then it restarts. This is with absolutely no release of pressure on the brake and no touch to the accelerator. Salesman said that was factory set, but doesn’t make sense to me. Wondered if this was normal.

There is a long list of parameters that affect this feature. It could be that after the time period you mentioned, one of them is no longer being met and therefore the restart. See page 218 of your manual if you have a 2022.

I’ll do that. Thanks.
