I've been having some issues since the last OTA update, so I had to call Lincoln Way support. They told me about a system reboot procedure that I didn't know about.

I think everyone knows by now that to reboot the infotainment system, you have to press the volume button five times within seven seconds (previously, you had to hold it down). I used to be able to perform this reset while driving, but now it appears that you have to be stopped for it to work.

I was having issues with cruise control not working, and the agent saw faults for the lane departure system and the parking system. To reboot everything, the support agent told me to:

  1. stop and turn the car off
  2. open the driver's door
  3. lock the driver's door with the lock button on the door
  4. close the driver's door
  5. wait at least 15 seconds, and start the vehicle
You can remain in the car for this, and we didn't open any other doors or anything. The screens don't do anything that makes it appear that anything has rebooted (like they do when you reboot the infotainment system with the volume knob), but this process worked and allowed me to use the cruise control for the rest of my trip.

Thanks for the info. So do you still have to press the volume button 5 times before or after the 5 steps you mentioned? We had the update and wanted to reboot. Holding the button down no longer worked of course. We had the car idling in front of the garage. We pressed the button 5 times in 7 seconds several times and nothing happened. We kept trying and suddenly the screen went black, but not for a long time like it used to but for a few seconds and then it came back. Not sure if it reset anything, but we did it because the HVAC controls did not appear to work smoothly.

No, pressing the volume button 5 times is just for the infotainment system, and does not need to be done with the reset of the rest of the car's systems.

Thanks again. We will try the method you posted and report back. Not sure if the HVAC controls you have to click on the center screen are considered part of the infotainment system or not.

Maybe next they will add step 6: Throw a pinch of salt over your right shoulder while wearing the seatbelt.

What I see in the above is what I (and likely others too) do in normal use. I will use the door lock button when exiting the car when out driving to the store. etc If the above is a reset it does not do what a 5 button push does, as there is no visible delay or anything, It takes more than 15 seconds to reset the vehicle using 5 button push.

I could see it could reset codes but "reboot"? I did a reboot the other day and there was NOTHING displayed for a long time.

A mobile service tech said disconnecting the battery for 5 minutes was another reset method.

In any case, it is not the first time that various error codes had to be cleared to be restore certain functions.

Well we followed the method of locking the door. When it was time to start the car after 15 seconds it said that the key was not recognized? We tried multiple times (we were at least 1 hour from home) but it would not recognize the key fob. We were getting ready to call Lincoln service. I then put the key into the slot in the console under the armrest, and it was recognized and started the car. After running more errands it started every time at least 5 additional times. I believe I will remove the battery cable if it requires another reboot.

That's strange. We don't use keys, just PAAK, and can use the backup password, if necessary, so I can't speak to issues with the key being recognized.

Thanks for your post. It is very timely for me. I just had a few issues on my afternoon errand.

1. Backing out of my garage it engaged the hard stop as I started backing up. I was backing up quicker than normal out of my one car garage door, so maybe this is unrelated. But it happened so I mention it.

2. While on the highway, I try to turn on the cruise control and I got a cruise control unavailable message. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this, but I immediately thought about your post. I tried several times to engage the cruise control to no avail.

3. On my way back home after my errand, I turned on cruise control and it worked, but the lane centering wasn’t working and BlueCruise would not engage either. This is I-10, where Blue Cruise would be normally available.

I got home and tried your process. Will be on a highway again in the morning to see if it works.

Did the additional method solve all your issues?

It did! I stopped at a highway rest area and performed the procedure. It must have cleared the error messages (faults), and I was able to turn on the cruise control and use BlueCruise for the rest of my trip. I'm glad it worked, as I have my semi-annual 22-hour drive coming up in 2 days, so I wasn't looking forward to having no cruise control, let alone Blue Cruise!

Blue Cruise and lane centering worked for me this morning after following the process yesterday.

After we got the PHX-25.1.2.4 update last week, the lane assist feature was enabled on it's own. We had never used it before so my wife wasn't sure what was going on with the wheel nudging her this way or that. It stayed that way for several drives, and then when I rode with her in the car I recognized the lane assist on the dash display. We did the 5 in 7 reboot and it went away.
