MSRP and dealer markup

Ted Britt Ford Lincoln in Chantilly, VA. - bought fully loaded GT on 1/26/22 with X-Plan discounts and $1K Lincoln Loyalty credit with no down payment when I ordered on Oct. 2nd, 2021 and no dealer markups. Fabulous dealer. Their service department is top notch. I was in and out on buying day in 1-1/2 hours. It was all digital in the finance office and signed everything on a digital desktop. Incredible experience. I bought the service/maintenance package for 5 years. I'll buy the extended warranty when I get close to the 4 year mark. They offer x-plan discount on extended warranty and maintenance plans.

Hi heyward. Just to avoid confusion for others: Despite whatever your Dealer may have told you...There is no such thing as an "X-Plan discount on extended warranties and maintenance plans".

X-Plan only applies to the vehicle pricing itself. There is no X-Plan pricing on ESP's, maintenance plans, Lincoln accessories, etc. etc. The animal does not exist, and Lincoln/Ford explain this in the rules for X-Pan sales on the X-Pan website.

Plus, there is an almost ironclad surety that you will be able to get a better price on your ESP than your Dealer is offering by using one of the online Lincoln ESP sellers we have recommended in other threads(especially considering their shady statements to you) .

Feel free to ask any questions and good luck.

bbf2530, thanks. I just recall that the maintenance plan on my 2016 Fusion when I bought it and had a 5 year plan was about $2500. For the Lincoln Corsair for 5 year coverage was $1600. The finance guy said he applied X-Plan discount on that plan and would do the same when I shop for extended warranty. I was surprised the plan was $1600 for 5 years for a much more expensive and complex vehicle.

When I put down $500 to give me "first dibs" on this particular GT, it was being advertised at MSRP. But while waiting a few weeks for it to arrive at the dealer, an additional $2500 "market adjustment" was added to the price (oh how they don't like it when you refer to it as the additional dealer profit that it actually is).

When the vehicle arrived, I mentioned this situation to the salesman, adding that I've never paid more than MSRP for a vehicle and I wasn't about to start now. I expected to walk out of there empty-handed, but they knocked the price back down to the MSRP that it was at when I first put down the $500. If it hadn't been for that, I probably wouldn't be driving this GT right now.

Hi heyward. Go here and work up the same plan: Lincoln Protect Extended Service Plans (ESP) - Lincoln Extended Warranty Cost | Zeigler Ford ESP

That is where, after very extensive online and local Dealership price shopping, I purchased the Lincoln ESP Plan for my last 5 cars. Calculate the same plan level, same deductible, month and mileage limits etc., and see how it works out.

As far as the difference in prices: Is it a genuine LincolnProtect Plan, the same plan level (there are 3 plan levels), exact same coverages, deductibles etc. etc.?

But bottom line concerning the finance guy applying an "X-Plan discount" to the LincolnProtect ESP and Maintenance Plans: There is no "X-Plan discount" for LincolnProtect ESP Plans and never has been. Same with LincolnCare Maintenance Plans.
So whatever the "finance guy said he applied" was simply made up numbers and an untruthful statement. And I am always wary of someone who makes up things.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I was fortunate to be able to purchase my ‘22 Corsair, about a month ago, using the corporate discount Ford X Plan. I paid about invoice (much less than MSRP). The dealer also found me the color combinations I wanted at another dealership 90 miles away. He swapped one of his other cars for mine the next day. I also received the $1000 rebate and 1.9% 5 year financing. The dealer also threw in Lincoln all weather mats and the cargo cover tray at no cost. I couldn’t be happier with the deal. And the service I received from my local dealer was first class!

We bought our 2022 Corsair AWD with premium package (pano roof, 19 inch wheels, genuine leather seats, etc.) a few weeks ago. This particular unit was a sales demo and had 950 miles on it, but otherwise brand new, never registered. We got a $1,400 dealer discount off MSRP and $1,000 Lincoln rebate. Total price was $43,550 before taxes and fees. They were selling vehicles at or below MSRP.

That is because of supply and demand.
Vehicles (and many other things) are in short supply. Because of that a dealer (or sellers of other things) increases the selling price. Mostly because if you won't pay that price someone else will.
The dealership HAS to supply the MSRP and the window sticker because of federal law. However there is no law stating they can not charge more than that as long as it is disclosed.

The new car auto market has been here before. And because of current inflation many other products and services are increasing.

My understanding is that in Canada, a dealer may not sell the car for over MSRP. But apparently a gray area, is added accessories, which can be added to the vehicle.

I bought my '22 Corsair Reserve FWD on March 24, 2022 and there wasn't a $1,000 rebate. I had a Ford $750 offer that came in the mail, and 50,000 Lincoln rewards pts (worth $250) that added up to $1,000. These are listed on my contract as $1,000 rebate. I hope I didn't get screwed out of the $1,000 rebate!

Is there any way to see if the $1,000 rebate was in effect at the time I purchased?

I think it was package-specific. $1k rebate on package 101A ($2,550 package). The $1k rebate wasn’t available on the Reserve. We liked the Reserve, especially with the monochromatic package, but the Standard we got had the 101A package and the premium package, so it was pretty well-equipped for the price. We also got rewards points, but only 40k.

Thanks for this. I have a Reserve 1, which has Package 201A

I had heard that too.

And the way around that would be to do a interior protection package on every vehicle and then charge more.
Here is how that goes down at the dealership -

Don't want the package on that one? Hmm let me check inventory. Nope that one has already been treated. How about ... nope. Nope no!
Would you like to place a special order? I heard the turn time is only 8 to 12 weeks.

Who is the dealer? I'd travel to get treated like that.

My dealer had a $1499 market adjustment on the ‘22 Corsair I just leased. That came off immediately. There was a $750 discount on the Reserve I package, a $500 Lincoln incentive and a $2000 discount from Lincoln if I bought or leased a new one. Our 2019 MkC appraised at $5,000+ over the lease residual value. So I “bought” the 2019 and the dealer immediately bought it from me. Had to pay off the residual value plus TTL. No argument on price but the paperwork plus the orientation to the new vehicle took forever.

The rebate was in effect until April but was only good on dealer in stock inventory.

Mine was in stock, bought March 24, but someone else here mentioned the rebate was package specific. I have 201A.

Rebates are offered in several iterations. They may be specific to a certain location. They may be specific to certain trim levels. I have never heard of a rebate being specific to a package, only to Standard, Reserve or Grand Touring. I'm certain there is some sort of sales science behind it but I have no idea how they determine them.

Yeah, it's a done deal. If I left $1,000 on the table, oh well shame on me.

I really don’t think you did. It was a rebate on package 101A. I even built the same car on Lincoln.com and saw the package rebate added. Here’s a photo of TrueCar also showing the rebate. It was package-specific and not available on the Reserve trim.
