Lincoln MKZ Warped Dash Repair

Hopefully I've had the warped dash problem resolved at the dealers...I wanted it glued and screwed, but they did not want to glue it. They flattened it back to its original state, installed (5) screws and the new defroster cover. The screws are color matched and everything looks great. How long will it last ? They seem to think it will be ok. I have my doubts, but well worth a try. (Anyone wanting to try this, be forewarned... they said there was a chance of breaking the windshield in the process.)
This has happened to my 2007 Lincoln mkz. What did they charge to fix it at the dealer?

I can't find anyone that can replace my vinyl top on my 2007 Lincoln mkz

I have been fortunate, 2008 MKZ no issues thus far. It is a Florida car with very few miles always garaged always covered. I treat the dash regularly with a conditioner weekly. What a pain, but no issues with the dash.

You were lucky ! You should see the dash on my 2008 MKZ -- the covering has rose up enough so that the plastic defroster vent has broken in THREE pieces ! Ford/Lincoln should be real proud !
Yea, this is my car now. Started with one break in the vent and now it's pulled the entire damn thing off

Mine is lifting right before the defroster vent in my 06 zephyr. I bought some loctite 410 and will try the popsicle method with heavy books or something. Next will be a few black flat head screws just not sure how long and with a right hand angle driver I guess so I can clear the glass.

No,I don't have photos, they put a total of (6) screws along the edge of the plastic vent piece (the edge that faces you as you sit in the car). They were small dark screws that had washers that seem to catch the edge of the plastic vent. They said there's a danger of breaking the windshield in the process, so be careful if you try it. Be sure you do it and keep the car in a warm environment...they told me that the screws would hold things down and give things time to re-mold. So far so good, but the weather here has been cool lately. I also bought the gas pressure hose described above in case what has started to lift on the outside edges. GOOD LUCK !

Hi...

Have this problem with my Mother's 2007 MKZ and looking at it am convinced in this case your screw down solution would work great, maybe w/ Torx head vs Phillips as it would engage w/ the bit more securely... using an offset screw / bit driver or better a flat ratchet w/ hex headed screws should work...

Information that would be a major help is the size of the screws used, especially the length required... and if no pictures a more detailed description of their location than given in your previous posts would be very helpful...

I'm guessing that self tapping screws are the way to go... any thoughts on that... is the underlying medium the screws are engaging w/ metal (steel or aluminum) or some composite material...

If you or anyone else who's either done this specifically, or been into the dash enough to be able to give a knowledgeable answer that would be greatly appreciated and save a bunch of us a lot of guesswork...

TIA...

*Update*
I am having success with Loctite 410. I moved my defroster grid/panel towards the front of the windshield without disconnecting the sensor. Make sure to use vinyl gloves and apply the loctite to your index finger. Reach in and back towards where you are sitting and I suggest doing one side at a time since this sets up very quickly. Just apply it side to side on the underside of the rubber side that has come up. Replace the defroster grid and grab a thick heavy book like a encyclopedia britanica. Remember those? Wedge it under the glass and make sure it pushes down on the dash. Let it sit over night or at least a few hours to make sure you applied enough. Repeat for the other side and sit in the other seat lol. Don't rush it but like I said it does setup fast. So far, my drivers side is flat like new. I did buy loctite super glue for the defroster grid when I am done as I am saving that for last. It appears mine has a couple broken tabs. I will post pics when it's done.

Hi Bricktop. Keep us updated. Hope it is a permanent fix.

Just as an FYI: Having the same issue with my 2007 MKZ, I checked with the Parts Department at my Lincoln Dealer about a month ago, and the defroster grill is an available part.

Let me know if you are interested, and I can dig up the Invoice they gave me and provide you the part number. The part number I have will be for the black grill with the ambient light sensor. While I would advise you double-check before ordering, I would think the grill may very well be the same for the 2006-2009 models.

Good luck.

Do you recall the charge for this? Thanks.

A Dealer who purchased 2008 MKZ with a warped dash. The dash had at least 12 to 14 inches come loose at def vent and looked like a seagull taking off. Purchased on the internet a small bottle of loctite 410 instant adhesive. This stuff is expensive about $34.00 for small bottle but worth its weight in gold. It is a black glue the bottle has a long applicator tip. I was able to turn bottle side ways insert tip under the raised dash Be very careful as it sets up immediately. Took a pop cycile stick to spread it out push dash forward layed some books on it and you would not believe the results All hell could not pull it apart now looks as good as factory Wish I had some before and after pictures Be careful not to get on you or other part of the dash Did leave books on overnight. Put the new grill on and was flabbergasted at the great results Try it you will like it
Did that last?

Did that last?
Curious if anyone has come up with what they feel is a good fix? I see the LOCTITE fix and think that is the way to go but was looking for additional feedback. I see everyone mentioning sun/heat as the contributing factor. Not sure that is 100% accurate. The 2007 I am having this problem with was bought new by my elderly mom and always garaged. Car only has 42k miles on it.
