armtdm, What is 100% gas,and does it cost more than the mixed (I am guessing ethanol/gas)? Do all gas stations have this as an option? Jim

I would have been better with the Lexus 300H - which now gets better mileage than the mkz and has a much nicer dealer service experience. My Ford dealer charges for coffee! Sheesh. What's weird is last summer they were reprogramming the car to get higher mileage....I never saw a difference. I have 43.5 life - not bad but I still feel cheated.
When i calculate actual MPG by dividing trip meter miles by the gas pump gallons, I have NEVER ONCE achieved the MPG reported by my trip computer.
I don't mind that the car doesn't get 45MPG (or now 38city 37 hwy mpg)... I just want it to tell me accurate MPGs!!!
Many people report getting 2-3mpg lower than the dash reported average... i usually get ~7mpg less than the dash reports... mind you my lifetime brake score is 95% so I am driving the hybrid as it should be driven.
My dealer suggested resetting the average MPG (Hold OK button of left of steering wheel) which has not helped.
SO FRUSTRATING!!!
The futility of chasing MPG...
So after listening to a certain someone complain about buying gas (again) wishing they had a more fuel efficient daily driver, I decided to freshen up my math and show how irrational it was to lust after a car with unicorn like fuel mileage.
Subject #1: A 2006 Lincoln Town Car purportedly showing an overall fuel mileage of 19 mpg (mixed driving).
Subject #2: A "new" 2014 Prius, chosen solely for the uber fuel mileage rating of 50 mpg.
Wow, at first thought it would seem a no brainer... with over 2-1/2 times the fuel mileage, surely it wouldn't take long to pay for it and come out ahead of the game. Lets see...
Let's just say the Town Car is used as a trade in (LOL) on said Prius. With a generous trade-in value of $12,000 one can buy the $25,000 Prius for the difference of $13,000 (taxes and fees excluded of course). So the basis of our comparison is how long will it take to 'pay back' the investment and begin reaping rewards of hyper-mileage in the spanky new gas sipping Prius.
Using an average fuel price of $3.89 per gallon, it costs a shade over 20 cents per mile in the Town Car and a just under 8 cents per mile in the Prius for a difference of 12.7 cents per mile in fuel savings. The $13,000 difference in capital costs would only take...
102,413 miles to pay back.
After that it's money in the bank!![]()
