Lincoln lowers fuel economy numbers for 2013/2014 MKZ hybrids -

armtdm, What is 100% gas,and does it cost more than the mixed (I am guessing ethanol/gas)? Do all gas stations have this as an option? Jim

Correct 87 octane but no ehtanol, higher energy content. Unfortunately onl a handful of stations offer it as an option and in most states it is not even offered. You can check where you are and if offered somewhere give it a shot. As to cost, yes 20 cents/gallon more so the break even point has to be calculated as well. If not enough of an increase in mpg then the cost obviously not worth it. On the other side well, I just like not have ethanol in the tank if I can help it.

I have spoken to Lincoln and they called back with their additional offer on the reduced EPA MPG. They will NOT accept the return of the car---already guessed that. In addition to the $1,050 payment, they offered a longer free basic maintenance including brakes, windshield wipers, oil changes, tire rotation and air filters. Since my dealership installed locking lug nuts that were not tightened as per the specifications, they will not touch this car. If I get wrapped rotors, they'll blame me! The dealership charges $70 for full synthetic oil, so NO to that--I'll change my own oil! They also offer a one payment refund if the car was financed for 5 years--car is paid for. Just not worth it as I have two other actions going. This will be my last FoMoCo car purchased by my family. I purchased my first new car in 1969--a 1970 Lincoln MARK III, then ten more new FoMoCo vehicles. Screw me once, shame on you, screw me twice, shame on me!

Got my check today. Very bummed about the mpg. I did have a Prius but I went to the mkz because of its comfy, stylish high gas mileage. Priuses are not comfy and definitely not stylish. There are so many on the road -- especially silver -- I almost got another Prius' speeding ticket by mistake (I was able to show the officer the dash - there is no way to do 80 and still get over 50 mpg for the last 15 minutes....) I wasn't keen on the car being a Lincoln, and I am still embarrassed by the brand - but now I am more so. Sigh - but all in all, I love the car and the color and I put up with it's unhappiness when parked in the sun too long. I talked my boyfriend's daughter out of getting a Nissan Versa for the Ford Fiesta a couple of months ago. Great. The Fiesta also had an overrated mpg. I feel like a sucker. I would have been better with the Lexus 300H - which now gets better mileage than the mkz and has a much nicer dealer service experience. My Ford dealer charges for coffee! Sheesh. What's weird is last summer they were reprogramming the car to get higher mileage....I never saw a difference. I have 43.5 life - not bad but I still feel cheated.

I appreciate the check. Lexus once gave out checks because the tires on the cars weren't as good as they thought Lexus deserved. That felt better than this check does.

I guess I'll go and see what gift I should get too...I don't have an Ipad and don't live where there's a Capital Grille. I guess it's down to the sunglasses. You'd think there would be some Lincoln accessory that could be useful....Thank god the car looks good!

My sister has a '13 Lexus ES300H. She gets no where near the advertised MPG. She is lucky to average around 30 in mixed driving.

You feel cheated by 43.5 MPG?!?!?! Wow! That's all I can say is... WOW!

When i calculate actual MPG by dividing trip meter miles by the gas pump gallons, I have NEVER ONCE achieved the MPG reported by my trip computer.

I don't mind that the car doesn't get 45MPG (or now 38city 37 hwy mpg)... I just want it to tell me accurate MPGs!!!

Many people report getting 2-3mpg lower than the dash reported average... i usually get ~7mpg less than the dash reports... mind you my lifetime brake score is 95% so I am driving the hybrid as it should be driven.
My dealer suggested resetting the average MPG (Hold OK button of left of steering wheel) which has not helped.

SO FRUSTRATING!!!

There is no doubt that this is one of the nicest styled cars in the marketplace today . A lot of us bought the MKZ for both reasons - MPG & Style. I drive normal and have a lifetime currently of 35.1 which will improve on my next road trip since it jumps to around 37-38 average on long highway runs. I also have concerns in regards to the AC issue ( smell and very inefficient) headliner issue ( spots from the adhesive bleeding though) and seat issues ( recall ). I have all 3 of these in various degrees. As I said in previous posts I love the technology of the car and the styling and the MPG is not really horrible but certainly not as advertised hence the refund check which I received . I took the dinner gift. The real question that Lincoln wants to know is will I buy another Lincoln or MKZ. Time will tell . I have been a loyal Lexus owner for many years because of their integrity and service. I love the pick up and delivery service that Lexus has. I am still not comfortable with the service of the Lincoln brand. Have any of you tried premium gas to see if your MPG improved??? I may try that. The summer heat in Florida kills the gas mileage.

Very odd it is so far off. Like others, my actual is 1-2 MPG lower than the dash. Typically, the dash says 44-45 MPG and calculated comes out to 42-43 MPG.

My last 10 tank-fulls have ranged from 41.34-44.78 MPG. Lifetime of 13,000 miles is 42.03 MPG. Most of my driving is on roads in the 45-65 MPH range. I am going on a 1,800 mile trip later this summer and expect my mileage to be much less with 75+ MPH for several days.

One thing I saw mentioned in another thread somewhere is that if you use remote start a lot, that tends to inflate the dash MPG. Remote start forces the AC on, which forces the gas engine on, but you are not moving. I am sure there is logic in that, but it escapes me this morning!

Sigh... I read this thread and smiled all the way through. I recently posted the following on another forum and thought of it after reading this.

The futility of chasing MPG...

So after listening to a certain someone complain about buying gas (again) wishing they had a more fuel efficient daily driver, I decided to freshen up my math and show how irrational it was to lust after a car with unicorn like fuel mileage.

Subject #1: A 2006 Lincoln Town Car purportedly showing an overall fuel mileage of 19 mpg (mixed driving).

Subject #2: A "new" 2014 Prius, chosen solely for the uber fuel mileage rating of 50 mpg.

Wow, at first thought it would seem a no brainer... with over 2-1/2 times the fuel mileage, surely it wouldn't take long to pay for it and come out ahead of the game. Lets see...

Let's just say the Town Car is used as a trade in (LOL) on said Prius. With a generous trade-in value of $12,000 one can buy the $25,000 Prius for the difference of $13,000 (taxes and fees excluded of course). So the basis of our comparison is how long will it take to 'pay back' the investment and begin reaping rewards of hyper-mileage in the spanky new gas sipping Prius.

Using an average fuel price of $3.89 per gallon, it costs a shade over 20 cents per mile in the Town Car and a just under 8 cents per mile in the Prius for a difference of 12.7 cents per mile in fuel savings. The $13,000 difference in capital costs would only take...

102,413 miles to pay back.

After that it's money in the bank!

We still have the Town Car. It has 67,000 miles and has needed very little maintenance. Even at the paltry 19 mpg, I feel very satisfied.

That's what I call money in the bank. ;)

Well to be fair the comparison is much more relevant when the time comes that you actually need a new car. Do you buy another 19mpg car or one with 50mpg? Personally I hate the Prius so I would never choose that!

American Luxury stated it correctly... i didn't buy the MKZ Hybrid because it was a hybrid. i bought it because i was shopping for a new car anyway AND the hybrid was the same price as the non-hybrid, so any savings from the improved MPG goes to my pocket...

I cannot seem to find any acknowledgement of whether cashing this $1,050 check releases our ability to join a class action lawsuit in the future related to this false advertising. Has anyone been able to confirm this?

I have the 2012 and if I use 100% gas, no ethanol, I can average around 42 mpg, with 10% ethanol down to 38-39.

I guess I will chime in after hearing so many different takes on the 2013-14 Z-bred. My last three gas ups have averaged 41 - 43 mpg by miles divided by gals.,very close to the trip mpg showing on the trip computer, maybe not right on but close enough. I mentioned the 1000.00 check to others, and they were VERY surprised that a car manufacturer did this in this day and age. My cousin (2012 Lexis 350) could not get over the great styling of the MKZ,when I told him that it was a hybrid he was really impressed. At 18,000 miles I have no issues at all with the car,I realize that this could be just luck, but I am enjoying this car the more I drive it,and I drive on major northeastern highways in great comfort and for long drives ( 250 + ). So I thought the check was just a pleasant surprise for something that I am very satisfied with ( mpg ). I still have my 2007 Honda accord 4 cyl. that was sold to me as a 34 mpg car (sticker), and my highway is 30 - 31,combined city/highway probably is around 28, and they never sent a check! Jim 2013 MKZh

I wish mine were that close. This summer in Florida I have been having a hard time getting in the low 30 MPG range. My lifetime has dropped to 34.8 . I drive a lot of short stop and go trips. I am hoping Winter will improve the numbers. When I go on the interstate at 70-75 I almost always get about 38 MPG.

I live in the country so most trips are 10 miles or over,my ave. speed on my 500 round trip to Phila. Pa from Mass. is 63 - 73 mph. On the 75 mph highways the state police will not stop you at 73 mph. and on the 65 mph highways they allow you up to 63 mph. I notice better mpg on the summer gas , 40 - 43 ,but in winter 37 - 41 mpg. No it is not the 45 mpg advertized , but we have to understand that all car manufacturers inflate their mpg numbers , but Lincoln is the only one that I have ever heard that sent out checks in compensation. The bottom line is are you satisfied with the car OVERALL , if not all you can really do is to buy a different one next time, Jim , 2013 MKZh

Finally took a 80 mile highway /mixed road trip today . 73 MPH on highway (40 miles worth of highway speeds) and mixed speeds of 40-65 MPH with some traffic lights and stop & go on the 40 mile balance. Averaged 38.5 which is right on target for my vehicle. Heading on the 12,000 mile mark.
