Hi Rasherms00. Okay…here is one example. We can alter the small details in related ways for the same result:I'll bite. How can it happen (unless the key or phone is left in the car as described above)?
First, keep in mind that the mirrors do not unfold until the vehicle is unlocked, the driver door is opened and then closed.
So…here is one example. We get out of our vehicle and lock it. The mirrors fold. We walk away.
At some/any point later on, we decide to go out to the vehicle to drive away. Or maybe just get something out of the vehicle.
We use the key fob to unlock it from the house, a store, or even as we are walking up to it. Or use the LincolnWay app etc. to unlock it. Or place our hand on the unlock sensor, but don’t actually pull the handle to open the door.
The vehicle is now unlocked. Mirrors still folded.
However, before we go out to the vehicle, or before we walk up to it and open the door, or before we actually pull the door handle to open the door, our attention is diverted and we go back into the house/store etc. to get something. Or just don’t open the door. For whatever reason.
Our attention is diverted, we don’t go back out to the vehicle for whatever reason. We forget we unlocked the vehicle, so we don’t lock it with the fob, PAAK, LincolnWay app etc.
The vehicle is now unlocked and the mirrors are still folded, because the driver door was never opened and subsequently closed.
So the vehicle is now sitting there, unlocked, with the mirrors still folded.
That is one example, detailing various scenarios how it could happen.
Add to that scenario this one: Having the unlock button accidentally pressed while in our pocket, in a pocketbook etc.
No one realizes it. No one opened the drivers door. We look out the window or across a parking lot, see folded mirrors, think the vehicle is locked but it’s not.
Are these scenarios likely to happen often to most drivers. No, not likely. But they can and have happened. So it is just good to know and keep in mind it can happen and we should keep in mind that folded mirrors are not a 100% guaranteed signal that the vehicle is locked.
Of course, if we have any doubt, we can avoid all this by just using the key fob, PAAK or LincolnWay app to ensure the doors are locked.
Hope that is written somewhat understandably.
Good luck.
