Thats what those lanes were for? I never knew that.
they have little motorcycle lanes? cool! Up here the bikers just go on the shoulder to pass traffic. I don\'t blame them for doing that though, I\'d do it too. As long as you don\'t end up passing a cop :whoa:
Yea, not exactly. I was being sarcastic. April, I don\'t know when you escaped from here, but for Steve and anyone else that doesn\'t know, the HOV lane is only separated from the main lanes by a double dotted white line. The two lines are spaced about 2\' apart, just wide enough for a bike to use when the traffic is barely moving. It\'s not an \"official\" lane of any sort, and lane splitting IS illegal in Florida, although its generally ignored in traffic jams or at a light. If you pull in front of the pack at a light, it\'s not nice, but there is a VERY good reason: If you are in front of traffic, then they can SEE YOU, and you aren\'t at risk of being rear-ended at the back of the pack.

But that doesn\'t mean ignorant cage drivers know the reason, and they are jealous that you can move through the traffic of a jam or \"jump the line\" at a light.

Coming up behind a bike at a light I find myself leaving about two car lengths in between myself and the bikes. That way if I get rear ended by some dumbass that\'s not paying attention then I have a better chance of not hitting the guys on the bikes.

I also find myself blocking people from cutting semis off coming to a red light.

Only 2003. I asked my dad what they were for and he said it was the bicycle lane. Yeah...hes a smart ass too. I didnt think they were for bikes...of any kind but went with it anyway. :D

And IMO...bikes who cut to the front of the line are asking for a door to take with them. One of my biggest pet peeves.

I usually stop if a semi/dump truck/heavy machinery is trying to get in a lane on on the street period...I guess because I saw my Dad have a hard time doing it when he was on job sites. Yes...Ill let heavy machinery get in front of me before Ill let a bike do it.

I let the trucks in too, as I know what other drivers are like from driving the RV. Although with the RV, I tend to take the attitude of \"I\'m bigger, I\'m coming in, deal with it.\"

On the \"jumping the line\" concept, I have had one annoying woman yell at me and cut me off with her car, demanding that I go back (on a one-lane road) to the back of the line. I just smiled at her and went in front of the car in front of her, and waved politely.

I would run your ass off the road. You\'re just asking to get hit, quit your bitching about people not looking out for you.

If I\'m riding a motorcycle, I have a responsibility to my own safety to do what I can to maximize my own visibility. If that means placing a car between myself and approaching traffic, then yes, I will do that. If I take the front position at a light, what am I going to cost the second person? half a second? Its for safety.

It has nothing to do with time. It has to do with being courteous

sorry , repost ignore this post
And I\'m going to \"courteously\" not damage the dumbfuck\'s car when he doesn\'t see me and rear ends me, by not being there in the first place.
So, to counteract this you drive the bike between lanes and on the shoulders in the name of your safety? How do you fit the helmet up your ass?

I never said I ride on the shoulder. I also don\'t do wheelies in traffic on the highway, or ride at 140mph on the highway weaving in and out of traffic.

Now that we have established that, let me be clear again: I only will lane split with cars that are STOPPED or moving at 15mph or less. That is what lane splitting is supposed to be, and it is legal in many states, like California.

Oh, and I don\'t expect ANYONE to look out for me, EXCEPT me. That\'s the reality of the roads today, everyone is in their own little isolated world, and just doing their thing without ever looking for ANY other vehicles out there, all while yammering away on those damn phones.

I always look for the DUMBEST thing for any other driver to do, and plan for it. The other drivers will USUALLY DO that \"dumbest thing\" so if I plan ahead, I\'m safe. I really don\'t care if they want to endanger themselves, but I will try to avoid them endangering me.

Youre following someone in an area that is NOT a lane all to be \"courteous\"? And pushing yourself to the front of a line...is NOT being courteous. And you as well as we ALL know that YOU would be the first one to bitch if you WERENT on a bike and someone else did that and made you second in line.

Sorry...its still a pet peeve of mine and I will be one of the drivers not seeing it as being courteous...doing 140 or wheelies or not...and deliver my door to you on your way down the lane.
