I was considering putting my Genius5 in the engine bay. I checked, and NOCO says not to do that. They say the unit is not built to withstand the vibration and heat in an automobile. I installed a charger in the motorcoach for the chassis battery. I used it for years without a problem, nonetheless, they say no. I did find, coincidentally, that NOCO makes a unit called the Genius 2D that can be installed in the engine bay. Has anyone installed one and if so, how long ago and is it working fine for you? I noted that the 2D is only a two-amp charger.

Well I did it. I will say there is very little usable space under the hood of my Hybrid. I tried or tested a few places I thought might work but soon gave up on each spot I tried. I almost threw in the towel when my eye caught a small spot on the core support. I did some poking around and found I could get it in there. I used zip ties, so no drilling. I'll attach some pics in case anyone wants to know more. Oddly when I was at the dealer for something else, I asked about the charger and if that might be an issue regarding the warranty from Lincoln. She said no, not at all and added that she wished more customers would install battery tenders. Apparently, they are seeing drained batteries regularly. Leaving keys close enough to the car to have constant contact is one of the problems she mentioned. A faraday box solved that for me.
