So, after having the vehicle back for a week post-update. I'm inclined to say I'm happy with it. All of the bugs that effected me regularly are gone. I feel inclined to say I don't have any real expectations on future releases per-se, they'd be nice, sure. But, I purchased this vehicle because I liked it for what it was, not what I'd hope it would become, software-wise. Now that the usability issues are gone for me, if I could only iron out a few rattles here and there... and that darn vibration.

Yesterday (Fri Oct 11, 2024) I got my 2024 Nautilus Black Label back from my Lincoln Service. They updated the Infotainment system (APIM) with the big update, and they also reprogrammed the left and right side light modules for that problem about the front "welcome/hello lighting" coming on spontaneously after 30 to 60 minutes of the car being shut off and locked (see separate posting on that).

I know others have put a summary of what was done online, and mine is another....albeit with screen caps to illustrate most of the changes.

One thing I found out that should be done after you take the car back from the dealer after the update has been applied, is to do a system reboot (press and hold center volume knob for 10 seconds or a little longer). Once the reboot is done, then the update "settles in nicely". Before I did the reboot I had "weird glitches" happening: CarPlay voice prompts (reading texts, asking questions, etc) were all choppy/garbled and could not be understood; Auto Start/Stop button would not Illuminate when Auto Start/Stop was deactivated (I *HATE* that function... just a personal note); maps would not display correctly, etc. Once Rebooted ALL those problems I mentioned went away and my system responded to inputs MUCH faster, including activating functions such as Blue Cruise.

OK.. before I get into the changes, please Note that the Update done at the dealer can take up to 3.3 HOURS to complete! Yes, you read that correctly, HOURS. This is because of the complexity of this major update, and that their systems apply it SLOWLY to try and prevent failed installs (scroll up to see peoples stories about that). This update CANNOT be applied by the Mobile Service Van Team because of its complexity and must be installed at the dealer's service department.

CHANGES:
1. Reboot--- When rebooting the system (holding down center volume knob for 10 seconds or longer now does *NOT* have that annoying speaker POP. Instead, it's a silent reboot... just like it always should have been.

2. Blinker sound--- when activating your directional (blinker) the sound is different. Not so much louder as it is a change in pitch to allow you to hear it more clearly.

3. Drive Mode---- when selecting Drive Mode, the on screen buttons and fonts are much bigger and the globe graphic has changed to what I would call a more "aggressive" look:

4. Outside Temperature Widget--- the font has been changed on the outside Temperature, but the same for the temps for upcoming hours of the day. Font is thinner (old one was bold):

5. Tachometer in "Excite" Mode AND Speed Limit sign change---- Tachometer is more "aggressive" and has a tail on it. Old one was more static looking. Picture below does not capture the full animation of the "tail" because it's a static picture instead of a video.. Speed limit sign has different font for easier reading:

6. Left Steering wheel button icons---- the iconography of the left buttons has changed to be clearer for the primary functions (Set and Resume/Cancel), and the icons for turning ON/OFF cruise control (top right) and for activating lane change/BC (lower right) have slightly changed in appearance BUT noticeably have different colors to stand out:

7. Right steering wheel button icons and new background colors of messages that appear---- The right side buttons on the steering wheel also have different iconography on them, as well as colors, to highlight key functions AND the background color of messages has changed significantly to stand out. The more important the messgage the more intense the color (burnt orange for info/gentle warning messages; intense RED for Important Warnings). (also the "place hands on wheel" graphic changed, but I don't have a pic of that. Here are the right side changes:

8. Display Coolant Temperature selection--- Most perplexing to me personally, is the addition of allowing you through Settings to toggle on or off the Coolant Display icon at the top of the screen that is horizontal. I guess some people don't want to see it:

[In case any were wondering, my Oil Life is at 100% because while my 24 Nautilus Black Label was in for the Infotainment update, it was also there for its 10,000 mile service (I ordered it in late Dec 2023; delivered and took possession on April 30, 2024).]

The rest of the changes to the system are "behind the scenes". Mostly increased response to inputs. Other graphic changes, like the Radio antenna looking icon (AM/FM) has color. Different displays for SiriusXM, etc. Another change is that when you are driving and turn up the volume for map prompts, etc., the new setting will "stick" and not revert back to the default.

If I notice any more changes worth noting, I will UPDATE/EDIT this posting.

UPDATE/EDIT- Sat Oct 12, 2024–. Tonight, Sat Oct 12, the audio from Messaging in CarPlay started getting garbled again , and the Auto Start/Stop LED started acting up. I had to do a reboot. I hope this does not become a recurring event!

Seems that way to me as well. Maybe it’s because they fixed the dimming issue when you put the vehicle in reverse. I haven’t seen the dimming since I had the update applied.

It just may have. I didn’t notice it. What I am really glad about is that the display staying dim unless you manually raise it problem has been resolved.

I got the Google update yesterday - the system settings confirms it completed/installed, but I haven't gotten a notification in the Lincoln Way app (yet). One thing I did notice was that when I parked the afternoon before, I was on an FM station. When I got in yesterday morning it was tuned to AM 560? (540? whatever the lowest AM frequency is).

Perhaps FoMoCo is learning that they need to handle SW updates better overall, is improving the protocol used for the updates (better error checking).

Chatting with Haz he mentioned "Ford has recently paused several vehicle lines' software-related Field Service Actions due to unanticipated outcomes after the initial update's rollout." (Lincoln isn't alone in having had funky rollouts)

I think it is important to be clear on what updates are being received. Some recent purchasers are just getting updates from months back.

I can commiserate, but it's not clear to me what is getting pushed based upon what is being communicated and what I see and understand. And I'm a software engineer. I'm open to suggestions.

It feels like you're coming down on me, and your feedback would be better placed on Lincoln.

I was just interested in clarity after your shrug as if it did not matter. Maybe I misinterpreted that.

The latest OTA update was the ECG module. I did a google search looking for what module this was and found this so it is a gateway module update. 24B54 includes a GWM (Gateway Module) update as referenced in CSP. If someone who has received 24B54 and got the notification after, then it is a later version.

Ford usage:

I supposedly have the GWM update from 24B54 but not the rest due to the USB key with APIM code was not recognized. The dealer stopped to prevent a possible bricking the car. I will wait a couple weeks when I can leave it overnight. From what I can tell, the firmware has to be downloaded and the then loaded on USB all while the Nautius is connected to the computer running the Ford software.

It sounds like a really weak firmware update paradigm. With decent laptops, and large USB drives, dealers should be able to DL all applicable firmware for a given vehicle ahead of time, then the update software should pick off the proper files from the full set of images stored locally.

A 2TB rugged, fast, major brand, SSD USB drive is under $200 nowadays. Get one for each vehicle model, plus a pair of decent PCs with good high capacity drives. Update them nightly to pull any new images. The USB drives are for a mobile tech to use, the PCs stay at the dealer, for staff to use on in-house updates (pulling the firmware over the dealer's local network, not connecting to the main FoMoCo site every time they need firmware).

(It's fine to have the dealer computers check against FoMoCo as to which firmware updates are to be applied, and report the updates complete back, but they shouldn't have to keep downloading firmware.)

It's not rocket science.

Yesterday I picked up my Reserve II Hybrid where they replaced the front rotors and so far after 1 hour of driving I have not noticed any noice. Also the 24B54 SW updated and associated GWM, APIM and TCU all brought up to current. I noticed all the things you referenced above.

Question, I still have the issue where, when using Apple Car Play the volume setting is not persistent. I thought this was resolved earlier but it seems to be back. When Siri speaks to me it almost always seems to be at setting 6 or 7. I immediately turn it down to 4 (while Siri is speaking) but next time Siri speaks it’s back to 7.

Any thoughts or advice. I have set the volume setting to minimum.

I have the exact same issue with the Google maps navigation voice when giving directions. I set it to 3 and it always comes back to 6 each time. Very annoying! I have tried setting the prompt volume level in settings as well but it didn’t work.

The 24B54 update apparently succeeded on my car today. Eight days in the dealership. I will get the car back in the morning as I was not available to get it today. Per my advisor, Lincoln Engineering tweaked the update program to get passed whatever was tripping it up on my car. No specifics though.

8 days seems way to long. My dealer did the update in less than 5 hours

It would depend on how quickly Lincoln got back with the dealer when reporting an update issue. They are probably swamped and every fail may not be the same problem. The dealer I visited said it can take 2 to 3 days to get a workaround for any issue.

Given all complaints here and on FB, I am surprised that Lincoln has not put the CSP on hold even if they believe is the dealer is causing it due to improper procedure. What is Lincoln doing for those that reported new issues - like mirrors not folding, etc?
