Curious? When do you get your oil change? Notification? or Before?

My Lincoln
2024/Nautilus II
2024 Nautilus owner; curious; when do you get your oil change, when the car tells you or when it reaches a certain percentage? Mine is at 21% now, deciding if I should schedule appointment.

I usually do it at 7500 miles or 1 year. The last change showed 20% oil life remaining. I use full synthetic.

I've been doing every 7500 miles which works out to be every 10-11 months for me. The monitor is usually in the 20-25% range at that point. It seems to be oriented toward a 10k service schedule.

For my wife's car (e.g., the Nautilus) I'm currently doing it every 5K. But our mileage is pretty low these days so that can be close to a year. Back when we worked, (and I did the changes), I would do it every Spring and Fall, when the weather was nice.

Hi simba007. In my opinion, it all depends on whether the IOLM percentage reading is due to time or mileage. What is your average annual driving mileage? How many miles on your Naitilus now … or since your last oil change?

The max OCI is 1 year/10,000 miles. In my case, I average ~4,500 miles per year. So I plan my changes around the 11 1/2 month point.
However, if I drove more miles per year, I would probably change at ~7,500 miles or sooner.

Again, just my personal opinion.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Got my 2021 used with 45k-ish miles. It had oil changwes every 7-9k, which I view as inadequate for a DI, Turbo car. So every 6 months/5k for me, whichever is first, and I switched to Valvoline Restore and Protect in my '21 2.0. It is full syn and meets the exact Ford spec. I used conv 5w30 in my 2005 Lexus LS430 for years, but have gotten more paranoid with Turbos, low-tension piston rings, and Direct Injection. so 91+ Top Tier gas, full synth oil, every 5k or so. Now I just need to drain-and-fill my trans when I hit 60k. I might even throw in a bottle of Techron for first time in my life. My LS430 in 21 years old with 170k miles, so every 6 months has certainly not hurt it, although that was with $40 oil changes until recently.

If you are using premium top tier fuel, I would not see a need for a fuel additive.

The Nautilus uses 6 qts of 5W-30 oil which now may be considered thick oil. The turbo Subaru we just got uses 0W-20 (cringe) with a 6K cycle. The Subaru worries me more. The Subaru is easy to change without needing to remove a shield and the filter is on top of engine.

i had mine done at the dealership at 7544 miles which was one year after purchase with the monitor showing 10 percent and had them do any service that was due, rotate tires update software etc. i plan on bringing the car in once a year for oil change and any service that is due. i expect to have 8000 miles yearly
