Can you lock yourself out of a 2023 Corsair - with the key inside??

My wife claims she was toweling of her Corsair at the carwash with the hatch open and the key inside. And she thinks she accidently hit the lock button. All four doors are then locked and hatch is still open- leaving the only way to unlock her car is to crawl through the hatch. Is that possible?

I’ve never found that out with my ‘24 GT…haven’t tried either. What I have done is when wiping my Corsair down with the key fob not on me and out of range I have activated the door locking feature due to having the My Lincoln app active on my cell phone.

Does your Corsair have the digital unlock function on the drivers door? If so…you can enter the code should you lock yourself out or use the My Lincoln app to do the same.

Yes and established the 5 digit code when the car was new. Wife never used it and forgot about it. There was another interesting thing that occurred. Before she realized she was locked out she tried to close the hatch -and it would only close halfway allowing her enough room to crawl in. Maybe some kind of safety measure that was built in??

Hi littleneil. Yes, she most likely accidentally pressed the exterior lock button located on the driver side door (or also the passenger side on some vehicles).

That would allow the vehicle to be locked with the keyfob located inside the vehicle.

This feature is described in the Owners Manual (or at least used to be). I use it once in a while, to lock my vehicle in situations like beach visits and similar outdoor activities, where I would rather not have to carry my keyfob with me.

Yes, she could have used the 5 digit code to unlock the driver door, instead of climbing in through the hatch. And my guess is that the hatch not closing is most likely an anti-lockout safety feature, as you surmised.

EDIT- On a related note: On my MKZ (not sure about newer models), the 7/8 and 9/0 simultaneous two button press can also be accidentally activated by the higher pressure stream of water from a water hose nozzle. Ask me how I know. 😉

Good luck.

So yes would be the answer, I put my keys inside the vehicle and used the handle to lock the vehicle. As long as you use your cell phone as a key, the vehicle will allowed the keys to be locked inside, while the phone is on your person.

heck I can n ot even press the drivers side door lock and get ot of the car and walk away with the drivers door unlocking because it senses the fob in my pocket

Hi DonL. Correct, because as you stated, if you were sitting in the vehicle with the keyfob in your pocket (or hand or wherever) when you pressed the lock button, the keyfob was still inside the vehicle. That’s all the sensors will “sense”.

However, you can press the interior lock button once you are standing outside the vehicle, before you close the door. The vehicle will (or should) stay locked then.

You may already know that, but figured I’d play it safe and mention it.

Good luck.

Out of decades of habit, I hit the lock button on the door of all of our vehicles as we are exiting. All of our other vehicles always locked, our Corsair will stay locked about 80% of the time, the other 20% of the time we'll here a double ding and the mirrors stay outward, telling me to hit the lock button on the remote as we walk away. I could never figure out way it usually locks, but not always when hitting the button on the door as I'm exiting. The little double ding and folding mirrors is a lifesaver for quick reference as I'm walking away.

hasn't worked for me. If I am standing at the drivers door it just re-unlocks

Hi DonL. Just to be clear … You are discussing this occurring while the keyfob is in your pocket/hand etc., not in your vehicle, correct?

If yes, then that is unusual. Of course, it is always possible something has been changed in more recent model years.

It may be a good idea to bring this to the attention of your Service Advisor when you can.

Keep us updated and good luck.

yes

and no, I am not looking for a $1000 "fix" and can wait to lock with fob once am 5' away from the drivers door

Hi DonL. Concerning a “…$1,000 fix…”, you came in halfway into this discussion with “littleneil”, so we have now had a bit of mission creep. So it was not obvious you had a 2021, which we can only now guess is out of warranty.

And yes, using the fob is the easy way to do things, which most people simply do from the beginning. No reason to reinvent the wheel. 😉

Happy to hear the issue is resolved (at least for you), and good luck.
