So i recently reserved a standard trim 2020 corsair from a third party dealer who's bought it from the ford/lincoln dealership directly (I've called and verified that the car is indeed brand new and purchased from them).
A few days ago i was there assessing the car. I pop open the hood and lo and behold the engine is without an appearance cover. The employees at the dealership claim they don't know how that is. I told them to open the hood of another 2020 standard corsair (which was already also sold) and i did infact see the cover there.
I did some digging around and saw some reviews on youtube. The 2021 corsairs (or at least some of the ones i saw reviews of) had no engine covers, yet aa of the 2020 reviews had them.
Any idea why this might be? I read on some forum somewhere that all corsairs produced after june 2020 came without the engine cover due to supply chain issues, but i wasn't able to verify that. If anyone has any idea/can point me to some official lincoln documentation as to why this may be, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks

Why would anyone want engine noise in the cabin of a luxury vehicle of this type? That's odd to me.
Not sure, you would have to ask those people. Enough people must like it that Lincoln enhances the sound of the engine through the speakers from what I have read on this forum. For that matter, why do people want to add horsepower and change out mufflers in luxury SUVs. This is certainly not a new concept, I don't think. I don't do it, but plenty of people do.

If I ever drove 2 Navigators in a blind test, one with and one without an engine cover, I'm not sure I would be able to tell which was which.

Hi easyrider. Yes I know what you mean. Some Dealers will tell us all sorts of things. Such as Lincoln requires an oil change every 3,000 miles, or 5,000 miles etc., in order to make more money on oil changes. So some will also tell us there is a "break-in oil", in order to to sell us a first oil change sooner than we really need it.

So just to avoid any confusion or contradiction for others: Our vehicles do not have a break-in oil from the factory. And that information is confirmed by Lincoln/Ford, in our Owners Manual (among other sources).

Keep in mind that most people come to forums like this to air their grievances. And it is the same with all makes and models of vehicles.
Very few owners seek out forums to just to say "I love my new vehicle!".
So while those complaining certainly have valid concerns, take some comfort in the fact that they are the minority as far as actual vehicle ownership.

Good luck with your Corsair!

Hello bbf2530,
I agree with you when you mention that those who are happy with their vehicle generally don't comment on the forums to boast all the positive aspects of their new ride, although that does occur from time to time.
I feel this is not commonly done because being relatively happy with a purchase, absent multiple issues, some with no recourse or fix readily available are all things generally expected when paying thousands upon thousands of dollars for a luxury automobile, No?.
Not to banter words here, so please don't misunderstand, I believe those who join the forums and express themselves to others do so for a two-fold purpose, one to vent the frustration they may be experiencing and have found no real empathy from their local dealer, either because the dealer is unable to help or merely doesn't feel the issue or concern to be substantial in their professional opinion.
Second, is to establish if other owners have also been experiencing the same sort of issues they themselves are having while at the same time hoping to possibly learn of a quick fix, or somewhere to turn for further info. and help.
Actually, there is yet another reason, that is in hopes that an official of Lincoln may be monitoring the forum and will read of these frustrated customers, and actually reach out to them to help correct the issue in some way, although I'm not so sure that will happen.
My experience in casting light of the most recent erratic shifting of the newer
(8-speed) transmission associated with some Lincoln vehicles and also confirmed by various dealers themselves, offers no real explanation or rectification to this major concern, aside from the advice to drive the vehicle carefully when applying the throttle. Ha! or as another here on the forum stated on another topic " It is what it is". That is simply a pathetic recourse/response.
In any regard, these instances are especially true when some Lincoln dealerships determine the customer's concern or issues can not be replicated, as is so often the case, not to say some owner concerns can be over-dramatized and fall short of genuine legitimacy.
However, having said that, you and I both know an owner's concerns are nonetheless very real to them and should be dealt with in short order, especially in light of how Lincoln has been wanting for years to establish itself as its own entity, separate of Ford Motor Co. lol
Yes, Lincoln's concierge and the forum boards are and will probably continue to be a sounding board to these events, but to what degree of success, who can say.

Regards,

You know what I find strange about this engine cover issue: I see that the cover is still included on the 22 Nautilus, which is one thing since it is a step up from the Corsair. However, I see that the cover is still included on the 22 Escape which is the Corsairs cheaper cousin. Not sure the rational behind this.

Well, it could have simply been a stupid covid supply issue. I'll be curious when 2022 Navs begin arriving at dealerships if they have the covers installed.

Ford has been deleting the covers on many models since before Covid.

Oh okay, well that makes the comment about the '22 Nautilus still having it even more curious.

I have a friend with a 19 ranger that doesn’t have the cover.
I hear ya. Ford/Lincoln seem to be very inconsistent in these things, so who knows what some of the 2022s will have. I texted my dealer to see if the 2022 Nav will have one. I doubt she will know, but all I can do is ask.

That's my point. Why delete it on the Corsair, and not the Focus?

Haha and that goes back to my point of Ford/Lincoln inconsistency. I joke, sort of, that it's whomever shows up to work at Ford/Lincoln the day(s) the decisions are made.

The bottom line is its cost cutting. Yes, it doesn't make sense that some Fords have a cover and other Lincoln's may have the cover but it is what it is and a joke.
There is also Sync 4 with the Edge.

Ford Mustangs have engine covers. But they cost-cut by having only hood props, not pneumatic lifts. Silly, on cars that can cost into the $60k's and more.
They don't seem to feel that covers overheat the high-revving engines, which produce 460 hp and up.

Just installed the cover on my 22. Super easy. Took longer to find the proper socket. Thanks to those who did the homework to search and list the appropriate parts.

If anyone really thinks that, look at posts # 216 and 192 side by side,
You must feel like a dad pacing the maternity ward!

The GT engine is impressive looking. Just looks like a guy wearing a tux but without a tie...View attachment 12372
I've ordered the old MKZ (2.5L hybrid) engine cover and we'll see if it fits. Worth a shot and only risking $10-20 for return shipping if I'm wrong.
