2005 Ed Taylor edition?

I am considering picking this up, but cannot find anything about this trim level. This vehicle is in another province and thus I cannot view it in person. The on line shots of the interior and exterior look very good. It is at 138K Km. If I get the seller to take it in to a dealer ship what should I get them to look for other than a general inspection??

Any advice I can get would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John. It is not a Lincoln/Ford factory trim level or special edition. That is simply some sort of Dealer created "Special Edition". There are thousands of such "Special Editions' floating around that were created by individual Dealerships over the years. Just the fact that there are Lincoln and Mercury logos on the plate tell us that it was not some sort of official Lincoln Special Edition. A true factory "Special Edition" Lincoln would never use the Mercury logo.

I Googled "Lincoln Ed Taylor edition" and came up with this: BALDO BUYS ED TAYLOR LINCOLN MERCURY

Seems there was an Ed Taylor Lincoln Mercury back in the 70's to 2002 in upstate NY.
Taking a guess here...Perhaps the new owner of the Dealership put plaques on a few Lincolns to honor Ed after he bought the Dealership from him. Or maybe Ed Taylor put a lot of plaques on cars he owned. Like smiley stickers.

If you are thinking about purchasing it, just be sure to have the usual used car inspection performed, and take the same due diligence as with any used car. Perhaps even more, if you are buying it sight unseen and trusting the seller to get an inspection.

The CarFax for this vehicle shows that it was a US car that was imported into Canada. The earliest service record shows a "Steve Baldo Mercury Lincoln" in Amherst, New York in 2005 for a pre-delivery inspection. After reviewing the listing again it is a "Signature Limited" at 113K Km's. Have asked for chassis pics, ad claims stored every winter.

It looks even better with the pics of the interior. Just have to figure out how to get it inspected by an independant source before committing money. Right now I'm 1,100 miles and three provinces away, trying to negotiate over the interweb! LOL

Keep in mind that the Signature Series in 2005 was the base model. It may be lacking in some options.

Sorry my fellow TOwn Car cultist I bought this car this week. I am in St Catharines ON and it was a half hour away from my home. It is super clean, undercarriage is 9/10 no rust under the doors and drives true and straight. I pick it up tomorrow.

I will be driving this as a pleasure vehicle using my 06 Sig Ltd as my daily.

As I had said I bought this car this week. It is NOT a base model in anyway. It was a rare trim package only available in the 2004 & 2005 model years. 2004 it was an Ultimate Limited and 2005 Signature Limited. It has every option available including the THX sound system which is mind blowing compared to the Mark Sound systems that came with most models.

The Ed Taylor badge is related to a specific dealership and isn't a factory package. My guess is that some of these option packages that ended up on lots were probably sold as an exclusive car in the sense that there were probably limited production numbers and considered a unique model compared to other lot cars. I say that because if you have a look at the 2004 Ultimate Ltd on YouTube you can also see a dealer logo on the same area of the trunk.

I drive a 2006 Sig Ltd as my daily and this car will be used as a pleasure vehicle.

Congratulations! It was a very slim chance that I would have bought this even though it looked like a superb vehicle.

I was looking at trying to get an independent appraisal as I was not going to be able to view in person (nor test drive it) and then would have to arrange for shipping to Nova Scotia.
There were just too many unknowns for me to go through with this.

That being said, I really believe that you should have contacted me when you inspected it and told me it was as every bit as nice as it appeared and that I should immediately buy it before you!! LOL

There's a 2003 Cartier on Kijiji in Windsor with only 48K kms but I haven't seen it. I contacted him but got a bad vibe. Asking way too much at $10500. But if I do see something here I will post it for you. You can find good Town Cars in Canada if they were snow bird cars but it's tough now with covid. I will post some pics of it over the weekend as I pick it up tomorrow. It needs a good clean and I have to figure out what to do with the bubbling chrome on the B pillar. A few little things but it's a good clean car and fully loaded. If you are willing to pay top $$$ you should contact Specialty Motors in New Hampshire and follow them on YouTube. American $$$ and have to get it across the border but he finds really nice cars and loves last gen Town Cars.

Thanks for the info on the car. I will print off a copy of this thread for my records. Just as a FYI.....the car is being well looked after, and will only be used as a pleasure vehicle from now on. It will be 20 years old next year and then could be designated as a classic.

I have done the Marty report on it and not a lot of info came back other than the trim level package was quite rare, only 379 made in 2005. An educated guess on the trim level package was that it was a dealer only package and sold as a somewhat exclusive trim package as a lot car. It was only sold for 2 years, 2004 & 05. In fact there isn't even a category for the "Limited" in the Kelly blue book from my guess anyway. When I bought the car it was being sold as a "Signature Limited" and it is not that, it is just a "Limited". I 2004 the top trim was the "Ultimate" but the dealer package with the two tone paint and interior was still the "Limited" and after the 05 model year that trim level option was no longer available. I wouldn't necessarily call a dealer add on a one off, but the fact it has that plaque on the dashboard calling it the Ed Taylor edition is the only one I am aware of unless you were aware Ed had another car designated as such.

Unfortunately I had to replace the chrome B pillars as they were bubbling and I could not find OE chrome anymore so I had to put on the black ones, but they were OE Ford. I have put a set of the thin whitewall Travelstars on it too as that is the only whitewall you can get now. I drive the car about 5000 kms a year and it now has about 125000 kms.

Yes you are correct but there was an extra option trim level called the "Limited" beyond the top trim for 2004 & 2005; Ultimate in 04 and Signature Ltd in 05. It was badged simply as "Limited" That trim level had the two tone paint, two tone interior and specific chrome rims Go to you tube and type in.....2004 lincoln town car Limited specialty motor cars and it will come up. You can see on the video it is badged "Limited". That is how I first learned about these trim levels. If you go to the 24:05 minute mark of the video you will see the original window sticker and it has a "Limited" option package for and additional $1595 on top of the listed "Ultimate" option.

I honestly do not know 100% if that was available at a consumer/retail level or it was a package offered to the dealerships only but it was definitely an extra option above and beyond the top trim package which that year was the Ultimate and in 2005, the car I have, it was the Sig Ltd. I would like to get that information confirmed in terms of whether or not it was a dealer only option or not but I will say in the 2 examples I have seen (the video and my car) both the cars had dealer badging on them which wasn't always the case by that point in time.

Thank you for this information it has helped out a lot! So it does appear that there was a Limited Edition package available for order that does incorporate the two tone paint and interior and specific chrome rims. It also answers my question of why the one on the YouTube vid did not have all the options that mine does. THe one on the YOuTUbe vid did not have a sunroof or a THX sound system and mine does. When you ordered the Limited edition package the C pillar badging just said "Limited" which in 2005 was kind of stupid and confusing because the top trim was Signature Limited but then another Limited option on top of that. This was back in the time you could actually pick your options as opposed to today where all cars are sold the same for whatever trim level you want. This brochure also explains why the production numbers are different for the options on my car from the Marti Report. It gets a bit confusing because the two paint was available on the non-Limited option pack but not the two tone interior. On the Marti report it shows 1352 with the two tone paint and 321 with the two tone interior which makes sense now because the two tone interior was in the Limited option pack but the two paint could be gotten in the Signature Limited.

Regardless these are rare Town Cars with around 400 made in 2005 in that option category. THanks again for the brochure!

We used to put tops and gold badges on them that said ‘Palm Beach Edition’. Folks loved going back up north and showing off. Then when it came time to trade they insisted it was a factory special edition. Ooops sorry. They knew.
