Blue Smoke On Startup

If it is normal, they should be able to show you others doing it, right?

If it truly is "blue" smoke, indicating oil. It would smell like it, right? Also, do you have oil consumption issues? If both, then yes, sounds like a problem, could be minor (some breather/pcv type system) or major (entire engine).
BUT, also, many times on cool humid mornings, water vapor steaming out the exhaust looks pretty dang similar to oil smoke, but is normal.

There have been several who have posted this problem over the last few months. I had a 2020 which occasionally had this problem. I took it to dealer once about it, but they couldn't find anything. I subsequently drove it for 20,000 miles or so without a problem.

6000 miles on 2022 Aviator. Blues smoke from exhaust after sitting that goes away after a few seconds. The longer it sits the more smoke bit it usually sits for a day. Dealer is changing the oil and said they will go from there. This doesnt seem like a solution to me. I am not accepting this as a solution. It is embarrassing to start up a 73k and blue smoke pours out!
My wife purchased a 2023 Aviator in Sept 2022 (writing now July 2023) that has these same symptoms - blue smoke on cold engine startup - more pronounced after sitting for a day or two.

SUV has 10,700 miles now - dealer oil changes at 5,000 and 10,000 miles - smoke started at ~9,500 miles.

Reported to the dealer - dealer was unable to replicate after a two day visit.

Have you found a resolution?

Thank you,

Scott

I had a 2020 which did same. Dealer couldn’t identify source. I have seen others on this Forum with same issue. I drove 20,000 miles after noticing and never had an issue.

Thanks for the response! Has it resolved or still smoking?

I noticed it when it probably had 5,000 miles. It was only occasionally. I traded at 28,000 miles and don’t remember seeing it when I traded. It seemed to have gone away.

Welcome to the Forum Riley. 👋
I have a 2020 and have never noticed that issue.
This same issue has also been reported with the Explorer ST on the Explorer and the Explorer ST forums. Several posts mentioned it was fixed by replacing the driver's side turbo.

I've never noticed it, but since I have a PHEV, I'm NEVER around the back when it is "Started" typically IF the engine starts, it is pulling away from some intersection after being miles from home. (Unless I start off in Excite, well, because it is there), but still, can't remote start the ICE when outside to see the exhaust anyway.

Having reported mine doesn't have the issue that I've noticed, I will try remote starting it to see for sure.

I have a 2020 with the same problem brought it to the dealer the said they never saw smoke took it home two weeks later the next morning started it smoke comes pouring out the tailpipe and every day after I’m wondering weather they even started it at all any solutions yet?

i purchased a 2020 Lincoln aviator in January with 17000 miles love the car however recently I’ve noticed smoke from the exhaust on starting the next day brought it to dealer shop they kept it for two weeks I called them several times to get the outcome they said it never smoked when started it i picked it up and every time I started it it smoked I videoed it each day has this happened to anyone else

Or leave it at the dealer overnight and tell them you want a tech there when they open and show up with them to do the start and recreate the issue.

Same issue. This is the fourth time in the shop. They did change the turbo out because I brought it in for smoke, but it continued after the repair. It’s been in the shop for four weeks now. They were finally able to replicate the smoke so they’ve seen it outside of my videos.

Update - they have called Lincoln tech support because the tech is stumped as to where the smoke is coming from.

I have a 2023 Lincoln Aviator that has just started the blue smoke on cold start but not every time. Has anyone found a solution? I have it scheduled for service in a week. Reading these I’m thinking if they can’t recreate it it’s going to be a useless visit.
