Looking at moving up from a '21 Subaru Ascent Touring and considering an Aviator Reserve or Hyundai Palisade Calligraphy and have several questions

Have lots to read to figure everything out but I'm impressed with how intuitive the main layout is (although it did take awhile before I found the cruise control/lka cancel buttons on the right side of steering wheel).

A few things I'm going to have to dig into are the lane keeping assist and the best daily driving mode. LKA pulls a little too close to the lines for my liking, so going to see if there are ways to tweak that, and the cornering on non-banked back roads seems to be a bit loose. I was driving in Conserve mode. Does the cornering improve with a different mode?

Congratulations and I'm sure you'll love the vehicle.

Not to be nit-picky - but just to clarify - remember LKA (called Lane Keeping System in the manual) and lane Centering are two different functions (I believe lane Centering turns on LKA as well). The lower right button is the lane centering feature. LKA is on the tip of the left turn stalk.

I find my centering is biased a touch to the left; it gets a little closer to the left lane divider than I'd prefer. When I had my sensors recalibrated for the replacement windshield I had to have installed, I asked about adjustments. The service writer advised me they simply hook up to the computer (I assume with some special wall board in front of the vehicle or other calibration image somewhere in front of the sensors). From there the computer does everything. According to her there is no tech input to correct/bias/alter the sensors/response. If you find differently, please advise.

I have not experimented with driving modes to see if it enhances/detunes keeping or centering. Please let us know if you happen to determine it does.

Thanks for the reminder. You're corrrct. I was talking about the centering. I think some of the issue may be that our roads frquently run out of right curb lane markers. Sometimes the centering stays on and figures it out. I know that sounds a bit strange, but I'm trying to pay a bit more attention to where it seems to hug the center a bit more. Lots to learn with this vehicle, but I'm loving it so far.

Hi PattyT and welcome to the Lincoln Forums. Regarding the seats: It is entirely possible that a previous test driver used the seat adjustment controls to adjust the seat in a way that would be uncomfortable for you. So if you did not previously do so, be sure to use the seat controls to "relax"/widen out the seat first, then adjust it to your liking.

And regarding the transmission: The Owners Manual states it can take the Adaptive Shifting Strategy of the transmission at least several hundred miles to adjust to your driving environment. So shifting will improve with use.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.
Thx for the comment about the seats - that made a difference in comfort. I've got about 700 miles on the new car but I have noticed the shifting seems less noticeable.

What was the ultimate reason you went this decision?
If that was for me, I really loved the looks of the Aviator and when I found one that had all the bells and whistles I wanted and a dealer that wasn't going to jerk me around, I just pulled the trigger. I'd been thinking about this and looking at various cars for the last 7 months and the Aviator was the only one that really checked all the boxes, including being made in America. And now that I've had it for 2 weeks I'm really happy-especially loving the Revel sound system. Bottom line...I just wanted a beautiful vehicle with all the safety systems and no sense of having to compromise between comfort and day-to-day workhorse.

As I remember reading the technical literature - for Lane Centering to function it must see both a left and right land divider. If yours is intermittent AND your roads have sections where either left or right lane dividers are not reasonably recognizable, that may be what you're experiencing.

BTW, interesting tidbit from the dealer. He mentioned that we probably got one of the last aviators with the luxury pkg for awhile because there's a shortage of the component needed for the massaging seats. Unlike the component issue with the liftgate that we're getting a credit for and a hope for a future fix, it seems any vehicle ordered with the luxury pkg is getting held up waiting for the component. Not sure if anyone's heard that or not or how true it might be, but thought I'd pass it along.

Congrats on your new purchase. I am coming out of a Volvo XC90 and looked at a lot of vehicles before settling on an Aviator.

I sincerely hope your dealer is full of crap and said that only to incentivize you to buy your Aviator. I have a '23 Reserve on order and the massage chairs were one of the reasons we wanted it. If that is the case, I would seriously consider not taking delivery. Literally, my wife "approved" of the upgrade cost to the Reserve specifically for the massage feature. Not gonna have that conversation. Based on the ridiculous $55 credit they offer for no hands-free lift gate, I suspect all they'd knock of the sticker would be $100 for the massage chair feature that can not be added later. Sigh.

My order placed on October 31st shows the 30-way massage seats are included.

Peter, how are you seeing that? I placed my order a day earlier and only have the sales order, which only shows the luxury group not specifically the "30-way Massage seats".
It's shown on the Preview Order my salesman printed for me just before entering the actual order.

Hi BL. Ask your Salesperson, or the Sales Manager if necessary, for a copy of the Vehicle Order Confirmation (VOC).
Also ask if the Dealer Order Receipt Acknowledgement (DORA) is available yet. It should be at this point, two and a half weeks later.

If you can, I would recommend you stop by and ask, as opposed to calling, texting, emailing etc. It is harder for someone to ignore, spin, stall and misdirect when you are face to face with them.

Keep us updated and good luck.

Lol, ok found them on my Preview Order as well. I didn't translate the abbreviation well.

However, per the web-site it refers to them as "PERFect POSition Seats (30-WAY) with ACTive MOTion"... you know, and I know that includes the massage feature but it doesn't actually SAY it includes the massage feature by name. Hoping Patty's salesperson is incorrect. 🤞

Hi BL. They are one and the same. Active Motion is the massage feature.

Good luck.

I had already signed the paperwork when I asked about the lift gate and he volunteered the luxury pkg massaging seats info. If what he said is accurate, he said that lincoln was supposed to call anyone with a car on order with the luxury pkg to let them know of possible delays and then give the buyer the option of talking delivery without the functionality but get the chip installed later or to hold out for the availability of the pkg at delivery. As others on these boards have said, it's very hard to know who or what to believe these days. I'm just thrilled I was able to track one down and got it for slightly under msrp. Like your wife, massaging seats were a must-have. Good luck!

Time will tell. Of course all of this is mute if the rail unions strike. With the exception of those about to roll off the line, Everyone’s builds will be put on hold.

I think the longer it takes my Aviator to arrive, the better deal I might get considering my current one still has lease payments.

You might be right but less so when with the same manufacturer.

My Volvo is up in January or February (I forget) and wonder if I’ll have to extend my lease if my Aviator is delayed...which I’d rather not do. If it slides further into the Spring I’ll be close to warmer weather when my convertible comes out and might consider waiting until next Fall. Other than to move my daughters to / from college or family road trips to Northern Michigan, the Aviator will sit in the garage. Good problems to have I guess.
