New recall - substandard material strength in engine frame rails

If the vehicle passes the testing/verification and they can show me the results I will drive it home that day. If not, well we will not purchase it and will reorder, hopefully with a higher priority as we don't want to wait 9 months like this one took from order to delivery....

HI Rubyspal. Just a heads up, so you can be prepared: The "results" will most likely consist of them telling you and/or handing an Invoice to you stating it was inspected under Recall# XXXXX, and it passed (or failed). There will be no "tensile strength test results" (just winging it there;)) and/or technical data printouts.

Lincoln/Ford will provide all Service Departments a specific but simple inspection and testing criteria. The Dealer will not fudge Recall test results and risk being sued for millions of dollars.

Not telling you what to do, only what to expect and realistically not expect.

Keep us updated and good luck.

?? If I offended someone, sorry. I don't understand the quote and comment.

Hi inman. I could be wrong, but I read it as BriBoy complementing your reply.

Good luck.

Agreed. Saying he respects your comment.

Well, we have been officially notified by our dealer that our 2022 Aviator that just arrived at the dealership is part of this recall and has a NO SALE HOLD on it. They told me they are waiting for more information from Lincoln/Ford on what option there are. They mentioned replacing the engine rails, I said I will not take the vehicle after that major of a recall/repair..... So now we have to decide do we reorder now and hope that the commodity restraints don't bite us, or do we choose to hang onto our 2015 Explorer for a couple more years till this all hopefully blows over.....
From the recall notice.
"Dealers will first inspect the affected Explorers and Aviators. If the rails are out of spec, “owners will have the option for a vehicle replacement or buyback.”

Hi Peter. Yes...from my previous interpretation, I understood Lincoln/Ford will not be repairing affected vehicles (i.e. those with defective parts). Owners will be offered a buyback or replacement.

Thanks for the verification and good luck.

Inman - I meant the utmost respect. I'm impressed and humbled. (and at a loss for words)

No sweat - sorry - I obviously misunderstood - thanks for the compliments. Nothing magical about my knowledge here, it just happens that this problem coincidentally is up my alley of training and experience (a little bit of an engineering niche).

This is the beauty of the forums - many times we are fortunate that someone else on the forum happens to have good knowledge/experience/training and we can then help each other out. I'm always immensely appreciative of others' knowledge here.

I am still waiting to hear the "final" disposition on our Aviator so we can either buy it, or decide next steps on order a 23, or wait.....
Interesting times....

If your vehicle is affected, then the only option you have is a buyback or replacement. Buying it doesn't seem to be an option.

Just a guess here that @Rubyspal understands that and is saying if his Aviator is not in the affected group, he can then decide whether or not to purchase it.

Peter,
Understood, if it passes the "inspection" and is not determined to be part of the recall we can still buy it. If it fails, then we can't buy it and have to determine if we will order a 2023 at this time, or hold off and continue to drive our 2015 Explorer for another year or so until hopefully the supply chain issues are better and see what is available then.

From this reference set of one - if it fails inspection, no doubt I'd reorder based on our satisfaction with the car. Most definitely it sucks what you've been through - but IMHO you will not be disappointed at all. We love our car (I even drive my 625+ F type R Jag less as a result!). Your Explorer is a great car and will service you well in the interim.

Still no word from Ford/Lincoln corporate as to how/when they will determine if this Aviator is affected, or if it passes what ever inspection they are working on..... My dealer has called me once a week to let me know that they have not heard a thing. I asked him today to have Mgt speak to their Regional Rep to at least try to get a time frame to expect to hear. Sad thing is we were ready to order a 2023 back in June when they offered us this Aviator that was built and waiting for shipment. I reminded my salesman today of that and that we likely would have a build date by now if we had ordered. If this goes South we will be 3 months into this process and be back at square 1. Certainly not the end of the world, but a tad bit frustrating.

Man that’s a beaut, hope you get to drive it off the lot

Still nothing from Ford/Lincoln as to how/when they will inspect the 2022 Aviator we have been patiently waiting for for a long time now. Sat down with our Salesperson yesterday and told them we are loosing our patience and would like our deposit back and will decide to order in the future when the supply chain issues calm down. He understood and the Gen Mgr said he was surprised we hadn't requested our deposit back weeks ago. They said that if/when they get the inspection and the OK to sell they will call us first and give us the opportunity to test drive it and make a decision before anyone else. We are thinking that we may wait and see what updates are planned for the 2024 Aviator. We did look at a Grand Cherokee L yesterday and it was nice, but not Aviator nice.....

Once you sign off your order, as your GM suggested, and he'd give you first crack of it when it's arrived, out of the goodness of his heart of course, you LOOSE the original price/incentives from day of order and have to pay today's price, including increases.

Hi Rubyspal. Pete@STAP is correct. If you are removed as the buyer for the order, you will lose price protection if you decide to purchase it later.

If the Dealer truly wishes to accommodate you, they can refund your deposit, retain you on the order as the buyer, and then give you the right to accept or refuse the vehicle when it finally arrives. A deposit is not required or necessary to place or hold an order.
Therefore, they can return your deposit at any time and still keep your price protection, as long as your name is maintained on the order as the retail buyer.

Perhaps that is what they are doing, but you had better check with them now to be sure they are maintaining your price protection.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

No sneaky underhanded stuff here. They have already agreed to price protection from the order date and X-plan pricing, so if it passes, and we want it, then we will get a fair deal. If we order a 2023 we will be price protected from the day of order and still get X-plan pricing. We are happy with the dealer and how they are treating us.
