I just spent a few hundred dollars with a local shop to diagnose intermittent fail to starts on my Expedition. I discovered after all was said and done - that the ECU is in the engine compartment (like this car - arghh)! The issue was corrosion/contaminants in the ECU harness connector pins/sockets. The repair was to simply disconnect and clean. All that because some idiot bean counters made the engineers save a nickel with a shorter harness and no hole/seal in the firewall. All my other cars have the ECU in the passenger compartment (up in the dash) where it is protected from the environment and normally in a humidity controlled environment. I see this as a potential issue down the road as well.
I wonder how we can get the covers. This is nonsense with the ECU hanging out there. Maybe I'll have to test my service department. Please let us know your success, Impulse...
