My Lincoln
2014 MKS
I bought my 2014 MKS AWD last year with about 55k miles and I'm now well over 76k. Ever since I bought it, occasionally the drivers side temperature will raise itself without me touching any buttons. To get it to stop, I have to touch the + &- on the driver side climate controls for it to stop, then adjust it on the touch screen. Has anyone else had issues like this? What can I do to fix it?

More than likely, your FCIM is going bad. The FCIM is the control assembly for the radio and the climate control. New ones are no longer available from Ford, but remanufactured ones are available. There is also a guy on Ebay who repairs them. He did one of mine about a year ago and it's working fine. Here is a link to his Ebay listing.

You will have to remove it from the car and send it to him---A pain in the A$$ job !!!

Hi DS. What Rongold stated. And unfortunately, this sensitivity will usually get worse with time on the MyLincolnTouch and MyFordTouch systems.

The fix is replacement with a refurbished/rebuilt FCIM unit, or refurbishing/rebuilding the FCIM you have.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I just purchased my 14 MKS two days ago. My wife and I love everything about this car.I has 108k on the odo, I am second owner, no accidents. The car maintained meticulously! All recods are in the car and on Carfax. It was never driven north of SC. Yesterday am as I was driving along, first I hear the ping tone every second, coming fom the climat control system and I see the temp climbing into the 80's as the fan speed increases! I was able to bring it under control by mashing the max a/c button on the screen, then the off button for the whole system. A minute later it turned itself on and went through the same process. After that, when the engine was at normal operating temp, the system returned to normal and has not recurred. I have located several instances on You Tube, where backyard mechanics take the entire dash apart, locate and replace a computer module for the climate control system. I purchas the car at a fair price from a used car dealer with a great reputation for identifing and providing clean used vehicles. They know nothing about this problem but are willing to tackle it in an effort to correct the problem. I also purchased a 3 year protection plan, unlimited mileage and the brochure says this component is covered. The ink is not dry on the contract, the CU has not yet funded the deal, my $5k down payment check has not yet cleared the bank! My dilemma is, since the car is acting normally at the moment, do I take a flyer and hope it is not going to blow up into a recurring issue that makes the car inoperable with no climate control in this Carolina heat! Does anybody on this forum know if this a major issue wit all MKS models or, if there is a clear fix for the problem. Any and all guidance appreciated. Lumberjack

Hi Lumberjack. The previous posts actually answer all your question. This is a relatively common problem with the LincolnMyTouch (as in your MKS) and FordMyTouch systems. Which is part of the reason MyLincolnTouch and MyFordTouch were a short lived feature.
It is the beginning of a cascading/more frequent failure of the FCIM (Front Control Interface Module). And since electronics generally do not heal themselves, it will usually get worse with time.

Does it happen to all? No. But if it happened to you once, you can be relatively sure it will happen again. So if it was my vehicle, I would insist it be replaced or repaired, and not "take a flyer" on it not happening again.

Your Dealer can fix the problem by replacing the FCIM. They are no longer available new. However, refurbished FCIM models can be purchased from several sources. There are also sources that will repair FCIM's, if yours is sent to them.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Lumberjack, it sounds like your car has the beginning of the FCIM problem. It will only get worse---not better. I have 2 MKS's--a 2014 and a 2015. My wife drives the 14 and I drive the 15. Her car currently has 21,000 miles on it and mine has 13,000. The problem happened on her car. Her car was a Certified Pre Owned car bought from a Lincoln dealer in 2016 with 5,600 miles on it---Mine was bought brand new and has no problem yet. The problem started on her car in July 2021, four months after the 7 year/100,000 mile CPO warranty expired. The CPO warranty on her car started on the "new car delivery date" which was in March 2014. I took her FCIM out of the car and sent it to the guy on Ebay who fixes them and he found a couple of cracked traces on the printed circuit board behind the face of the panel. He repaired them and the control has performed flawlessly since. I communicated with him via e-mail and he told me that the majority of problems with these panels comes from people pushing too hard on the control---It's a "touch panel"---NOT a "push panel", he said, and if and when you push too hard, you crack the circuit board behind the panel's face. The circuitry behind the face of the panel senses when your finger is near one of the words on the face of the panel and completes your command after sensing the change in capacitance your finger provides. That's what happened to my wife's car, and that's how you avoid cracking the circuit board---Touch--DON'T PUSH !!! A properly working FCIM will complete your command before your finger even touches the panel.

Thanks Rongold. That is usefull information and much appreciated. This 14 MKS has over 100k but still looks and runs like new. We want to make it work. Can you advise how much time was involved in removing and replacing the module? Thx again. Lumberjack

It took me about 3 hours to get it out and about an hour to reinstall it. Go onto Ebay and get the service manual on CD--They're not available in print. Do a search for 2014 Lincoln MKS service manual--Even better off, here's a link to the search.

It's a pain in the ass job !!!

Here is a video of a guy doing the job. It will give you an idea of what has to be removed.

Thanks again Ron. That's very helpful information. I did see one video and could not believe how many dash and console parts need to come out before the module! I will show this one to the tech at the service dept where bought the car Friday. We had four episodes, since then, where the system, completely on its own runs up to 80, at which point I touch the Max AC button followed by the off button, wait approx 60 sec and turn it back on. No further episodes for the rest of the day and evening! Hopefully. I can replicate the problem. Will keep you posted!
Thx again.

Same on my 2013 MKS. I found a method to temporarily stop the behavior by hitting it with a can of compressed air turned upside down. This supercooled the "button" and would usually stop the non stop temperature rise for that trip in car. Recently though that stopped working with any consistency.

I finally bit the bullet and removed the FCIM using this video
to figure out how to get it out. Taking inspiration from this guy
I used a pair of cuticle clippers (which can double is really small wire cutters) to remove the micro-relay from the circuit board connected to the driver's side temperature up button. This completely kills that button but all other buttons on the FCIM still work perfectly.

Between the steering wheel controls, My Temp button and being able to adjust the temperature on the touch screen having that button dead is a small price to pay to permanently get rid of the out of control heat running on full blast high. Really glad I did it as we too a trip to Georgia in July and can only imagine how much I would have been fighting the temperature controls in that relentless heat.

Does using the "My Temp" setting on the touch screen override the runaway high temp ghost? I had the temps increase constantly on me over the past couple of days. But having My Temp set seemed to stop it. But I've only driven about 40 minutes. Definitely need to get this stupid capacitive touch panel to stop doing what it's doing...

Just a small correction to the many posts here?
The FMIC is NOT the problem! It's the control panel for the FMIC. That is what's repaired by the people on EBay.

As pointed out the control panel is a touch panel and NOT a press panel and many don't know that. Our problem started after we had the windows tinted. They need heat to set/dry the tint and the installer turned everything up to the max. Apparently he was perhaps pushing instead of touching the control. Cracking the circuit board behind the front display.

Wife drove the car home and we now have this problem. I hope to send in the front panel for repair as most everyone seems happy with the repair and it does last.

Yes I have but it started after 100,000 miles

I have been pushing this off until it got cooler outside to not sweat like crazy in the Florida heat trying to remove this. I finally got the FCIM and control panel out today so I can send it in for repair. The youtube vids helped keep the frustration to a manageable level, but was still a pain in the butt to get out. I did notice though, behind the passenger AirBag trim above the glove box in Mexico's video (1st vid), that FoMoCo module visible from around 4:36 in the video is missing from my car. Anyone know what that module is? Is that the actual airbag or airbag module? Or some added feature in other Lincoln Models?

If I completely disconnect the FCIM panel, will I still be able to control the AC thru the touchscreen monitor?

NO, the climate control will go into full heat, front defrost and you cannot change it. That's how it was when my 2014 MKS had the FCIM removed for repair. The radio will work, but the climate control defaults to full heat/front defrost.

Do you happen to have an image of what the new refurbished part looks like before install? Happening on my Mom's 2014 MKS and trying to search for a replacement. We are not handy enough to take a part ourselves. Thanks

I have seen a couple part numbers for the FCIM used here. If someone knows what the part number for a 2014 MKS is can you let me know. Does it matter if it is a 2014 but has a manufacture date of 2013 on the door?
