confused on headlights!!!

I put in LED'S the other day. Plug and play as usual. HOWEVER, the low beams look like halogen and the HIGHBEAMS look like the LED'S! Outside / INSIDE respectively. How did that happen?? A little hard to see because it's daytime but the Halogen's are visible.

Hi Tclg. There several issues. First...Unfortunately, installing aftermarket LED headlights in a vehicle headlight housing/electrical system designed for halogen or HID is rarely "Plug and play". The different headlight systems do not work and play well with each other. And quality of the aftermarket LED system you installed will also come into play.

Next...So while the bulbs may plug in easily, they won't play well, since the electrical and electronic systems of your Town Car may very well not like them. And in some cases, these aftermarket bulbs/systems can cause damage to the electrical/electronic of your vehicle.

Finally...It is illegal to install non-OEM bulbs in a road vehicle. We can not legally install HID or LED bulbs in a halogen headlight housing. Or LED bulbs in a HID housing etc. The reason is because headlight housings and reflectors are designed specifically for one type of bulb. Using another type can lead to poor lighting for the driver, and dangerous glare for oncoming drivers.
This is why there will be a disclaimer somewhere on the websites and/or packaging of these bulbs, stating some variation of "For off-road use only", "Not for on-road use" etc.

This seems to be the case with your situation.

Your best course of action would be to reinstall the factory type bulbs.

So having said all that, why would the LED show up on the bright light side and not the side I put it on. Which is what I'm confused about. Never had that issue before.

Hi Tclg. Blind Internet diagnosis? The bulbs are either incompatible, cheap or there is some other reason that cannot be determined via the Internet, which seems to be making them incompatible with the lighting/electrical/electronic systems of your Town Car.

My recommendation would be to reinstall the correct factory/OEM bulbs.

I am sure other members will jump in with more information and recommendations.

Not Really sure what you mean. I've got HID for Low beams and LEDs for Fogs on my Lincoln Town Car. No problems whatsoever.

Do you mean just the color of the lights? i.e. the LEDs look more yellow while the highs look bluish? If that's what you mean, there are some LEDs that are made to produce yellowish light and vice versa, there are some halogen lights that produce bluish LED-like light. Am I misunderstanding your post?

I haven't seen anyone be able to confirm yet that the factory HID and factory halogen housing is actually different other than the electronics needed for HID.

That said, HID lights are much more effort to install

If you do want some white light LED bulbs, I installed these on my 09' and while they weren't great, they were ok, probably would have been better if I adjust them a little bit.

I installed these a couple years ago. Easy install and they throw so much more light than the stock halogens. I have had no issues whatsoever.

Its been a few years since I installed but as I recall they just went in like the oem bulbs. Line up the tabs with the slots, insert and turn 90 degrees or so as I recall.

the hid housing has a different mirror pattern to allow the focusing of the hid beam light. there is also a cut-off that blocks the light on the bottom of the reflectors.
HID housing first in pics then halogen.
side note: the headlight style is called a reflector. the 03+ did not have projector headlights.

Yes I looked at a couple of HID housing headlights on eBay. One was almost 400 and the other 500 and the rubber strip around the top was basically torn off and hanging. Those prices were not including bulbs but seem a little ridiculous. Lol

can I ask what year you have? since 03-05 are stupid expensive compared to 06+.

Mine is a 2010 Signature LTD. My last 2010 had great headlights. They looked brighter then what I was used to. I didn’t do anything to them. That one was a Continental edition, this one is a standard Sig Ltd. I’m wondering now if those might have been HID.

Can anybody tell from this picture if I have Halogens or HID’s?
