All remote features, such as starting your vehicle from anywhere after it has gone into deep sleep mode are deactivated. That's one disadvantage. Second, after I finally got back to my vehicle, and started it up, I could no longer open any when the vehicle was locked. Thirdly, the vehicle is supposed to light up upon approaching it when it's locked. It no longer did that. Fourth, I constantly kept getting an error message just before I started my vehicle that said "either turn your vehicle on, or shut the engine off", or something to that effect. Even the dealership couldn't figure it out!
With the vehicle being just a year old, and only 4500 miles on it, the final solution was to put a new battery in it, and being about 100 miles to the nearest dealership, I ended up paying for it myself.
I will never buy another vehicle that has the deep sleep mode feature!!!
I've had many other Lincolns and Jaguars that have sat for months at a time, and never had a problem!!!
This was just my experience.... I'm not saying for some it's probably a good feature. Just not for me!
Hi jdaniel. Yes, those features I mentioned (forgot to mention LincolnWay remote start) are deactivated in Deep Sleep Mode in order to ensure the car will start when it needs to.
If a new battery solved your issue, or made it occur less often, then your battery was failing (it even happens with brand new batteries) and "Deep Sleep Mode did its job to avoid you coming home to a non-starting vehicle.
Again, in my opinion (but not yours, I understand), far better than coming home to a dead battery after a 14+ day trip, or not using the car for 14 days, or being caught with a dead battery in freezing cold temperatures with a weak/failing/failed battery etc. etc. (all reasons "Deep Sleep Mode is activated).
Concerning your 4 points that you consider to be disadvantages...I am aware of all of them, as I previously explained what "Deep Sleep"/"Battery Saver" are supposed to do. Plus, they are detailed in the Owners Manual and my car has them too. I guess the point is that your vehicle (and mine) is behaving normally, including:
- First...The deactivation of remote "starting your vehicle from anywhere".
- Second...This one is confusing, did you leave a word out? You "...could no longer open any when the vehicle was locked ...". You could no longer open any when... what?
- Third...Yes, the "Lincoln Embrace" lighting will deactivate in "Deep Sleep Mode". But it will only be deactivated that one time until the vehicle is started, then will return back to normal. At least until 14 days with no driving etc.
- Fourth...The "either turn your vehicle on, or shut the engine off" message is again, normal. It is simply a warning to let the driver know that the ignition is on, so either start the car or the system will shut down power in order to save the battery. Don't know why the dealership couldn't figure it out. It is also explained in the Owners Manual. That is their screw up.
Additionally, if the battery was dead and would not start the car, you could have called Lincoln Complementary Roadside Service and had the battery replaced.
Can't speak for your past cars, how old they were etc. However,
virtually all new vehicles have some sort of "Deep Sleep Mode"/"Battery Saver" features, except for perhaps lower cost, entry level vehicles.
So although it is obvious you do not care for the feature, there is not much that can be done to avoid it in any make of
new vehicle, since it is meant to help us.
You are probably only wanting to vent, and I am not arguing with what you like or don't like. You certainly have the right to that opinion.
However, I am only supplying this information so others do not think there is something wrong with their vehicles when "Deep Sleep Mode" is activated in those particular circumstances.
Good luck.
