My wife has 2022 Aviator GT with 3,000 miles on. I bought it on 12/22 in Alabama. I drove it to KY the first day I had it. On the drive the battery never charged. Read 0 miles electric the whole drive, which I find odd.

The first time my wife got in the car she got the “full accessory power message” with a No-start, 545 miles on dash. No other messages. The car wouldn’t go into gear. It said it detected a fault in hybrid battery system. After 30mins the car started up without issue with no codes. (We googled the message and found another Ford forum that said let the car sit)

Local dealership took 3 weeks to get it in the shop. They said nothing was wrong and everything was up to date. Even though the vehicle said it detected a problem with the hybrid system. Week of Feb 1st.

Last Wednesday, while driving 70mph on the interstate the car turned off. Wife said if felt like someone turned the ignition off. Gas pedal was dead and she had to coast to a stop. The car popped up “Stop Safely Now” and “full accessory power” and would not restart. She waited 30mins again, like before, and still nothing. She tried the start button to no avail, tried to remote start it with the key (nothing). Car restarted with the phone as key app though. No messages showed after finally restarting.

Took the car back to Lincoln and they said they can’t find anything. They’ve had it a week and put 100 miles on it. The service manager took it home over the weekend as well.

I have filed complaints with the NHTSA and Lincoln.

Anybody else dealing with these issues and does anybody have a fix for it. This thing is a death trap.

Alex

Update since my initial post. Dealership can't find anything wrong with the car. They have run every test Lincoln's engineer has requested. Lincoln is now going to replace the hybrid battery and the cpu that runs it. They have also agreed to initiate a buy-back if this does not solve the issues.

Let us know how it goes I am assuming that should fix it based on your error messages but gl either way.

Welcome to the Forum Alex.

I don't believe anyone else has reported this issue. Personally, I can't see replacing the hybrid battery as resolving this issue since I believe the vehicle is designed to run with 0 charge. Something is cutting power to the engine. Faulty ignition switch?

There are points where the EV range displayed does increment as you drive. However, once the battery is drawn down to zero, you will see no "recharged" number in the EV range section. It will stay at zero until plugged in. Also at this point, your vehicle can operate as a hybrid, but not fully electric. There is a chart somewhere in the manual which explains when you will see that EV range number increase. If I have a chance, I'll see if I can find it.

Sorry for delayed response. I did not receive any email notifications of messages. Anyway, there's a whole lot to unpack here. My local dealership, in their infinite wisdom, told me to pick the car up while they waited on parts for the hybrid battery.

We picked the car up on 2/17. On 2/20, the car quit again on the interstate. My wife was driving in a construction zone with my 2yr old and 4yr old in the car. She called and said the car was acting funny. It would accelerate at 100% and then quit. It would accelerate at 100% and then quit. Then it died. She had to coast almost 3 miles before finding a safe place to pull over. I put a dash camera in the car. I have a 5min video of her coasting on the interstate. She was doing 37mph with semi's blowing past her blowing their horns. My 2yr and 4yr are in the background screaming, "mommy what's wrong with your car? Mommy why won't your car go! Mommy go faster! Are we out of gas?" The car got towed to dealership and has been there since 2/20/22. No parts have been changed, nothing has been done to it

I sent Lincoln an email that night and told them this was no longer my problem. The car is their problem and I want my money back. Lincoln refused. They have told me multiple times that nothing is wrong with the car. They see nothing wrong. They aren't saying I'm lying, They just cant get their tech to replicate it. I asked them to review their decision, no dice. I begged them to buy the car back, no dice.

I called a Lawyer to discuss. He told me since I bought the car in Alabama I would have to sue there. He said he would sue Lincoln, the dealership, and Lincoln financial services. The dealer really didn't know what was going on and I felt they should know before they got sued. So I called them. Within 2hrs of my phone call they offered to buy it back. That sounded great. They were gonna do the right thing, so I thought. Turns out they will only give me my purchase price back. I have to eat the tax, title, license and trade-in tax savings, $7,000. I told them no. The dealer did share the Oasis report with me though, for reasons I'll never know.

I called Lincoln one last time to buy the car back. I told them I had the Oasis report and video evidence of the car quitting. They said no. I told them this wasn't the last time they would hear from me and I would go full scorched earth on them. I would literally burn the whole god damn system down to protect my wife and kids, if they wouldn't buy it back. They told me good luck.

Back to the Oasis report. Oasis is Ford's diagnostic report to help service techs diagnose vehicle issues. It registers fault codes on a 60-day rolling basis. My wife's aviator has disabled the hybrid motor on 14 separate occasions! It registered 358 individual diagnosis faults in a 60-day span. That's 6 faults a day. On 2/2/22, the first time it quit, the car registered individual 35 codes when it shut down. The time stamp on the Oasis matches up minute to minute with the videos and pictures I have showing "stop safely now" & "full accessory power".

A Ford engineer called me, also, and asked to put some type of sophisticated engine monitor on the car. I told him I didn't care, we wont ever drive it again though. It's sitting at the dealership and they could go get it for all I cared. He informed me that almost every single Aviator plug-in is doing this. Not all of them but, "a whole lot of them"

I have been on the warpath with Ford since I obtained the Oasis report and that engineer called. This is the hill I'm going to die on. Ford is going to recall these cars. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed. Along with my NHTSA complaint, I have filed complaints with the Attorney General's of Alabama and Kentucky, and have spoken with staff in both offices. I called my local news and did an on camera interview, they are running the story in the coming weeks. They have to contact all the parties I contacted and get statements first. A national CBSNews correspondent called me yesterday to discuss as well. Both of my US Senators sent letters of congressional inquiry to the NHTSA about my complaint, Sen McConnell and Sen Paul. Rep Yarmuth called Ford himself and asked them what they're doing. I sent 3 certified letters to Ford's General Counsel. I filed a complaint with the Alabama BBB, under their lemon law act.

The NHTSA called me and asked for a full report. I spoke to them twice today and they said I'll hear from them tomorrow as well. They have run this up the chain of command and have asked for all of the info I have. They have asked me to provide the videos, documentation and any voicemails/emails/texts from anyone that has touched the car.

After Rep Yarmuth called, the Lincoln customer service rep called me and said they wanted to buy the car back from me. Previously, I told her she would be calling me back asking for the car and she was dismissive of that statement. I warned her, and meant it, when I said I would scorch earth them. There's an old quote from a play, "Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned". I'd like to replace that quote with "don't piss off a stay-at-home dad protecting his babies". I will move Heaven and Earth in order to protect my family, especially my children who can't protect themselves.

We shall see

(Attached is the Oasis report and my service repair orders. My wife took those pictures of my babies before she pulled out of the driveway on 2/20/22. 7 minutes later the car turned itself off at 65mph. That easily could have been the last photos my kids were ever in.)

You have done a great job of documenting the malfunctions you are having, so I am reasonably sure you will get the problems resolved, but it shouldn't be this hard! I have a 2021 Aviator that has a number of unresolved problems, but none that are catastrophic . . . . yet. I am very afraid of running in to a similar situation as yours and will be dumping my Aviator upon finding a suitable replacement. I wish you the best in resolving your issue!

I already ordered a Lexus GX460. It will be here in a couple of weeks. I'll never buy another Ford product unless it's a diesel. I have a brand new F350 Tremor. That purchase has been it's own fiasco. It was purchased under A-plan as well. I ordered it in June 2021. The dealer charged me $1700 more than my June invoice, which is clear violation of Ford A-Z plan guidelines. That dealer has not returned phone calls or emails concerning my issue. Different dealer than Aviator

I am probably going off forum topic here, but Toyota has a 2023 Sequoia hybrid in the works with a Lexus equivalent to follow.

Well good luck to both of you I have never experienced this issue with either of my aviator gts or my parents cosair gt so its definitely not normal. To be honest surprised you took it back the 1st time when they didn't find anything wrong.

Wow, that OASIS report is unreal, as are the roadblocks and stonewalling by Lincoln. The whole situation is scary, especially since the safety and security of family members are involved. It's too bad you had to go scorched-earth, but sometimes that's what it takes. As I said in another thread, starting a Congressional inquiry is a quick way to get someone's attention, as it did in your case. I hope things get resolved to your satisfaction soon brother.

This admission from the engineer is astounding but not entirely unexpected, at least to me:

He informed me that almost every single Aviator plug-in is doing this. Not all of them but, "a whole lot of them"

"A whole lot of them" suggests to me that there are systemic problems with the GT vehicles. Given what you and other GT owners here have been through, ask yourself if the tax incentives and gas savings are worth it. The question answers itself in my view.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, and I'm sorry if this offends anyone, but these electric cars are not ready for prime time. It's almost like the ones that DON'T have problems are the exceptions.

They forced me to pick it up. They were going to replace the hybrid battery. Local dealership said they had to order parts and it could be a couple of weeks. They couldn't tie up a loaner for that long. I called Lincoln and bitched to them about it. They said I needed to pick it up. Now I refused to pick it up, moving forward, when they declined to buy it back. I've been paying $100a day for a rental for since 2/20/22.

All I know is what the engineer has told me. He has called me 3-4 times. He said there is quite a few doing this. I thought I might be the only one for a while, but he has told me different. He said there is a mandatory conference call everyday at noon, everyday, to discuss. They have one in Dearborn that they were able to replicate the issues on. They have it confirmed.

Have you seen the issues with the Mustang EV? Google "Stop Safely Now" "Full accessory power" "Ford". This isn't an Aviator alone issue. This is Ford's EV vehicles. They are not ready for the market

They typically have to give you a loaner for major issues when safety is involved that may be just your dealer. I highly doubt a high voltage battery warning and a stop safely now is a common issue. Not saying that someone doesn't experience it as things happen but everyone I know who has a phev or electric vehicle from ford/lincoln has not had this issue. (Bit of people since I'm in cali and these things are fairly popular here) Not saying there isn't other error codes that may be occurring but I have never had that on any of my PHEVs. Either way good luck with your buyback.

I just wanted to thank you for the education! I did not know what an Oasis Report was. Apparently most if not all manufacturers have an equivalent. Very valuable information!

This is absolutely a terrible story to hear and exactly the concern I felt when I had my repetitive air suspension failures that resulted in the vehicle saying drive less than 35mph on the screen. The total lack of confidence that I could get into my vehicle and drive 500mph to visit my family and not worry I might get stuck in the middle of Pennsylvania on i-80. Reading this story was the last straw for me. I'm going to visit my local Audi dealer to see how long it will take to receive an ordered vehicle. Gonna jettison this for a Q7, I wish the SQ7 was out when I bought my vehicle, I would have purchased that. Now too much depreciation will have taken a huge chunk out of this, I will have to go with the Q7 vs the SQ7.

It's disgusting to hear this is whe've come as a society. Lawyers convince all clients to clam up and NOT make good on problems. I've seen also the before where Ford just doesn't care (issue of warranty for my struts on my Expedition). It's fight, fight, deny, deny, obfuscate and confuse.

I hope for all that Ford get's to the bottom of this and resolves it. It's surprising to here the Ford engineer fess up and we've not heard of this on the forum - or did I miss others with similar ails.

Alex

I am having the exact issue as you reported. I have been to the Lincoln dealership 5 or 6 times already. Still no fix. I have a 2021 Lincoln Aviator Hybrid that I purchased June of last year.

Have you had them replace the battery pack on it yet? If you are still having issues I would recommend taking it to another dealer as that shouldn't happen. I have had 2 aviator gts neither had this issue.
