Town Car HVAC blend door actuator replacement

I cant see the attached files?

The files are on the site forum. When you click on the file it is dowloaded to your "downloads" folder. You should see it at the bottom of your page, if not go to your downloads folder.

Good luck.

Hello again. I got 1264 code and no/very weak leg vent. Mostly front window. I suppose it's passenger side Bda. Which part no should I order and is it this one as attached?
A 1264 is the floor mode door actuator failure. The dash must be removed to replace that so you would replace both the floor and defrost actuators. I replied to your post in the town car forum with the part numbers. We have the procedure to replace those actuators in our tech forum for the town car.

The passenger blend door actuator replacement procedure that you posted does not apply to the 1264 code.

Good luck.

I just want to thank-you so much for the info. I have to replace the door actuator and this by far sounds much easier than pulling the whole dash.

The referenced 2007 Blend Door Actuator Removal and Installation instructions do not indicate dash removal as necessary for later models. This is contrary to some information floating about the interwebs and is quite the good news.

It's me again.
1. Does anyone have a resource for OEM part numbers for the actuators? Most vendors include these even if they sell aftermarket brands to help match up correct purchases.
2. Is anyone aware of a video of the replacement of the blend door actuators for 2007 and newer models (youtube was a dry run)?

Here's the numbers of the actuators I got from rock auto.

YH1755 Floor Door Mode Actuator 9W1H-19E616-CA
YH1754 Defrost/Panel Door Mode Actuator 9W1H-19E616-BA

The numbers on the ones I removed were.
3W1H-19E616-CC & 3W1H-19E616-BA respectively.

There is / was a video on youtube showing this guy replacing the driver's side blend door actuator on either a 2007 / 2008 Towncar/ Marquis (probably same thing) and he did not remove the dash. Without looking at the diagrams here, it looked to be not too difficult except there isn't much room to get your hands in there. Sorry I can't give you a link as I thought I had bookmarked it and tried to find it again on youtube with no such luck. I'm not looking forward to doing my own soon.

HI, I just have air blowing from the floor vents....hitting the defrost or panel buttons do nothing. I did the self-test and the code was 1264. Does this mean that the floor and blower actuators need replacing?

Is this limited to just towncars or do same year continentals and mark viii's subject to the same blend door issues ?

Thanks
For a 98 mk8 the instrument panel needs to come out to change the blend door.
I actually did this once
Attached are the instructions

The OME Part Numbers 2007 Town Car are: RT & LT Blend Door 9W1Z19E616A; DEFROST 9W1Z19E616B; FLOOR 9W1Z19E616C; 9W1Z19E616D RECIRULATE. Both of the Blend doors can be replaced w/o removing the Dash. The right hand (Passenger Side) requires removing the glove box.

I'm about to do a 1998 Town Car. So happy to hear I do not have to pull the dash but messing w/the airbag scares me a bit. Will try it, though.

All indicators are a code 24, bad temp blend door.

Here's my question; how do I know if the problem is a bad door or a bad actuator or just a short someplace? Any easy way to tell?

The self-test reports a code 24 and all signs point to same.

TIA

I have a 98 towncar, with a working AC pump but my problem is the blend door, the elctronic actuator is good so I think i need to replace what is called the "plenum" my question is the plenum also called the "evaporator housing" ?

Hi. Did you ever get an answer to this? Looks like I need to replace mine too. -Brian

2003 and up blend door actuator replacement

The 2003 models and above have dual blend door actuators so that the driver and front passenger have separate temperature control. The rear seat passengers receive air through the rear passenger duct from the driver side BDA and temperature setting. Both BDA's are located in the center stack and accessible without removing the dash. Attached are the procedures to replace the LH (driver side) temperature blend door actuator (BDA) and the RH (passenger side) temperature blend door actuator (BDA).

Good luck.
Hello,

Great info. Wondering if someone has a tip for me on this one. 04 Town Car replaced blend door actuator for temp control on drivers side, do not have a code any longer but temp still does not change. Does battery have to be disconnected to reset or relearn the position? Thanks in advance

In my case the blend door itself failed. The plastic shaft that connects to the actuator became brittle over time and just fell apart. So while the actuator moves, the door does not. I plan to replace it in the Spring.

The 1992 and up models of the Town Car use an electronically controlled actuator (motor and sensor) to position the blend door which allows a varying amount of heated air into the HVAC air flow. Most models, except for the 1998 model and the 2003 and up models require the dash to be removed for access to the blend door. The blend door actuator problem usually shows up as a failure to vary the HVAC air temperature even though both heater hoses are hot. A failed actuator can make a tapping or ticking noise. The problem can be confirmed through the EATC self test (usually code 24 or 25) which can be found in another thread in this tech forum.

Attached is the procedure for the 1998 model to remove the passenger air bag and replace either the recirc actuator (for fresh air or cabin air input to the HVAC) or the blend door actuator. The negative terminal on the battery must be removed for at least a minute (Ford's recommendation) to allow the capacitors in the supplemental restraints system to discharge. Since such a discharge would be catastrophic it may be prudent to leave the battery disconnected for 5 minutes or more.

It should be noted that the blend door itself may have failed which is usually noted as a missing or broken actuator drive axle coming up from the plenum. In this case the plenum will need to be replaced, requiring the dash to be removed.

Good luck.

My 2007 Town Car climate system blows normal on Driver side, but ONLY COLD on Passenger side. I installed a new Climate Head and there was no change.. Is it reasonable to now assume it is the "blend door and actuator system" on the Pass side that s bad?

Edit: Are the LH and RH parts the same? Does this part look correct: HVAC Heater Blend Door Actuator MOTORCRAFT YH-1768 fits 1998 Lincoln Town Car | eBay

Replaced both BDAs (2006 Town Car) per this video and it didn't make a blind bit of difference. Still no air movement from dash vents.
