I would also recommend undoing the 2 screws holding the glovebox hinge so you can completely remove the glovebox for a little more room.

I did that job with the dealer mechanic. It did not require anything being removed that the procedure did not call for. I found it a very simple job and took hardly any time at all.

Right now I'm working on a 1998 Lincoln Town Car Executive. The problem I'm having is that no matter what position you set the air to blow out, it stays blowing out by the windshield. It wont blow through the dash vents or the floor. I've got it somewhat tore apart, but not sure what the exact problem is I'm looking for
 
Welcome.

The mode doors for the floor and panel/defrost are operated by vacuum motors. When the motors fail or there is no vacuum the default position for the mode doors is defrost. All the air is directed out the defrost vents and the floor and panel vents are closed. This thread deals with the blend door actuators that control the temperature of the air, and not where it is distributed.

We don't have a thread in the Lincoln Tech forum to diagnose a problem with the vacuum motors and replace them if necessary. There is a vacuum cannister fed by a non return valve to maintain vacuum that is used for the vacuum motors. The vacuum is routed to the rear of the EATC module where the vacuum is distributed to the two motors as full or partial to allow one or more doors to be opened at the same time.

If you start a thread in the Town Car forum then we can go through the diagnostics and fix whatever is not working. I will get all the procedures that you need.

I guess it depends on what the sound of bubbling is like and how one eliminates the possibility of an actuator problem from the possibilities.

Sounds like the intake air door (recirc door) actuator which is located farther to the right than the passenger blend door actuator which is attached to right side of center dash stack. The recirc door actuator is behind the suspension module which is behind the glove box. If the recirc door actuator is a problem then I would expect it to show up on the EATC self test. Did you run that recently?

I dont understand what is happening

.I am lost and will abandon this forum unless someone can tell me why there is "lincolnforums.com/forums" and there is "lincolnowners.com/forums"
and they seem to be the same thing but dont work the same. I cannot find ythreads I know are there and I get warnings like,

Which dont give the correct information since I try reloading the page and STILL GET THE SAME warning.

I dont have time to spent hours everyday trying to get past all this crap. It doesnt work!!!!

I'm trying to help a friend change the driver's side blend door actuator on his 2007 Town Car using the instructions you've posted here. I removed the two bolts from the bottom of the LCM, and it slides around, but I can't seem to get it wiggled out from under the dash. It appears as if two large bolts coming down from the adjustable pedals may be interfering. What am I missing? Any tips for getting it out of the way? Thanks.

The 1992 and up models of the Town Car use an electronically controlled actuator (motor and sensor) to position the blend door which allows a varying amount of heated air into the HVAC air flow. Most models, except for the 1998 model and the 2003 and up models require the dash to be removed for access to the blend door. The blend door actuator problem usually shows up as a failure to vary the HVAC air temperature even though both heater hoses are hot. A failed actuator can make a tapping or ticking noise. The problem can be confirmed through the EATC self test (usually code 24 or 25) which can be found in another thread in this tech forum.

Attached is the procedure for the 1998 model to remove the passenger air bag and replace either the recirc actuator (for fresh air or cabin air input to the HVAC) or the blend door actuator. The negative terminal on the battery must be removed for at least a minute (Ford's recommendation) to allow the capacitors in the supplemental restraints system to discharge. Since such a discharge would be catastrophic it may be prudent to leave the battery disconnected for 5 minutes or more.

It should be noted that the blend door itself may have failed which is usually noted as a missing or broken actuator drive axle coming up from the plenum. In this case the plenum will need to be replaced, requiring the dash to be removed.

I have a 98 towncar, with a working AC pump but my problem is the blend door, the elctronic actuator is good so I think i need to replace what is called the "plenum" my question is the plenum also called the "evaporator housing" ?

It wont let me see click on the file for the airbag removal. I have a 98 town car that I need to replace the blend door for.
 
Hello Town. I have the same car as you 2007 Town car, color and everything. when I bought the car was no heat on the floor driver side. I change two BDA behind the radio, dash off etc. then change the center passanger side BDA. My problem is that now I have a lot of heat on my foot = asselerator I have to put the temperature on 20 or 19 in the winter when the heat is to much on my foot. how can I fix this, so the temperature is constant at 22 centigrates - right now is to hot. Do I have to replase another BDA. so is the confortable mix of cold and hot air.

Update on noise under dash

I have finally gotten my 2007 Town Car to heat and cool properly. All this was done under warranty so it took time to teach the technicians their job. I wasnt about to do it myself when I had paid for a warranty....LOL

Two years ago it started with the HVAC blowing HOT on the passenger side in 100 degree weather and the AC running. I took it into the dealer to b e fixed. They replaced the right hand actuator and gave it back to me working....or so I thought....until the first cold day of winter when it was blowing cold even when the outside temp was 30 degrees and the heater full on. I took it in again a year later and after again replacing the right side actuator it was given back to me working........or so I thought.....until the next hot day, and it was back to the initial condition, blowing HOT with the AC running.

After two years and three trips to the dealer they found the problem, As the old joke states, "you been cutting on the wrong man". Turns out it was the drivers side actuator that was causing the passenger side malfunction. Its is now fixed.....and magically, the rumbling under the dash after the key was turned off, has also disappeared!!!!
 
Hey guys, I got an 06 town car and it seems like the drivers side actuator took a dump but when I search for a replacement I find a whole bunch.

Do you guys have the different part numbers for the actuators for the different sides?

I think that might help some people out (mainly me lol).

2007 Lincoln Town Car Blend Door Actuator Replac. led to No Windows/Sunroof/Radio/Shift from Park

HELP!
I followed the instructions provided in this forum to replace the blend door actuator on the drivers side.
When reconnecting the Lighting Control Module (LCM) plugs, there were some sparks during the last small square plug insertion (near steering column) and the car alarm, horn, etc. started going off. Grabbed keys and hit buttons attempting to shut off alarm - finally it shut off. Do not remember if keys were in the ignition (possible) while reinstalling LCM.
Then replaced the passenger blend door actuator - no issues.
Now power windows, moon roof, mirrors, radio don't work and it will not shift out of park (but will start).
Checked fuses and only finding was the blown 20A cigar lighter/OBDII fuse. Replaced. I believe this was a pre-existing problem.
Checked circuit breaker CB602 (Delayed accessory relay for windows, moon roof, audio and navigation system) - still have continuity.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Update:
AFTER DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY - Removed Lighting Control Module - plugs came off much more easily than when I originally replaced the blend door actuator and had the sparking problem described. After a lot of research - decided to re-install and take to dealer for diagnostics. Re-installed and everything works just fine (radio, window, moon roof etc.)!
Why? - I suspect the plugs just were not installed correctly (tight).
Lessons learned - #1 ALWAYS, no matter if included in the instructions, remove the battery ground when working on ANY electronics!
I suspect my next step is to pull the ETAC and do the reset procedure.
At least now the windows, etc. work and I don't have to worry about the weather.
Will update further as I identify/resolve problems.
 
Hi. I have no issues with my 1991 Town Car, but for future reference, do the 1990-91 models have these "blend door" issues as well?

My 1995 was ok while I owned it, but I think it had been replaced before I bought it.
 
If your car has the automatic temperature control like the 1992 model then it has the blend door actuator that could fail.
