Performing several improvements and upgrades to the stock radio. (Audiophile) First I noticed rattles coming from the rear shelf. Turns out my rear seat center shoulder harness retractor/lock mechanism had a serious rattle. (Located next to the subwoofer!) I got some sound deadening material like dynamat and applied to the retractor and most of the rear shelf being careful not to affect the function of the retractor/lock mechanism.
Then replaced the factory speakers on the rear shelf with some Polks db571s.
I plan to do the front speakers as well. Also possibly upgrade the subwoofer speaker, using the existing housing and amplifier.
I am searching for an ipod interface to connect to the factory Radio with 6 Disc CD changer inside. I really desire to keep the stock appearance. Found a few options after searching the internet extensively. If anyone else has any experience here your input would be appreciated. PIE makes a FRD03-POD/S unit I am trying this next week, this connects as a SAT Radio. Also will be hooking up a blue tooth IHF-1000 from Motorola I have laying around, and will attempt to use the factory radio as an interface point. If successful I will post a how to on this. I have found very limited information on this audio system and possible upgrades. Using information about other Ford Radios I have found.
I really love the classic ride of the Town Car but I want to upgrade the sound, and have a hands free phone. I mounted a Garmin to the dash with a custom mount, and hid the power wire behind the dash.
