I have a 2010 Lincoln Town Car with 21000 miles. The problems just started today with the trunk lid. At first, I heard a 'clicking' noise right after I used the power assist to close the trunk. But, it closed fine this time. Later on, the power assist closed the lid, but the lid wouldn't close all the way down. Now, nothing is working. Checked fuses, each one is fine. It seems to me that I have two seperate problems...am I correct? If so, what now???

The lower loop gets loose then you have trouble closing trunk. Tighten lower loop and you should be good to go.

What do you mean by tighten the lower loop? I've checked everything mechanically related to my problem, and nothing is loose. Let restate my issue: I had a discussion going on this subject, but it disappeared. To begin, I have a 2010 Lincoln Town Car with 21000 miles and the trunk lid assist stopped working a few weeks back. I did hear a clicking noise a few times when I hit the button on the key fob, but it closed. First, the lid would close, but not secure itself. It went down and just 'bounced up' when it was in the closed position. At this time, I tied it closed because I was on the road. Once I got home, it still was doing the 'bounce thing' when I tried to close the trunk lid.

Then, I checked both fuses (dash panel and engine compartment.) Both fuses are fine. Then, I disconnected the battery, thinking maybe something may reset itself. Well, I was wrong there, because ever since I reconnected the battery, nothing happens at all.

If the answer is replacing the power assist motor, I still have a question...Are there two SEPARATE motors that perform the closing of the trunk lid? I know of the one that sits up on the 'shelf' in the trunk itself and does the majority of the opening & closing. But, is there another that does the last 1" or so of the closing of the trunk lid?

Lid Latch

Your problem seems to be similar to one I had with my 2007 Town Car; the lid popping back up after attempting to close. I discovered that the lid latch had a cover on it that was cracked and that caused it to be somewhat loose. I removed the latch plastic cover and problem solved. Take a look at this illustration from 2007 service manual. Item 4 is the culprit. Excuse the picture upside down but had to lay the thick manual over the scanner.

Thanks. I have done what you suggested, but as I stated, the 'bouncing back' occurred before everything stopped working. My problem now is figuring out why nothing is working with the trunk lid assist.
Also, I found the diagram you sent to me in my 2010 Workshop manual (501-14-68.) Does anyone know where I can find information about the Trunk Lid Assist motor in this manual? And, I can't find the stinking fuse diagrams in this manual either.

Please assist me. This is driving me crazy!

I have replaced the motor that does the last bit of closing and nothing has changed, thus nothing works as related to the power assist for the trunk lid. I have seen that there is a motor on the 'shelf' of the trunk (left side). I suspect this motor is responsible fr most of the opening and closing of the trunk lid. What now? Replace that motor too?

Serious help needed please with my 2010 lincoln town car

Plz Help!!! So far, I've changed the PULL DOWN MOTOR - FORD PART #(6W1Z-14B529-A) and the CONTROL MODULE - FORD PART #(9W1Z-14B169-A). Still, no positive results. Nothing at all happens with the Trunk Lid Assist process. I've spent $250+ on both the Pull Down Motor and the Control Module. The last mechanical part in this process is the MOTOR & DRIVE - FORD PART #(3W1Z-14B529-AA), and this costs over $540.00.

ISN'T THERE ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP ME FIX THIS DARN THING?!

I have no experience with this type of problem, but have read of various problems occuring due to wiring becoming intermittent due to flexing by the trunk hinges.

Hopefully you can re-sell the probably-good motors that you removed to recoup some of your expense.

Good luck!

Thanks Dave...I'm sure the existing motors are good and am going to try to return them ASAP. I really need someone out there that is knowledgeable about these issues. I've looked around online quite a bit and can't locate the information myself.
My Town Car-2010 only has 22K miles, as it sat for quite awhile. It's a really nice car and I do hope someone out there responds soon because we are in winter now and it's only a matter of time before snow falls.
I can't afford to bring the car to the dealer because they want over 1K to diagnose/fix the issues. That's crazy!

ANYONE OUT THERE THAT CAN HELP ME FIX THE TRUNK ON MY 2010 LINCOLN Town Car???!!!:o

I've got a book of wiring diagrams for 2007 Town Car. If you think you can troubleshoot from them; I'll scan and post.

Thank you, but I my mechanical repair abilities stop at reading those diagrams. I do have a complete Shop Manual for the 2010 Lincoln Town Car, but really do not understand/comprehend the electrical diagrams.

I'm hoping a qualified 'mechanic' sees my posts and has gone through such a problem with the power assist function for a 2010. See, the equipment used in earlier Town Cars are different from my 2010, so every post I've been able to find talks about the earlier set up.

Thanks again...

Dan

i had the same problem

Dear,

I had the same problem exactly... On my Lincoln Town Car 2010, the solution for this problem is you have to replace the Trunk Latch and FOB button on the driver Door.

please ask if doubt.

thanks.

I wonder how dgd1967 fixed his problem. I have a similiar situation. After getting my Town Car out of storage, I left the door open and ran down an almost dead battery. No problem, I thought I'll just jump start it. When I opened the trunk, and closed it with the remote to get the jumper cables....the trunk latch kept trying to pull down - but then gave up. I got the car started, and had the same result...it just pulled down but let go with the trunk lid staying an inch open. I got home and removed the battery for charging. When I replaced the battery - nothing electrical to do with the trunk will work. The fuses are all good...but the trunk is still an inch from being closed. The service manual shows a DCM and LTM, but I couldn't find the LTM. The dealer told me that they are the same unit and they never go bad. I don't believe the dealer because wiring diagrams show the LTM connectors somewhere in the trunk area. Does anyone have experience fixing this problem? It seems unlikely that both motor will go bad at the same time and logical that the control circuit is the problem.

Welcome to the Forum.

Since the trunk lid was open when your battery lost power, it is likely the trunk lid motor needs to be re-initialized. You disconnect the battery, close the trunk and re-connect the battery. Then operate one of the trunk opening controls (door switch button, remote fob or the keypad) to open and then close the trunk. Trunk operation should return to proper operation. Attached is the procedure to do this.

Good luck.

I tried that - but - I can't get the lid to pull down...it latches, but stays about 1" open - so the car still thinks it has an open trunk (the dash display confirms this with an open trunk indication)! And so - when trying this "re-initialization" it can't begin with a closed trunk.

Can you hear the pull down motor run? Does the trunk move down at all?

Can you hear the pull down motor run? Does the trunk move down at all?

The trunk lid control module looks for the lid latch to close before energising the pull down motor. So before you hear the pull down motor operate you should hear the latch click. You can operate the latch with your key to open the latch. You can test for the latch closing by pressing a round screwdriver blade up into the latch mechanism between the two supports to trigger the latch to close, it is quite the snap. You may need to lubricate the latch mechanism to free it up if it does not move freely.

Good luck.

town2010car, how did u fix your problem. i am having the exact same problem on my 2010 towncar. please reply, thanks, ricky

Welcome to the Forum.

Unfortunately Town2010car joined on 23 March 2018 and last visited on 24 March 2018. So s/he never updated us with a resolution, somewhat typical I'm sorry to say.

Did you try manually closing the latch with a screwdriver blade? Sometimes it is best to start a new thread with your symptoms and see what happens. It can get confusing when a number of seemingly similar problems are documented in one thread.

Good luck.

thanks town, i don't have time now but i will post info on my problem tonite or tomorrow. thanks again, cal
