Just noticed updating maps is now only one time for over $100, with the 5 year plan for $199 gone!
Wondering what Continental owners are using, or are you updating anyway?
Hi lincolnewbe. According to the particular circumstances, I will use either the SYNC 3 built-in NAV system, or one of the NAV apps on my phone (Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze etc.) on the SYNC screen via USB cable.
In my opinion, there is really no huge need to bear the expense of updating the in-car NAV system every year.
I used the two free updates on my 2018 in the first two years of ownership. Then I did not update the SYNC 3 NAV again until earlier this month.
For shorter trips where I don’t feel like connecting my phone, I will use the SYNC NAV. On longer trips, where I am more unfamiliar with the roads and may run into construction and other newer road changes, I will use the phone apps, since they will be far more up to date on construction and other road changes anyway.
So you can update the SYNC 3 NAV maps every year if you wish.
Or do like me and update the SYNC 3 maps every few years.
Or do as others may/will recommend, and not even bother paying for the SYNC 3 NAV updates at all, and just use the available NAV phone apps. And that is certainly another valid opinion.
Hope I wrote the above in an understandable manner, and good luck.
