I bought a 1985 Town Car in July and love it. However, the rubber around the windows, especially the drivers side, is all dried out. As a result, I hear the roar of wind in my left ear as I'm driving at highway speeds. This is disappointing since I hoped for a quiet ride.

Does anyone know a source for replacement window rubber? I've tried my regular mechanic as well as a local trim shop, and neither can find any source. I've searched online for anything that will work, but have not come up with anything. It's GOT to exist. Somewhere.

Any ideas?

Hi 1985. My best recommendation would be to take a look beginning here: 1985 Lincoln Town Car weatherstrips - Google Search

You may need to call more than a few companies, but maybe you will get lucky.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

I have tried searching this way, but I haven't found anything specific to the car or window.

Hi 1985. Unless another member here gives you a direct source, all I can advise would be to call the various companies going 2-3 pages into those links. Not everything will be obviously listed. If you have already done that, hopefully another member will have some better leads.

Let us know how you make out and good luck.

Okay, thank you. I can check them out this weekend.

I had the same problem with my 1988 Town Car and found some substitutes for WINDOW FELTS. RockAuto carries UNIVERSAL part numbers: FAIRCHILD 13748 and FAIRCHILD 06368.

FAIRCHILD 13748 is a thicker and deeper channel that fits the outside rim of the door window track on both pieces of glass. NOT the median post, or whatever you call it. That is smaller.

The big glass is about 3/16 thick, while the quarter glass is about 1/4 thick. This is what I learned and I will explain my error.

FAIRCHILD 06368 is smaller and fits in the median post on the side of the big glass only. I found that when I tried to install it in the quarter glass channel, the glass was never going to fit in the groove. Fortunately, the quarter glass felt seal was in good enough shape to just take it out, clean it, and put it back in for now. I will continue looking for new rubber that fits the quarter glass better.

Its all assembled now and works like new. no more glass rattling against the door or sound of wind rushing by. The only cosmetic difference is the new rubber doesn't lay out on the metal tracks like the old stuff did. It's kind of hard to explain in text. Very minor, only a slight difference in appearance and I'm the only one that will ever notice. I hope this helps. If you found a closer to factory replacement let me know.

Thank you for the info. I am definitely checking this out.

AgentOrange: I also have a 1988 Lincoln Town Car and have the same problem with the window glass run. I have attached two pictures showing said problem. Please review & see if mine is the same problem as yours. Verify the part number that you used.
