Trying to get a sense of how many have jumped on an order to date. I know it’s early but I succumbed to temptation on Wednesday. Silver Ingot with smoked trifle interior Reserve 2 hybrid!
Tim.

The one I ordered will be coming to Canada.

Still made in China this time, correct? Too bad, was once MADE in Canada....we're circling the drain!
Definitely. We need to bring manufacturing back to North America! Or at least not in China. Anywhere elsewhere in Asia would be better, but apparently Lincoln sells 2 of every 4 Nautilus cars in China, so it's not too surprising they would manufacture them there.

Gee, and I thought Ford was an American company making cars for Americans (and our Canadian friends).

So comparing my 2021 Nautilus (see my signature line for details), the sticker price for it was $56,380 for the vehicle plus options (no destination or other fees). For a similarly equipped 2024 Nautilus built in China, the cost for the base vehicle plus options is $60,875, a difference of $4,495 (again excluding transport and other fees).

I realize costs have gone up, but I'm wondering how much of that increase represents an additional tariff on cars made in China and imported into North America?

Anybody know if the 2024 Nautilus will be subject to an import tariff? 🤔

If your concern is about the increase in the price due to manufacturing in China etc., you would be better off comparing the 2024 price to a 2023.
The MRSP difference in price between my 2020 Aviator and the equivalent 2023 I ordered is $7,160. I'm sure that the 2023 Nautilus is also likely more than what you paid for the 2021.

OK, good point. If I do that, the 2023 price is $58835, a difference compared to the 2024 model of $2040. Not as big of a difference.

However, my question remains: Is this car, that is manufactured in China, subject to an import tariff? That's my concern, not the price per se.

You are not importing the vehicle, Lincoln is. Therefore, the tariff, if any, would be on Lincoln, not you. The tariff, again if any, would be reflected in the purchase agreement.

Yes, I know and thank you for that Captain Obvious! ;)

Of course any import tariff will be charged to Lincoln (which will in turn, be charged to the customer). I thought that went without saying, but I guess not....

Let me rephrase my question again: Will the US Government subject Lincoln to an import tariff on the 2024 Nautilus that is made in and imported from China?

I knew exactly what you meant and it was a pretty clear question. I was wondering the same thing. There's an article here that says:

It makes the first time in Ford’s history that Lincoln will manufacture a vehicle in China and send it to the U.S. to be sold. The announcement has experts calling for President Joe Biden, and Congress, to increase U.S. tariffs on vehicles made in China.

Currently, those tariffs sit at about 25 percent. Industry experts said the Ford announcement shows higher U.S. tariffs are necessary to protect American auto workers and domestic industry from being forced to compete against subsidized, China-made vehicles.

The tariff is pretty steep at 25%. Seems pretty dumb of Ford to import from China unless they've conceded the market here.

Keep in mind that raising tariffs on imported vehicles will increase the cost to the consumer. It likely won't do much in the way of affecting the exporter. It appears to be a business decision according to the article.

Really? You mean Lincoln isn't just going to absorb a 25% tariff? They're going to make the consumer pay for it?? How dare they!

That's why its a bad decision by Ford. They'll sell less vehicles in North America as the prices rise out of proportion. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Kia, Hyundai, others, all build SUVs in the USA to avoid the tariffs in order to be competitive. Plus, they provide jobs to Americans which is why there is such a thing as a tariff in the first place. But Ford apparently could give a damn.

It may be that Ford/Lincoln don't care much about this particular vehicle, given that I read that about 70% of them are sold in China. Looking at it that way, it may make sense to build the vehicle there.

Are you talking about cars in general, or the 2024 Nautilus in particular? If the latter, you are SOL…

For me it'd be more than just cars......If it's not available from the US, I go out of my way to find other countries, if possible, for ANY product. Unfortunately, sometimes China is the only source.

If you want a 2024 Lincoln Nautilus, your statement is true and correct.
