Webasto Charging Cable Issues. For GT owners

I have a 22 Aviator and 22 Corsair GT. I am using the supplied Webasto -made charging cables that Lincoln gave me when I purchased the cars to plug into my house of which I had an electrician install 2-240v outlets from my circuit panel in my garage late last year. The 240v adapter part of the plug from the cable keeps failing after several months. I have had Webasto send me new ones each time. Webasto even said to change the receptacle to an industrial-strength receptacle which another electrician did in January.

Has anyone else had the 240v adapters keep failing after a few months? I don't know what else to do besides keep calling Webasto. I have followed all their recommendations. I don't want to have to pay electricians to come out to my house every time. Thank you.

I've been charging daily with 240V since Feb 3 (so 4 months now) with no cable failures, but I never unplug or replug the cable at the wall. I also bought an aftermarket charging cable from Webasto (seemingly identical to the Lincoln cable except for the color of the end that plugs into the car) and have used that for about the last 2+ months. Is your adapter part of the plug failing mechanically or electrically? What size circuit breaker are you using? I had an old 240V outlet in my garage with the wrong type of receptacle. My electrician changed the pre-exisiting circuit breaker from 40A to 30A breaker when he installed a new 240V receptacle.

I just posted a similar situation. I'll have to check my other adapter. I just said "maybe it got hot"... I'll update later.

This issue just arose for me. Starting getting the red blinking light when I plugged in the Lincoln supplied cable to the brand new wall outlet. Electricians just came by and checked all the wiring and confirmed that the outlet itself is fine.

Does Lincoln replace the cable as part of warranty? Should I just go ahead and order the Webasco replacement?

Update: took off the 240V adapter and plugged the cable into a regular outlet, and the solid blue light came on. Guess I'll charge slowly for awhile, and call Webasto to see if they can send a replacement adapter.

Do we have an idea how long the adapters last before failure? I charge regularly at 240 and do not plug/unplug from the outlet. The device gets very hot during charging, and is always warm even when disconnected from the car. The 240 adapter itself does not seem to get hot, but may get damaged by transfer. Have been charging for a month and a half.

Quick update. I purchased my 22 Corsair in January. Late February I ordered the 240 without an adapter, so the plug didnt fit. In March, I got the new plug and had the new line put in. In May the original adapter went bad. I now added the aftermarket one. I will surely reach out to Webasto about refunding the ENTIRE cord purchase. I'd rather get a chargepoint that is ONE PIECE, if possible. I've been fast charging daily unless Im out of town. Its the joy of not burning regular gas that's great to me.

I already paid to have the 240V installed and again to have the electrician come back to tell me his outlet was working perfectly well. I don't want to pay them AGAIN to upgrade the outlet they just installed three months ago.

I've had the new adapter for two weeks, we'll see how long it lasts.

What industrial strength receptacle? I simply had a line put in from my sub-breaker box with an outlet drilled through the outside wall by an electrician.

My challenge is the adapter itself... The one from the dealer says mfg date 46/20 Part number 28868-001 and died in 3-4 months. The second cord i bought to KEEP with me, i got in February with mfg date 36/18 Part number 22650-001 Rev. 5. Its still working fine, but I'm thinking of August and September. Maybe the first one from the dealer was a bad batch. it happens.

I couldnt use the 240v cord because it doesnt fit inside the weatherproofing case to keep it dry.

Quick update. Webasto sent me a new adapter... but ODDLY, its not a Webasto branded one. Its AeroVironment. I too was given the "you need a better plate", but if that's the case, why isnt the new one dead yet? lol. Let's see. Im totally okay with that first one simply being a BAD BATCH lol. If this one from the spare cord I purchased goes out, then I know more.

My second Webasto 240V adapter just failed after one month of use. Pretty soon I'm going to have a pile of these things in the garage. I refuse to install the "industrial grade" outlet after paying so much to have the regular one installed - Webasto should have specified "industrial grade" in their installation guide if it was necessary.

Hopefully they send they AeroVironment instead of their own crap!

What do you mean by "industrial grade"? Are they assuming that someone has access to inferior grade outlets? I'd assume all are made in China, like most everything else is.

LinkedMe, when you contact Webasto for the adapter replacement, they ask for a photograph of your electrical outlet, and then respond with an almost-condescending email that the outlet MUST be a "Leviton 5461-A 20 Amp, 250 Volt, Industrial Heavy Duty Grade" with a "rear saddle type clamp connection." They include a link to the Home Depot website. Residential grade or commercial grade are not acceptable, apparently.

In anticipation of one day, maybe , getting my '22 Corsair GT delivered, I had an electrician (2-3 months ago) install my dedicated line with a 50-amp circuit. I have no idea if its a "Leviton 5461-A 20 Amp, 250 Volt, Industrial Heavy Duty Grade" with a "rear saddle type clamp connection."?????

The electrician would be installing the proper plate. It may not be Leviton. I had an electrician install a 240volt line and plate so I could plug in my 3rd party car charger by ChargePoint. I have been very pleased with the ChargePoint Home unit with a super thick cable that never gets hot. I only use the Lincoln supplied charger for when I am on the road or visiting friends.

I too plan on a Chargepoint Flex once my ride is here and only use the Lincoln cord for travel/emergencies etc. I had done some research on chargers as well as saw a prior recommendation from you about the Chargepoint unit. Thanks to you and everyone else out there providing us newbies your insights.
