A few comments. I read recently that Alphabet has merged the Google Maps and Waze teams. So, I would expect Google Maps to get more of the Waze features. Second, after the Infotainment System update 24B09B, I found that when using the native Waze app (the one available from the Play store screen and not the one with
Apple CarPlay), when using Waze for navigation to a destination, there now appears a small "next turn info box" on the upper Panorama display. It isn't really that useful as it is just a duplicate of the next turn info box on the 11" screen. This will not appear when using Waze with
CarPlay.
What I normally do on a trip is first enter a destination in Google Maps. Once it has computed the route and is running, then I open the native Waze app on the 11" screen. The Google Map does not then disappear on the upper screen. That way you get live map updates with the Google Maps display, and you can still receive alerts and interact with Waze on the 11" screen. But once you use the Waze app for navigating to a destination, the Google Map on the upper screen disappears.
In all cases, I find all the 24 Navigator map options inferior to the standard Sirius Travelink and Inrix maps my previous Lincoln MKXs and Nautilus (Sync 1, 2 & 3) had. Those maps always clearly identified the road you were on and city you were in at every moment, and the maps clearly showed colors (green and red) for traffic flow whether you were navigating to a direction or not. Miles to destination and ETA were clearly shown. You could also enter multiple stops/waypoints for a long multiday trip and easily rearrange and edit the order. All this service was free for 5 years. Multiple times I would be alerted to a recommended re-routing and how much time it would save. Yes, maps had to be updated manually via USB a few times a year but that never caused a problem as most new roads and construction take years to complete. And if I wanted, Waze was an available app that ran in Sync in lieu of the built-in navigation maps. In my opinion, all this new technology was as step backwards.
