Hi all. Last week I noticed a lot of saturation in the carpet behind my driver's seat. The front is not wet but there is some discoloration and moisture in the carpet behind the gas pedal. I had a leak before that flooded my rear passenger side, but I already fixed that by cleaning out the drain on the passenger side of the windshield reservoir.
I tried finding info on the driver side issue and I found a few possiblities:
1) a leak somewhere in the drivers side of the firewall or windshield reservoir. This seems to be the most likely culprit, however also the most difficult to identify/fix. My wiper motors are starting to go so I'm debating just having it fixed when I get those fixed, since it's a pain and I haven't found a clear procedure to fix a leak there.
2) the sunroof is leaking. The car is 23 years old, but the sunroof still works. The car has only 44k miles, so if it's leaking it's probably due to drying out rather than usage.
3) a door seal is leaking. While I did recently check my weather stripping, I haven't done a "hose test" yet to rule this one out. However, it doesn't seem as the likely culprit from what I researched.
4) a clogged drain plug under the car. Another thing I checked for a few months ago and seemed fine with the other leak. Also, for the amount of water I found, it seems that this alone wouldn't be the whole problem, especially with the discoloration by the pedal.
What I've ruled out:
1) coolant leak. My reservoir is still full and the fluid has no smell of coolant.
2) exhaust vapor. While I do have an exhaust leak that was not solved by a replacement of the gas cap, there are no gas or exhaust fumes in the car.
3) door drain. I checked them and they seem fine. I unclogged them all and sprayed them with fluid film a few months ago on top of that.
Conclusion, while I think it's the first culprit, a leak in the driver's side reservoir/firewall, I obviously am not sure. I would appreciate any input or insight, especially since there aren't many videos or threads pertaining to this specific problem on this specific model year. Everything I've found is either inconclusive or for the passenger side leaks. So if anyone has experience with drivers side leaks, I'd appreciate input! Thanks!
