Hi 7gthom2. There are too many variables to take blind recommendations from others who may have very different tire preferences than you.

Those variables include cost, ride quality, road noise, treadwear life, dry handling, wet handling, snow handling etc. etc.
You need to determine what is important to you.

In addition to the recommendations you will receive here, I would recommend you go to The Tire Rack and use their Tire Decision Guide to find a tire that fits your preferences. You can input your important priorities from the list above, and get a list of tires that suit your personal preferences.

I’m sure others will jump in to help, so let us know how you make out and good luck.

To me...tires and brakes are the most important service items on the car...and both are big investments so don't cheap out. Even the best tires and brakes are barely good enough. Years ago I used to sell tires and auto services.

My two go-to tire brands are Michelin and Cooper. I've found Cooper to be equivalent to Michelin in every respect other than possibly ride quality...that can depend on the specific tire line you're looking at.

Decide on which tire suits your needs and then look for the best overall price and service. Not all tire retailers will handle warranty issues the same so that has to be looked into as well.

Tire Rack is a great resource and I have used it in this particular case.

I have Michelin’s on my Boss 302 and love them.

On the Aviator the tires on it now are Michelin’s and the previous ones were the OEM Pirelli’s. Both had a 45k mile Warranty. Pirelli’s got 41k and Michelin’s 34K. PHEV’s are tire eaters.

Haven’t thought of Cooper’s. I will check them out.

Thanks.

Cooper Tires is now a subsidiary of Goodyear. Whether that’s a good thing remains to be seen. The last Coopers I purchased was before the sale to Goodyear. I would pay close attention to the sidewall ratings when comparing them. If Goodyear leaves Cooper alone to do their own thing thee should be no issues.

An aside…I wouldn’t recommend Michelin tires from Walmart. They’re the same quality but less tread depth so Walmart can buy them cheaper and sell them cheaper.

My Michelin’s were Sport Pilots from Discount Tire.

We liked the ride. Just not the low replacement mileage. On the Boss 302 that isn’t an issue. Just hold me on the road. 😎

Stay away from Goodyear! Another great tire is the Continental HIgh Performance A/S tire. Son has Michelin Cross Climate A/S that he really likes on their Subaru Ascent which is a similar sized vehicle to our Aviators. I always read TireRack information on tires I am considering. However, they aren't always the lowest priced option. Still, probably have purchased more tires from them than all my other sources in the last 40 years.

We have been very pleased with the original factory tires, so I purchased the OEM replacement Michelin Primacy tires, same PN that rolled down the assembly line. As of 6 months ago Tire Rack had them.

UPDATE... I should have clarified earlier that the Michelin Tires you buy aftermarket are highly likely to be a different tire than what came on the car. Tire Rack goes to the trouble of keeping a database of the OEM tire PNs that the manufacturers put on at the factory (specifically designed with Lincoln's NVH requirements in this case). They also inventory a good number of those as they did mine. If you wish to go this route - I posted the PN in another thread.

The ExtremeContact DWS06 has been mentioned several times on both this and the Explorer forum.

I have a set of 18" Michelin Pilot Sport 4 SUV summer tires on my Aviator. These were originally on a set of 18" rims on my 2020 Ford Explorer ST. I am trying to wear them out as I have a new set waiting. Unfortunately or fortunately, these tires now have over 30,000 miles on them and are still not at the wear bars. They ride great, handle even better than the 20" Michelins that came on the Explorer ST. Compared to the Goodyear 22" Eagle Comfort tires our Jet Package Aviator came with, they aren't even in the same universe!!!!!!!

I do think the 20" stock Michelins that come on most Reserves are good tires. I just like the handling that the Pilot summer tires provide since we only spend time in warm weather.

Some of you may have seen my prior posts talking about OEM (i.e. down the assembly line) tires. Last year I acquired a set, waiting for when my factory tires wore out. I just replaced them a few weeks ago at 55K miles before a 720 mile trip each way to/from North Carolina. As I was confident would be the case - we could tell absolutely no difference we had another set of tires on. The ride, noise (I should say lack thereof), wet and dry traction were identical from our perspective. We're very happy with the 255/55R20XL 110V MICHELIN PRIMACY A/S BW tires. Michelin part number 92446.
